Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Genesis 50:20 which says "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."
"We all have a past and sometimes they haunt us. If it's a traumatic childhood, a signifiant other that took your spirit, or an injury that may have been the reason all of your athletic dreams came to a halt.

The enemy will work extremely hard to steal your joy, your pride, your season - but always remember when he is intending to harm us, God is actually using it for good. He is using your season to save the many lives.

This is why sharing your testimonies and talking about your story is so important. You have no idea how your pain and your past can help someone."

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of 1 Peter 4:10 which say's "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."

"We've been granted unique qualities that form our strengths in the spirit. Just like any gift, we may not necessarily love the gifts we've been given. Take me for example, I have been given the give of administration. As much as it makes me happy to see things in order, I also get frustrated when others don't understand processes as easily as I do. Therefore I fight my nature to take on admin work. It makes me feel as though no one can help me because others won't understand how to do the work “correctly”.

This is a constant battle in which I have to remind myself that others have different strengths that come easy to them and not to me.

There are 4 different places in the bible that talks about the gifts of the spirit. Some of them over lap. Here they are:..."

Take Care of One Another Sep 02, 2020
    Show notes

Join me Alison Elizabeth as we read Luke 10:30-35 which is the story of the Good Samaritan.
"Today I wanted to continue the thought love must be sincere.

But I wanted us to read one of my favorite teachings from Jesus himself.

In life, it's easy to become numb to the pain our brothers and sisters experience every day. Let's once again blame this on the self-serving society we live in, but I think this parable and his teachings can still be applicable today. I love how He gives us three different examples of a kind of person you can be.

The Priest and the Levite: Both of these men, one with religious authority and the other a jewish man, payed no attention to the injured man on the side of the road. Neither of them showed this man any mercy. They walked by him and would have honestly left him there to die.

We read that and immediately know that was a wrong move on their part, but how many time do we walk right past someone in need of help. How many times do we dismiss people when they are trying to tell us something. How many times do we simply ignore those who are suffering. 2020 taught us there are voices that go unheard every single day. "

Cling to What is Good Sep 01, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read Romans 12:9-13 which says, "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual passion, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality."
"Don't get me wrong, opinions are healthy. God gave us free will so that we can exercise our rights to form our own opinions, but mainly so that we can willingly love and serve Him. He doesn't need to force us to love Him.

But, our love needs to be sincere. Meaning when someone states an opinion that pulls on your strings, remember to do as this verse says. Cling onto what's good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourself.

Meaning put up your cross and learn when it's okay to respectfully back out of a debate. Even when you think that you are right. Learn to apologize first. Learn to end the conversation where it has to end, even if it means you don't get to say the last word.

We have one goal here on earth. To love and serve our creator. We do that by loving others, sincerely. We do that by practicing this verse: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality."

May Our Works Spark Joy Aug 31, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 19:1. I pray today we all commit our works to the Glory of God.
"But it also reminds me that we all work with our hands. Some of us are creators and others of us work with people, and some of us children. Whatever you do, my prayer is that our work can proclaim the glory of God.

May people see Him in us.

May they look what you create and think to themselves, wow that person is blessed. Or wow, she/he is devoted to God. His love for you and all that he has done in your life should be reflected in everything you do.

His love should run through our hands so that everything we create and work on is made from a place of love. "

Stop Using Bandaids Aug 28, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 55:22. "Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall."
"...Here I am just a few days later in the middle of the summer in Miami FL with broken AC. This is the result of technicians putting a series of bandaids over a serious problem, costing more money in the long run rather than replacing the system in the home.

This is a real life reminder that sometimes the systems we have in place are old and outdated. When they stop working we put bandaids over them so that we don't have to face the music and be okay with the fact that we need an entirely new system.

Broken system are easy to spot. It's usually when you hit rock bottom and you know you need help from God himself. But how many of you know that your unit should get a tune-up every single year.

Yearly maintenance can save up to 50% of broken units. Who thought we would have so much in common with Air Conditioning?

Our internal system needs the same thing. This is why fasting is important. This is why studies are important. You can't just go to Church on Sunday, you need to be doing more on a weekly monthly and yearly basis to connect with God..."

    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Psalm 138:8 You keep every promise you’ve ever made to me! Since your love for me is constant and endless, I ask you, Lord, to finish every good thing that you’ve begun in me!
"We can rest assured that His love for us is constant and endless. He promises to finishes all of the good things He's begun in us. It makes me excited to enter new chapters. It means the outcome may not be exactly how you may imagine, but it's definitely an outcome God intended for us long ago."

Three Ways To Get Out Of Sadness Aug 26, 2020
    Show notes

Brought to you by Shanna Alonge and Alison Elizabeth, today we are reading out of 1 Peter 5:6. We are encouraged to lean on God to pull us out of sadness.
"We can do three things to get out of sadness. We can one, remember He is all knowing. Two, know that He is for us, and three - look back on the past and see how he's brought us out of our struggle."

Beauty From Within Aug 25, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we dive into 1 Peter 3:3-4 and look to our inner selves for a reference of beauty. What does God truly find beautiful?
"The problem is, social media has gotten us in the habit of looking better for our photos than for the occasion itself. This culture has bred an environment of comparison. We look at other people's “after” photos from their weight loss journey and we forget there are an extremely hard journey for that person to get there. We have to stop this comparison culture and start looking to our inner selves.

The beautiful part about our God is that he sees us for who we truly are. There is no vanity in God's perception of beauty.

God is looking for a gentle and quiet spirit. This doesn't mean that you are a quiet person who doesn't get to share an opinion, this means you are gentle with others. It means you listen to who they really are rather than what they appear to be. Take the time to get to know a person for their actions and desires. Get to know a person for everything they can become in this life."

No Need To Run on Fumes Aug 21, 2020
    Show notes

Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read through 2 Corinthians 12:9 and we lean on God when we have had a long week or are in the middle of a tough season.
"But how many of us know that is the worst thing we can do for our cars. Running low on gas is not a good quality, it effects the life of the car. One time? No big deal, but prolonged neglect of putting gas in your car can cost you a lot of money in repairs down the line.
The same thing happens to us. When we run on empty, we stop praying, we stop celebrating, we stop being present. We are irritated, ungrateful, we can't see the blessings in our life. It starts to feel like “it will always be this way” and start saying things like “when is my big break coming”.
This verse is a gift. It's a reminder. When we are weak, he is strong. There is no one else in the world that can help you the way he can. It allows us to change the narrative. Instead of saying “when is my big break coming” we can confidently say “I know this was a long week, but my God is good. He is making a way for me, and while I am in the waiting I will stay grateful, I will stay engaged, I will look for blessings in the every day because my God is powerful”
So let us boast in our weakness like this verse says! Let the world know that even when you are tired, weak, had a rough day, a bad week at work, or are in the middle of what seems to be like the worst season of your life, God is good. God is powerful. God is in control, God has the ability to see you through every situation. Give it to him!"

We pray these devotions will help you to grow in your faith, and that you'll join us every weekday for a morning prayer and some time in God's Word!
