Why Class Mom Author and overall #MomGoals Laurie Gelman is Glad She Didn't Take Kelly Ripa's Advice Sep 20, 2021
    Show notes

Today's guest on OTG is Laurie Gelman. If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because Laurie’s husband is the legendary TV producer Michael Gelman of Live with Kelly & Ryan. Little known fact, Laurie actually spent 25 years as a broadcaster here and in her native Canada before trying her hand at writing novels. We'll talk about her best-selling Class Mom and the hi-larious follow-ups in the series You’ve Been Volunteered and now Yoga Pant Nation. We'll also get the scoop on the advice Kelly Ripa gave Laurie that she didn't take and Laurie's description of the ideal mate for the very single Ryan Seacrest.

Listen in if: You need a nudge to chase your dreams, could use a few words of wisdom from a sometimes snarky mom boss who managed to raise two awesome daughters...and wouldn’t mind a little Kelly & Ryan inside scoop.

Season two, a BIG announcement, and the beauty of what remains with Steve Leder Sep 13, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to an all-new season of Off the Gram. Everything works better after you unplug it, including this podcast. We’re thrilled to be together again after a much-needed summer break.

Tune in to this episode for a big show shake-up and then and incredible interview with Rabbi Steve Leder the author of The Beauty of What Remains. As the head of one of the world’s largest synagogues, and a rabbi who has presided at more than a thousand funerals, Steve Leder thought he knew how to cope with death—until his father died. It was then that Steve Leder the Rabbi became Steve Leder the son; facing his own experience of love, regret, and pain in a more personal and intimate way than ever before. What he discovered was life changing: in death we do not lose—we actually gain more than we ever imagined. Listen to this show if: You’ve lost someone you love and are grieving or want to help a friend who’s hurting. And keep the tissues handy!

    Summer Best-Of-Series: Michele Promaulayko Aug 30, 2021
    Show notes

As I'm coming off a sugar-filled summer (lots of wine! all the ice cream!) and feeling like I need a reset, I'll be busting out @michprom book Sugar Free 3 and relistening to this episode. On the show we talk about her revolutionary plan which is based on the latest research and science. It's not a diet. It's not a detox. It's not a cleanse. It’s a genius three-week program to reset your entire approach to food and eating for improved wellness, more energy, sounder sleep, better-looking skin, and healthy weight loss—without counting calories. Who doesn't need that after hot girl summer?!

I've known the fellow Jersey girl for nearly 30 years and she is aging in reverse. If getting "sugar smart" has that Peter Pan effect, sign me up! Michele has spent the last decade at the forefront of the newest research about how sugar and artificial sweeteners affect your mind and body. (She was the award-winning editor-in-chief of Women's Health and Cosmo and now the Editorial-Director-at-Large for @thewell.) What she discovered was that added sweeteners are at the center of every major and minor health crisis, from the ones you'd guess—like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes—to the ones that might surprise you, like acne, bad moods, digestion, and sleep loss. Listen in to explore why sugar makes you gain weight (and get sick), where it’s lurking, and how to live happier and healthier without it.

Heidi’s last pick for our summer-best-of-series lights a fire in everyone who listens to: MAKE CHANGE. Actor and Activist Michelle Hurd is committed to giving a voice to inequality and injustices. This change maker does it day in and day out, and will inspire you to do the same.

A powerhouse of a woman: leading the charge of Time’s Up for SAG-AFTRA, on the SAG-AFTRA board, a leader who protects members of her union, everyone she knows, and especially those who are most vulnerable; she oozes goodness out of every pore.

Michelle is exactly the inspiration you are seeking. Tune in to be MOVED. Then go make CHANGE!

    Summer Best-Of-Series: Dan Harris Aug 09, 2021
    Show notes

Ironically for our co-host Jamie - like many - coming out of lockdown and going back into "reality" is proving just as hard as the initial quarantine time, from a mental standpoint! Jamie knows many people can relate, so she chose the OTG interview with ABC News legend, Dan Harris, for the next in our summer "best of" series.

Why? Well, Harris is famous for many things, but perhaps most of all for having a panic attack on live television while co-hosting on Good Morning America several years back... it was then that Dan knew he had to change something in his life. Despite his self-professed “allergy to all things touchy-feely and New Age-y,” he realized he had to open his mind to new options. This realization led him to discover the science-backed secret to feeling 10% happier: MEDITATION.

The lessons he learned led him to create a best-selling book and a podcast (his first guest was the Dalai Lama, no big deal!), all called "10% Happier," and we are grateful to bring his episode back to the surface to help us re-enter the world as happy, healthy, & sane as possible.

Summer Best-Of-Series: Dr. Darria Long Gillespie Aug 02, 2021
    Show notes

When Meaghan, her 3 kids, husband and 71-year-old mom tested positive for COVID-19 back in February, Dr. Darria Long was Team Murphy’s first call. The Harvard + Yale-trained ER doctor had already been on OTG to talk the co-hosts through all things COVID-19 and now she would play a vital role in the family’s healing, providing the ultimate recovery toolkit. Once she was well, Meaghan was desperate to share Dr. Darria’s expert advice with the OTG community. Listen in for everything you need to know about battling the virus especially as numbers begin to creep up again and here’s an episode cheat sheet:

If your COVID test comes back positive, then for the next 14 days, do the following:

-Every 1 to 2 hours, stand up and walk around

-Every 1 to 2 hours, do breathing exercises (inhale deeply, then slowly exhale through pursed lips like you’re blowing out birthday candles)

-When you lay down, try laying down on your side or stomach, or at a minimum, laying at an elevated recline vs. flat

    -Take:

    -Vitamin C 500mg 2x daily

    -Vitamin D 2,000 IU daily

-Zinc 75mg once a day with food

    -Pepcid 20mg daily

-1 baby aspirin daily (unless doc has ever told you not to take aspirin)

    ISOLATION:

-Isolate yourself from others (including those living in the same house as you) for 10 days since onset of symptoms OR when your test was taken AND until symptoms are improving AND you don’t need medications for fever for 72 hours

    Summer Best-Of-Series: Norma Kamali Jul 19, 2021
    Show notes

One of our first OTG guests way back in Jan of 2020 is one of Christine’s idols, both in fashion and in life!

Norma Kamali is a fearless powerhouse who’s been in the fashion business for 53 years and is the ORIGINAL wellness influencer who sought out alternative wellness methods looong before it was #hashtag. Back in her fashion editor days, Christine worked with Norma featuring her uber-cool style creations in the mags and on TV including the sleeping bag coat, the start of casual sportswear; high heeled sneakers, and swimwear that every woman wanted to rock.

But what Christine most admires is Norma’s ability to reinvent herself with relevance and grace as she ages in this competitive industry. Norma talks with us about the fallacy of the “timeline” and the insane pressure in today’s culture to achieve “everything” by 30.... and what you should focus on instead.

    Tune in and get inspired!

Summer Best-Of Series: Carson Kressley Jul 12, 2021
    Show notes

Since Team OTG is on summer hiatus (pass the poolside mojito, please!), each co-hosts is taking a turn picking a weekly "best of" episode to re-release, and explain why that show sticks out as an all-time fave!

Jamie kicks us off, with her pick: an episode released in December 2020 with iconic guest, Carson Kressley. This episode still makes Jamie smile, because the topic was REINVENTION - and after bravely exiting a 20 year public relations career to pursue her passion for wellness (we're glad she did!), it's a topic that rings loudly to Jamie... and if anyone knows about reinventing themselves over and over (and over!), it's Carson!!

As an Emmy-Award winning TV personality who's gone from Queer Eye to Dancing with the Stars and everything in between(!), Carson has mastered the art of the refresh, and has done it with grace & charm. We're excited to resurface this fun interview to kick off our Summer Best-Of Series!!
