God the Father Disciplines His Children Oct 18, 2021

Show notes

Believers, how can we lovingly discipline our kids in a way that mirrors how God disciplines us? Hebrews 12 reminds us that God’s discipline legitimizes our sonship to Him. It’s for the purpose of bringing honor to God and making us more like Him. In this episode, Brody walks through the Fatherheart of God and why He disciplines us.

We are no longer slaves to our sin, but now sons and daughters of God. Discipline is meant to bring us into a deeper fellowship with Him.

Beyond the Flannelgraph | A Character Sketch of Peter Oct 11, 2021

Show notes

At the end of your life, will you be able to say that you kept the faith?

The Lord still uses Peter to boldly proclaim Christ—in spite of his failures. Peter wasn’t always the bold preacher who had so much confidence in Jesus. Peter was impulsive and emotional, just as imperfect as any of us.

His boldness was contrasted with fear and cowardice, but yet he became one of the greatest preachers in history. The Lord still used him.

No Sanity Stories | A Testimony of Addiction and Grace Oct 04, 2021

Show notes

In this episode, Brody sits down with Matt Milligan, a pastor who serves at New Harmony Church in Missouri. Matt shares about how the Lord saved him from a life of addiction. Now, Matt can identify with people he’s ministering to every day.

We are all hard-wired for idolatry. For someone who is truly a child of God, there is conviction in the midst of idolatry. God will bring disruption to your soul and won’t leave you alone in it. There is no hope without Christ.

Listen to Matt’s story of redemption and grace and see the power of the Gospel over addiction.

Beyond the Flannelgraph | Looking at Jesus' First Miracle Sep 27, 2021

Show notes

Are you trying to find peace and joy through what the world offers? Jesus is the only true source of joy and peace. He gives exceedingly more than we could ever ask for. In this episode, Brody walks through John 2, where Jesus performed the first miracle.

Jesus always acts according to the will of the Father. When Jesus turned water into wine, he gave the guests a bigger picture of who he was. Jesus is the true source of joy. This isn’t about the wine.

We serve a glorious and generous Savior. Life is always going to be hard, but life with Jesus always grows sweeter and better.

SWO22 Preview | The Gospel in The Life of David Sep 20, 2021

Show notes

The life of David teaches us what it looks like to walk humbly before the Lord. He failed miserably before God responded in repentance, submission, and worship. Brody walks through some key moments in David’s life and shares what we can learn from him. During SWO22 summer camp, we will focus on savage moments throughout David’s life.

During most of his life, we see the intensity of obedience and fidelity to God. David reflects the kindness and mercy of the Lord. This should motivate us to live as a person of passion for the glory of God.

Bonus Episode | An Exhortation to the SWO21 Staff Aug 02, 2021

Show notes

This episode is the second part of “A Warning To Those Who Profess Christ | Don’t Drift.” Both parts come from an exhortation that Brody issued to our summer staff.

We cannot face our enemies on our own. We are given the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. You will not walk away from a faith that you are not the Author of. The same love of Christ that saved you, will sustain you to the very end. The Christian walk is an ever-increasing climb. You are saved to be conformed from one degree of glory to another.

Brody wraps up season 2 with a sermon he preached to our summer staff where he encouraged them to remain in the faith. Don’t stop pursuing Christ. Be a man or woman of honor and integrity. Pursue the Lord.

No Sanity Stories | Trauma Ministry in a Refugee Camp pt. 2 Jul 26, 2021

Show notes

In this podcast, Kilby shares specific stories from women that she’s worked with at the safe house. Their stories are full of fear, trauma, and abuse. Kilby speaks of the power of presence in those moments. We’re called to weep with those who weep. Strive to be present in a way that brings peace and comfort to those who are hurting.

There is a type of freedom that comes from sharing your story. Kilby shares how they use stories from the Bible to point these women to the Lord as they are healing. In Christ alone, there is hope and purpose.

In the previous episode of NSR, Kilby explained what trauma healing looks like in the refugee camp she serves at in Africa.

No Sanity Stories | Trauma Ministry in a Refugee Camp Jul 19, 2021

Show notes

The Lord doesn’t waste anything. He uses the trauma and hardships of life to draw you closer to Himself. In this episode, Brody sits down with his daughter, Kilby Helms, to talk about the trauma healing ministry she serves at in Uganda. Kilby shares the importance of that work and what it practically looks like. Trauma healing is not fast, or clean, or easy. But however hard the work, it is worth it for the beauty of seeing women receive healing and hope in the Lord.
