WGB #91: Happy Harvey Day May 14, 2021
    Show notes

It's no secret that there was no love lost between the New York Mets and Matt Harvey when they parted ways. The one-time all-star had the city of Gotham eating out of the palm of his hand, but the brightest stars burn twice as fast. The guys reflect on the impact that Matt Harvey had on the franchise, what his starts meant during the dark ages of Mets fandom and how his fixation with celebrity ultimately did him in in the city that never sleeps. While KFC and Clem were happy with the way the fans treated him on his return, that doesn't erase any of the bs that he put us through during the final seasons of his stay. We break down the bench mob and how they may be the factor that leads the Mets to a postseason birth, try to figure out what the hell is going on with James McCann at the plate and relish in our stockpile of pitching that's shutting down the entire league. KFC asks the important question: just how good does Kelenic have to be for us to regret the Diaz trade and will the team's success based on saves erase any sour taste in our mouths? Also Clem draws a line in the sand for Frank the Tank. We know this podcast is called 'We Gotta Believe' and we tell you you have to believe, but does that apply to pessimistic Frank or are we just letting anyone jump on the bandwagon after a 7-game win streak? Clem has some strong feelings on the issue and the countdown clock has begun. If you chose to believe, we salute you. If you want to believe, you're welcome to it. But if you're still on the fence, figure it out because time's ticking and we're only getting stronger.

    WGB #90: RatCoon Rally May 10, 2021
    Show notes

Special Bonus Edition of WGB because there is simply way too much going on with this ball club to cover it all in one episode. Not saying that we're going to have an episode for every series the Mets play, but when you got the new face of your franchise and the Hits6od going at it in a tunnel you better believe we're dedicating an episode to it!!! Team Rat, Team Raccoon or Team RatCoon it doesn't matter as long as the actual team keeps playing the way they have been. The Mets are on a 5-game win streak, currently in first in the NL East and the lineup is FINALLY HITTING. We said last week that they needed to bring Bully Ball back and some of the guys needed to show a spine and get angry and boy did they! Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil's frustrations apparently boiled over in the tunnel and what resulted was an absolute breakout for both superstars. They let the anger flow through them and they channeled it into mashing baseballs. Truly couldn't have seen that coming from the two most mild mannered people on the planet, but what's more is, we couldn't have made up that rat-raccoon cover story if our lives depended on it. So dumb, so stupid, so over-the-top, yet so perfect. If this run continues and we continue to beat the brakes off of teams then the RatCoon story will go down in infamy as the turning point of the entire franchise. The guys break down the positives and negatives of the story, how the club has responded since and the very high and very real expectations for the rest of the season. We also discuss the lock down bullpen, just how nervous we should be about deGrom's recent health scares and who are the next players targeted to "meet in the tunnel." There are a ton of reasons to convince you to believe, but all you need is a pair of eyes to see that this team is the real deal so we gotta believe.

    WGB #89: Metsothelioma May 07, 2021
    Show notes

Do you or a loved one suffer from Metsothelioma? Then you may be entitled to compensation. Make no mistake about it, new ownership or not, being a Mets fan is a sickness and this week was a prime example of that!! What felt like a marathon of events was crammed into just 7 days and had the guys thinking they may need to add a second episode if it continues on this pace. We break down the Dom Smith/ Alvarado "meet me in the tunnel" feud, ESPN's trash broadcast that makes everyone's ears bleed and the unlikely -illar duo that's taking the lineup by storm. Clem recaps his sleepy night during the Diaz blown save/ Homer-NoMer from Hoskins, KFC declares Rojas is officially on borrowed time and everyone gives their thoughts on the Alonso-Donnie Stevenson-Hughie Q news that gave us flashbacks to the Willie Randolph firing. It's a lot to keep track of when the Mets are constantly riding highs and lows, but we gotta believe that cooler heads will prevail. deGrom will take the extra time he needs to get healthy, Frankie Lindor will eventually learn how to swing that thing called a bat and the rest of the squad will assume the roles they were meant to play. Don't let a shaky start out of the gate sway you into thinking this team isn't good. They are exactly who we thought they were, now they just have to show it.

WGB #88: Rebrand- Knicks Out, D*cks Out Apr 30, 2021
    Show notes

No, we're not really rebranding to a Knicks podcast (yet), but it is goddamn exhausting being positive about the Mets at the moment and Luis Rojas and the bats aren't making it any easier! The lineup has "anxiety" and it's sending us over the deep end. Seriously though, what kind of manager offers that up as an excuse for the entire lineup not hitting with runners in scoring position? As far as we're concerned Rojas has been on borrowed time his whole career so the only question is when do the Mets clean house? The guys debate how much more leash Rojas and Chili Davis have and whether or not a coaching change would even make a difference. We talk all things Jacob deGrom from his last two outings and wonder why he hasn't ripped the entire clubhouse a new a** h*** yet. KFC and Clem discuss if the clubhouse is too nice to win, we deep dive the wild Zack Wheeler story from 2015 and wonder aloud what it's going to be like when the other shoe drops for this pitching staff. We also get into the Gen Z drama with the 135 Mafia and nym news and preview the 4-part 30 for 30 on the 1986 Mets. There's been a lot of mediocre baseball played in April, but somehow, someway we are a half game back of first and we gotta believe we'll be sitting pretty in May to take the NL East by storm.

WGB #87: Smiles and Cries Apr 23, 2021
    Show notes

No matter who the owner may be, there is one inalienable rule to baseball and that's that there are highs and lows to every season. No matter how good or bad a team is you can almost always pencil in 70 wins and 70 losses. Those extra 22 are what determines the cream of the crop. This week was a perfect example of that. Our starting pitching was pumping on all cylinders and the team was cruising to back-to-back series wins only to run into the down-on-their-luck Cubs who promptly handed our asses to us. That's baseball Suzyn, you can only hope that the losses are few and far between. KFC jumps on a grenade for his "guy" JD Davis and proclaims he's ready to ride with him until the wheels fall off (which they may have these past two games), we highlight a special father-daughter moment and Clem tells the "sky is falling" fanbase to chill out. We gotta believe that this past game will be the worst of the season. It has to be if we want to accomplish our goals, but that doesn't mean we have to win them all. Baseball is a game of gives and takes, we just need to make sure we're the takers. Now that's some smiles and cries for your ass.

WGB #86: An Amazin' Turn Of Events Apr 16, 2021
    Show notes

Mets fans are some of the most passionate around and with that passion comes over reaction. We fly high and sink low at the drop of a hat and boy are we flying right now! After a slow start that dealt with COVID cancellations and rain outs, the Mets finally got back to playing consistent baseball and wouldn't you know it, the sky isn't falling after all. The rotation has looked amazing lately with deGrom, Taijuan Walker, Stroman and Peterson all pitching gems and the bats look to be finally waking up. NimmOBP is playing like a man possessed, reaching base at least twice in every game this season, Dom Smith looks to be a true heart of the order hitter and Pete Alonso is spraying the ball all over the park. Once Lindor and McNeil really start to get going this lineup is going to be SCARY. We're winning games with bare minimum run support so just wait until we're putting up six runs on a consistent basis. Diaz is electrifying the crowds with his entrance music, but it's his pitching that's really going to put it over the top. Sure, there's still question marks in the pen, but with guys like Loup, Castro and May stepping up this could really be the complete team that everyone was hoping for. There will still be days where we can't put it all together, but if a guy like Frank the Tank can fist pump at least a few nights a week then we could really be on the road to 96 after all! KFC breaks down his live-watch with the Tank and what really sent him over the edge, we talk about the Verducci-deGrom article that was utter nonsense and the guys address the "breaking news" warning that was meant as a courtesy, but was met with backlash. At the end of the day we're all fans and we're all here for the Mets. We wanted to tip people off as to what was coming down the pike so that they could prepare themselves for the headlines and bad press, but mainly we're just here to react to what's going on with the team on the field. We gotta believe that this winning streak isn't just a flash in the pan, but really a glimpse into what the 2021 season will be. We're taking the good vibes to Colorado and popping those blue mountains as Jacob deGrom heads to the bump to make it four in a row!

WGB #85: Opening Day Reset Apr 09, 2021
    Show notes

After the postponement to start the season and the lackluster performance in Philly, we have decided to call for an Opening Day Reset!! Those first 3 games were just a warm up and we will treat them as such. Does our bullpen look like a colossal disaster? Yes. Did the team hang Jacob deGrom out to dry YET AGAIN? Yes. Can our batters hit with RISP? No. Are we choosing to ignore all of that for a little glimmer of happiness on the first home game of the season? You bet your ass we are! 1-2 isn't the end of the world. It's a typical start to a season same as anything else, it's just the way we're losing. We've read this book before, seen the problems, had the incompetent managers and now we've got PTSD. KFC and Clem are flashing back to seasons of past and it's all looking a little too familiar. The team's on the hot seat and will continue to be all season long. The expectations are too high and the pressure will only mount, but we gotta believe that Sandy and co. can get this sorted in short order. Come hell or high water uncle Stevie will refuse to lose. So we're taking a deep breath and following the theme of the year: Chill Out. Sit back, relax and grab a Coors Light because the year is long and the road to 96 isn't for the faint of heart.

WGB #84: The Beginning of the Rest of Our Lives! Apr 01, 2021
    Show notes

Happy Opening Day and a very happy LINDOR DAY to you and yours! Baseball is back, the Mets are back and Steve Cohen is the savior we all knew he would be!!! The finance titan signs our franchise shortstop at the eleventh hour to the tune of $341 Million and we are flying high into the inaugural season of the Golden Era of Cohen. The city is buzzin' The team is ready to rock and we've got the best pitcher in baseball taking the mound for some opening night festivities! The guys gush over the Lindor deal and the success of the team before ever taking the field, they make some LOFTY predictions for the season and we pat ourselves on the back for an offseason well done. There's just something about Opening Day that fills the air with electricity. Blue skies, fresh cut grass, bird chirpin' this is what it's all about. The promise of a new year and that things will once and for all be different. Could this be THE year? Who knows, but we do know one thing, we gotta believe!

    WGB #83: Spring Cleaning Mar 26, 2021
    Show notes

Last week of Spring Training and we are more than ready to get this over with. The team is set, we have our guys, now let's go out and play!!! Spring Training was useful back when the pros were working on boat docks in the offseason, but now we've got finely tuned athletic machines and we want them to get their swings in when it counts. They guys weigh in on the grind of the offseason and how exhausting it is having to wait for Opening Day. Francisco Lindor is mashing at the dish and having a grand old time in the field. He's the level of superstar where he can have all of the fun he wants between the lines because he's that much better than everyone else and it shows. Unfortunately the Mets' front office isn't having that same level of fun off the field because they can't seem to get an extension done. The market is going to be teeming with shortstop talent in 2022, but there's just something about Frankie that fits with this club. Sure we've had talented teams in the past, but to have every spot in the lineup bringing something unique to the table? That's rare. Hell, Jeff McNeil, the hits GOD doesn't even have a slot cemented because there's so many other guys that can work at the top of the order. The only lingering problems for this club are Carlos Carrasco's impact for the year and how the bullpen will hold up. "Joey Fuego" Lucchesi and David Peterson have been penciled into the rotation, but with that comes a weakening of the pen. Dellin Betances is a disaster, we're waiting on Lugo and Familia is a heart attack waiting to happen. We need Diaz to "always be closing," but the bridge to get there will be a treacherous one. KFC and Clem brainstorm making Chris Christie and his FUPA the official "food guy" of Citi Field, we look ahead to the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the festivities surrounding it and give an update on next week's Gala and Opening Day preview. We've got about 6 days to figure this sh*t out with Lindor and Conforto before we turn the page and focus on the season. If the reports of the money being in the ballpark of $300 million then we gotta believe we get this done. The only question is when?

WGB #82: Citi Field Stand Up Mar 19, 2021
    Show notes

Citi Field is Back! Albeit 20 percent, but we'll take what we can get. Fans will be in the stands come Opening Day and that crowd is gonna be rockin' from the first pitch. KFC and Clem break down what this means for Barstool at the Ballpark and how we're working to make sure that everyone has the best experience possible. Yes, it's socially distanced. Yes, it means that the group may need to be split up with another outing, but the big picture here is that baseball is back and we'll be there all season long! We deep dive into the big bats coming alive at the perfect time of Spring and just how scary this lineup will be now that Pete is back to hitting F*ck bombs all over the park. There's nothing prettier than a power hitter spraying in the alleys and the Pete we are seeing right now is the reason why he's the odds on favorite to lead the league in homers once again. The guys looks into the Lindor contract negotiations, the defensive situation with Nimmo and the diamond in the rough that is Luis Guillorme. It looks like we're gonna have ourselves a little healthy competition at third base, but that will only make JD double Davis Davis work harder and make the club better as a whole!! After recording we got word that Carlos Carrasco tore his hamstring and is likely headed to the IL for a long stint, but with Peterson, Lucceshi and Yamamota lighting it up for a rotation spot all that means is that two of the three will get a chance to show us what they've got. The only looming problem with this team is the same problem we've had since its inception and that's depth in the bullpen. There's a ton of question marks, the biggest being Betances and skinny Familia, but we gotta believe that if the bats do what they do and our starters give us a chance then we'll have a fighting chance night in and night out.
