What will we do with our time if robots are doing all of the menial tasks for us? Will you bow to your machine overlords?

No Simple Road's Weekly Rewind Vol. 66 Mar 11, 2024

Show notes

This week on the Weekly Rewind is all about the Family! We recap this weekend's festivities celebrating our Brother Jordan's 50th birthday, seeing World's Finest bring the groove to the party, and talk a little bit about some tools we can use to stay above the ebb and flow of our emotional rivers. Life is definitely a trip and we can use things like live music to remind us of where we should be setting our sights and maintaining our vibe.

Tyler Ramsey - The Force of Solitude Mar 08, 2024

Show notes

This week on No Simple Road we are stoked to have Tyler Ramsey as our guest on the show!

At the core of any great singer-songwriter lies this inherent trait of stage presence, one where an entire room, no matter the size, is pulled in by this lyrical tractor beam — all eyes, emotions and energies aimed in one direction at a single voice.

For Tyler Ramsey, it’s being able to honestly connect with the listener, whether it be a packed room amid a live show or just someone throwing on his melodies in their own time and space.

“Writing is simply a release for me,” Ramsey said. “It’s a way for me to process my own path through this life. Some of the time I get it right — my aim is always honesty in writing.”

Albeit a genuinely humble soul, don’t let Ramsey’s words fool you. When it comes to the modern-day singer-songwriter, Ramsey remains a bastion of musical talent and lyrical aptitude — a melodic voice-of-reason and safe haven amid a 21st century world seemingly gone mad. The former lead guitarist of Band of Horses, Ramsey has also released four acclaimed solo albums, including “For The Morning” in 2019.

We talk with Tyler about:

- Building a life in the woods including vuilding a cabin and recording studio.

-Craving solitude and using it as fuel for creativity.

-The Asheville music scene.

- Meeting Circles Around The SUn and Neal Casal in a guitar shop.

-How lyrics are a tool for sorting through moments in time.

- His new album New Lost Ages

... and a ton more.

SPUNJ - Taking It To The Streets Mar 01, 2024

Show notes

We couldn't be more stoked to have our brothers Spunj in the studio with us this week on No Simple Road!

Spunj is a high energy, multi-genre four-piece based out of Eugene, Oregon. Using their diverse musical backgrounds and tastes, Spunj believes in making their live shows not just a musical performance, but an experience. The band incorporates classic songwriting with sections of improvisation to seamlessly weave from genre to genre while keeping the energy high and always danceable. Since 2019, the band has toured the Pacific Northwest relentlessly growing from playing bars and college parties to playing established and respectable venues and festivals and opening for major jam acts such as Spafford, Eggy, Twiddle, Lespecial, Cycles, and Yak Attack.

We talk to the guys about getting ready for their first national tour, the difficulty in capturing the live sound in a studio, curling, long road trips, making music that sounds like it is from the heart, snacks, what separates Spunj from other bands, why doing things DIY has been the move so far, and a ton more!

The Sweet Lillies - Love Prevails Feb 23, 2024

Show notes

We are extremely excited to have The Sweet Lillies in the studio with us this week on No Simple Road!

The Sweet Lillies have incorporated all of their cumulative life-experiences into their music, their songwriting, and their artistry, crafting an uncommonly-beautiful style they have christened 'String Americana" - a nod to the band's all encompassing musical tastes and willingness to experiment with genres.

In the midst of one of the craziest storms in decades in the Pacific Northwest the Sweet Lillies were sweet enough to come to the NSR studio to get cozy with us and have a conversation around the life of the band, learning and coming to terms with the need to speak their minds musically with grace and love, the prevalence of magick surrounding our lives, WHat maks us come out of our selves to share our art with abandon, and a ton more!

This week on the No Simple Road Weekly Rewind our Conductor bares his soul about some recent struggles he's been facing and not talking about up until now. Sometimes we face things that seem to pile up, one after the other, and don't give us time to integrate. The most important thing to remember is that simply talking these things through and getting them out of our heads and into the air is the beginning of the healing journey.

This is a Family conversation and you're all welcome to a seat at our table.
