David Gebroe of the Discograffiti Podcast - Laying It On The Line Feb 16, 2024

Show notes

We are super excited to have David Gebroe, host of the Discograffiti Podcast, as our guest on No Simple Road this week.

Dave Gebroe has written, produced, and directed two feature films to date. The Homeboy, distributed worldwide by Urban Entertainment, marked his debut. His follow-up was the horror hit Zombie Honeymoon. After a successful festival run (Slamdance, Sitges, Hamptons, Torino, San Francisco International, and many others), Zombie Honeymoon was picked up for national distribution by Showtime, and internationally by Fabrication Films. It is enjoying a healthy life in over 45 countries, in addition to having experienced a successful North American theatrical release. In addition, Gebroe has served as manager to such indie music luminaries such as Jessica Pratt and La Sera, and has been a contributing music critic to such publications as the International Review of Music and LiveDaily over the years.

This conversation is a masterclass in what it means to lay it all on the line, give it your all, go all in, go balls to the wall. David's frenetic schedule of releasing content is nothing short of incredible and his passion for music is only matched by his humor and his wit.

We talk with him about creating the Discograffiti podcast, losing his co-host at a crucial moment, The Grateful Dead and why he thinks Brent was awful, keeping a pace to give folks a world to immerse themselves in, reasons his health has suffered at the hands of his podcast schedule, and a ton more!

Bobby Vega - Whatcha Got Feb 02, 2024

Show notes

We are so excited to have the legendary Bobby Vegas with us as our guest on No Simple Road this week!

Bobby began his professional career at age 15 with Bo Diddley, but he achieved wide attention at age 16 for his distinctive picked and muted bassline on Sly Stone’s “I Get High On You” (from Sly’s 1975 album High On You ). Since then he has contributed his soulful feel and incredibly dynamic playing to a long list of world-class artists including: Billy Preston, Booker T., Paul Butterfield, Joan Baez, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Santana , Tower of Power, Etta James, Zigaboo Modeliste, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Starship, Babatunde Olatunji, Kitaro, Ronnie Laws, Hubert Laws, Lee Oskar, Melvin Seals, Cold Blood, and Zero with Steve Kimock.

We had an absolute blast talking to this living legend about his new album 'Whatcha Got', what life was like 'back in the day', how he sees his musical career in hindsight, where he's headed now, and a whloe lot more!

Artist Spotlight: Banshee Tree's Michelle Pietrafitta & Yak Attack's Dave Dernovsek Jan 31, 2024

Show notes

We're back with another Artist's Spotlight featuring Michelle Pietrafitta of Banshee Tree and Dave Dernovsek of Yak Attack!

Portland's own Yak Attack combine technical chops, live looping, and vesatility to create a all of danceable sound far beyond the capabitlities of most three-piece bands!

Banshee Tree is a band that has a sound as eclectic as its own members, spanning the dimensions of music in a brave new way. The quartet’s style is unique in how it crosses the boundaries of rock, punk, swing, and Django jazz!

We sit down with Michelle and Dave to talk about the upcoming tour and find out how this whole thing materialized. One guest in the studio and another on zoom made for a ton of fun here at NSR headquarters and we know you're gonna enjoy being a fly on the wall during this heady and insightful conversation!

We've embarked on a 30 day journey into changing the way we feed our bodies and our minds and we take you through how the first week went for each of us, the struggles and high points, our 'why' for even doing something so hard in the first place, and a little backstory for each of us as to what we've learned thus far.

Charles Patti of My Self Wellness - Ketamine and Beyond Jan 26, 2024

Show notes

This is an important episode for the No Simple Road community. This week on the show we have Charles Patti of My Self Wellness on the show. My Self Wellness empowers you on your health & wellness journey by combining the healing benefits of ketamine with new lifestyle practices for a full mental reset.

It was not until Charles began to incorporate psychedelics in a therapeutic way that he began to see a transformation taking place within himself. There is a connection to healing trauma and re-wiring our nervous system. Psychedelics can be a useful tool when done in a safe set and setting, and incorporating integrative practices to assist you in the long term.

With this in mind, Charles set out to create a psychedelic medicine wellness center that differed from the others. With heart-centeredness first and foremost and working outward from a deep need to help people, My Self Wellness manifested!

We talk with Charles about:

His struggles with his weight, addiction to opiates, and how he overcame through a DMT journey.
How he knew he was the one that was supposed to start My Self Wellness.
The synchronous meeting of Dr. Ferber and how he came to be the center's head Psychiatrist.
How Ketamine is being used to help people overcome addictions, PTSD, anxiety, and other mental health issues.
The reason 'set and setting' are so important and how My Self Wellness differs from other Ketamine clinics.
Charles' mission to help raise the consciousness of the planet through helping people heal themselves one at a time.
His perspective on how the clinic managed to stay open even through the challenges faced in 2020.

... and so much more!
