The Goose Chicks Podcast Hosts Leslie Mack & Chelsea Long - So Ready Mar 10, 2023

Show notes

This week on No Simple Road we are super stoked to have Leslie and Chelsea from The Goose Chicks Podcast as our guests. Leslie Mack is a long-time podcaster and jam-band aficionado. She previously produced & co-hosted Blackberry Jams presented by Ben & Jerry’s, an exploration of the intersections between the band Phish and Black Liberation. She brings a healthy obsession with Goose to the show as well as a genuine love for all the Goose Chicks out there. In her non-Goose obsessed life she is a Digital Strategist and Communications Director for The Frontline. Leslie hails from Flatbush Brooklyn and lives in Charlotte, NC.

Chelsea Long is a lover of live music and, with the discovery of Goose, new to the jam scene. She found Goose at the start of her spiritual awakening and has a deep spiritual connection to their lyrics and meditative jams.

Inspired by the Hungersite video series, Chelsea recently left her corporate job in nonprofit administration to start a creative art business making tie-dye clothing and accessories. She hopes to speak on the spiritual and creative connections between Goose’s music and fans.

We talk with the ladies about:

the unique time and place we are in right now as a musical community.
removing 'Gatekeeping' and the barrier to entry from the Jam Band scene.
Chelsea's experience coming into the scene during lockdown.
the concept behind The Goose Chicks Podcast.
creating safe spaces inside the shows and being free enough to have your own personal experience.
the deliberate progression of 'Torch Passing'
why Leslie loves to bring people to their first Goose show

... and so much more! Head over to www.goosechickspod.com for all the info on them!

Bob Bralove & Tom Constanten of Dose Hermanos: Leaving Us Stumpfounded Mar 03, 2023

Show notes

This week on No Simple Road we are extremely honored to have Bob Bralove and Tom Constanten of Dose Hermanos as our guests! Though both came to prominence associated with the Grateful Dead, Tom as keyboard player from 1968 to 1970, and Bob as an engineer, programmer, and occasional performer from 1987 to 1995, this music is Dead-like only in its wide-open, wholly improvisational exploration of a vast musical universe with only one rule: does the result, said Bralove, “feel like Dose?”

This talk takes us all over the map of the 100 Acre Wood! We talk about:

-Creating music that is completely free of structure with only the idea of an image or picture in mind.

-Why music is different for the perpetrator and the appreciator.

-How the two of them have developed as artists over the years.

-The way Bob received a 'transmission' from The Gyoto Monks.

-Each of their takes on why some folks find spirituality through music.

-Creating the new album 'Persistence Of Memory'.

-How it feels to still be working together all these year later...

..and so much more!

Object Heavy - Persistence Of The Groove Feb 17, 2023

Show notes

We are super excited to have Brian Swislow and Richard Love of 'Object Heavy' as our guests on No Simple Road this week. Object Heavy is Northern California’s hardest hitting Soul sensation. While based in Arcata, this cast of musical characters has made waves up and down the North Coast of California, the Pacific Northwest, and various parts of the United States. Object Heavy has also been voted best band in Humboldt, three out of the last 5 years, including 2022. Now Object Heavy has hit the studio and cooked up a new album, 'LOVE AND GRAVITY', produced by Kelly Finnigan (Monophonics), showing off their progressive yet soulful sound.

We get right to it in this conversation talking about creating the new album 'Love and Gravity' with Kelly Finnegan of the Monophonics producing for them, how Object Heavy started as a house band way back when in 2013, what made Mike pull up stakes in Texas and move himself up to Northern California to follow his dreams, how he discovered his vocal talents from singing in church back in the day, how a chance meeting and a ride changed all of their lives for the better forever, how grit, persistence, and patience pay off, what the Arcata and Humbolt music scene is like, Swiz's love of The Grateful Dead, and a whole lot more!

No Simple Road's Weekly Rewind - Vol. 17 Feb 13, 2023

Show notes

This Weekly Rewind is done in collaboration with The Edible Beats!

Catch up with the No Simple Road crew as they discuss everything from the music scene, family life, show recaps & reviews, spirituality, psychedelics, and everything in-between!

This week's rewind begins with a conversation regarding The Big Game's Half-Time Show and what we think of the state of current mainstream entertainment.

Somehow, we end up talking about the current state of affairs regarding psychedelics. What each of us thinks of the decriminalization and legalization for clinical use and how this can be both a good and a bad thing at the same time. Can you put chaos in a box? IS the spirit of the medicine affected by us trying to make it a treatment? We try and get to the root of these questions and more.

Show notes

This week on No Simple Road we are super excited to have Adam and Ian from One Time Weekend as our guests on the show.

“We Groove - You Move” is the mantra of One Time Weekend - the innovative shred-funk Connecticut quartet bringing driving grooves with a melodic and progressive edge to the universe. We talk with Adam and Ian about creating the new album 'Fire It Up', they're experience playing their first ever Peach Music Festival set last year, what the 'panda' means to the band and how the fans have caught on, the origins of 'One Time Weekend' and how the diverse array of musical influences have crafted they're unique sound, they way that playing aggressive music can serve as an emotional outlet, what they're experience has been like being brought into the jam band community, and much more!
