WGB #71: Cano No Moe Nov 20, 2020
    Show notes

Everything is coming up Cohen! Even "bad" Mets news somehow turns out perfectly for the Mets new owner as Robinson Cano's most recent PED suspension opens up the bottle neck at second base for the 2021 season!! The once perennial All-Star second baseman forfeits his season, his position and most importantly, his $24 million paycheck, paving the way for MASSIVE possibilities. Not only will Jeff McNeil get to return to his natural position, but the Mets now free up the money of their second largest contract. What does Uncle Stevie plan on doing with that money you may ask? "Spend it on players." This guy is the real deal, pumping money back into his investment and making the team even better than it was before. Clem and Kyle discuss what that means for players' positions, acquiring new talent and the future of the 38-year-old tumor that still has 2 years and $48 million left on his deal. We also bid farewell to Terry Collins, discuss Noah Syndergaard's progress, pick our 2021 standouts and track the Mets' front office moves. The Mets have become the hot new topic that everyone is talking about and with each new week there's a ton of new news about the crown jewel of the league. We gotta believe that this is our new normal. We are the premiere destination for players and front office talent alike and there's nothing we like more. This can no longer be a seasonal podcast. There's simply too much going on day-to-day and we want to bring it to you week in and week out so strap in folks cause the Mets and We Gotta Believe are in it for the long haul!

WGB #70: We Actually Believe Nov 13, 2020
    Show notes

Uncle Stevie made his grand entrance to the Mets faithful and he somehow exceeded our every expectation! The man LITERALLY threw the Mets' first perfect game presser!! He pulled on our heart strings as fans, saying everything we've ever wanted to hear and more. He's not just here because he wanted to own his childhood team, he's here to build an iconic franchise with lasting success. He's got a big purse, but a big brain to go along with it. He's not going to meddle in the front office, he's not going to cry about not having the funds to compete in New York, he's going to build a juggernaut commensurate to a big market franchise. Losing is not an option for this guy, it's playoffs or bust every. single. season. And if you think those goals are too lofty? Well King Cohen has news for you, he's not just coming for the Yankees, he's coming after all 29 teams in the league year in and year out. He knows we have the core to win right now and that's what he expects to do. If we're not hoisting that World Series trophy in the next 3-5 years (if not sooner) that will be a DISAPPOINTMENT. Music to our ears! The only person that can even come close to our level of excitement is The Maverick himself, Sandy Alderson. He was smiling ear to ear, writing out his shopping list for a nice little afternoon in the gourmet section of the supermarket. Big names are no longer unattainable and the farm system will no longer be used for bargaining chips. We will pay for what we want and the price tags don't matter! It's no exaggeration to say that we have never been higher on this team. You would think that our fondest moment in Mets history would have been the championship run, the improbable victory that got us to October, the fan favorite- tears in his eyes because he loves the Mets more than words can express, but instead it's a 90-minute press conference. An unsuspecting, balding man with glasses and a quarter-zip sitting at a desk spinning tales of what this franchise will one day become. If that doesn't get you going then you don't have a pulse. We gotta believe that this is it. This is the moment we'll tell our kids about many years and championships from now when we look back at this defining time in Mets history when we went from laughing stock to the envy of every team across the league. We Actually Believe.

WGB #69: Cohen Has Cometh Nov 07, 2020
    Show notes

The Cohen deal is finally official and no less than 2 hours later Uncle Stevie had himself a Red Wedding. No one in baseball ops was left standing. Brodie and his brain trust of Baird, Guttridge and Banner were all sent packing along with our sweet Omar Minaya. In one foul swoop Sandy and Stevie let the entire baseball world know that they're here and they mean business!! The guys breakdown who could be filling the roles, what moves we hope for in free agency, how Uncle Stevie is changing the culture and involving fans and our big ideas for the future. Baseball is truly fun for the first time in our Mets lives and we're like kids on Christmas. No name too big and no ideas too expensive or outlandish. We have finally reached Cohen's kingdom and the opportunities are endless! This offseason will be one for the record books and we gotta believe when we take the field in 2021 that everyone will be wishing they were the New York Mets.

    WGB #68: He's Here and He's Amazin' Oct 30, 2020
    Show notes

The day we have all been waiting for- UNCLE STEVIE IS HERE. Gaining 26 votes on his way to victory, Steven A. Cohen becomes the official owner of the New York Mets! You may be thinking to yourselves, but what about that baby back bitch Bill de Blasio? Don't we have to wait for him to make it official? NOPE! Because Backtrackin' Bill followed suit exactly 3 minutes and a $17.5 million dollar donation later. We are locked in, ready to go and could not be happier!! KFC jumped on live radio with Clem so the guys could take calls from you, the fans, because it's only fitting that we all share this moment together. Big things are coming and we're already buzzing with what the future will hold. If Cohen's initial statement is any indication, we gotta believe that this will be the first of many celebrations this offseason.

WGB #67: Wishlists and Postseason Picks Oct 02, 2020
    Show notes

Just when we thought we were going into our cocoon to emerge as a beautiful butterfly in November, we were dragged out for one last episode!!! Can't let the Yankees advance without giving our postseason picks for who's going to bring them down. Not that the season actually matters, but we'd be lying if we said we aren't rooting against the Yanks from getting their 27.5th rings. The guys break down the shitshow postseason schedule, which teams are contenders and which are pretenders and select their temporary teams to finish off the season. Also, the Mets wishlist keeps growing and with Lindor being added to the mix, we had to make some tough decisions on where the team is headed. Kills us to do it, but some fan favorites gotta be moved to make room for where we're headed and we gotta believe that the long term happiness will outweigh the short term sadness. Trust in the Cohen Effect and all will be rewarded.

    WGB #66: Sandy Returns Sep 25, 2020
    Show notes

That's a wrap on the 2020 season of We Gotta Believe! A corona shortened year that gave us 2 managers, a missing and presumed dead player, countless injuries/opt outs and a disappointing finish, but at the end of the day we got what we always wanted. Not a World Series title, but a new big time BILLIONAIRE owner!! We said it right from the start, this season was fraudulent anyway. We had our sights set on one goal and one goal only and that was running the Wilpons out of town. Free at last, free at last, thank Uncle Stevie because we are free at last. Despite not getting MLB owners' approval to take over the team yet, Steve Cohen has been busy behind the scenes putting together a team that we can one day be proud of. His first order of business? Bringing back the baseball maverick to be our new Mets President. This won't be the Sandy Alderson that you remember, this will be so much more. Granted the power to build the franchise the way that he always envisioned, we'll be getting the baseball mind that put together our current core of players plus the means to build a front office and clubhouse around them for lasting success. The guys break down what we can expect in the years to come, the hangups they may have about bringing in someone from the past and how this new look Mets could change our outlook on baseball forever. The expectations couldn't be any higher, but we gotta believe in Uncle Stevie and trust that a man who amassed $14 billion knows what it takes to win at all costs.

    WGB #65: Cy Gone? Sep 18, 2020
    Show notes

We're down to the final stretch of a lost season and our last remaining glimmer of hope for 2020 might be gone too. Jacob deGrom exited his last start with a hamstring spasm and with that, his chances at a Cy Young 3peat may be over. Normally Jake would just be hitting his stride, but in a shortened season, we may be running out of time!! Entering the game as the favorite, deGrom had the league by the balls, but one bad start might be all it takes to lose to the likes of Trevor Bauer and Yu Darvish. It will take a Herculean effort and some luck, but if anyone can defy the odds it's Jake. We can't get too down though because the Uncle Stevie news is heating up! The deal has been finalized, he has operational control and recent reports indicate that we won't have to wait until November for our savior to come in and clean house. It's hard to be bitter looking down the barrel of $14 billion and we gotta believe that this off season will be the most exciting of our Mets lives! So strap in and get ready because Stevie is here and everything is golden.

WGB #64: Catching The Flight Back From Cuncelina? Sep 11, 2020
    Show notes

The guys contemplate grabbing a flight back from Cuncelina after a big win for the Amazins and taking a look at the offensive numbers. Hard to believe that a top-3 team in offense has only 20 wins, but when the look at the pitching it's clear to see why!! deGrom and Lugo are as solid as you can ask for, but when the rest of your rotation has a 6 ERA and the bullpen is a crapshoot night after night can you really think a postseason push is possible? WE DON'T CARE ABOUT EDWIN DIAZ'S NUMBERS. You can scream his stats at us until you are blue in the face, we will not trust him until he proves to be a reliable option late in tight games. We break down the recent Uncle Stevie negotiations, look ahead at the gauntlet schedule that remains and highlight our new "quickies" segment to get Mets Fans Anonymous the rest of the way through. We are down to the final 16 and are in dire need of a run if we even want a glimmer of hope, but we gotta believe that we'll go on a miraculous run and have egg on our face or crash and burn the likes of which we've become accustomed to under the Wilpons' reign of terror. Either way, brighter days are ahead and we cannot be more excited for what the future holds.

WGB #63: Remembering Tom Terrific (BONUS: In The Books! Game 38 Walking Off the Yankees) Sep 04, 2020
    Show notes

KFC is off in Cuncelina but Clem and Kyle jumped on to honor the late great Tom Seaver. 'The Franchise,' referred to by Vin Scully as the greatest right-handed pitcher he ever witnessed, passed away at 75 leaving behind a family and fan base with which he gave countless memories. Tom Terrific was an absolute force and one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the game!! He holds virtually every Mets' pitching record, 3 Cy Youngs, a no-hitter and the Amazin' 69 World Series championship. It's tough to put into words just how great he was both on and off the field, but if the testimonies of everyone he came into contact with are any indication, he was both a Hall of Fame player and person. RIP to the great. We also recap the new additions to the team and the roles they have played thus far, the Cohen sale and A-Rod controversy surrounding the bid and drink the tears of Yankees' fans, compliments of a Pete Alonso BOMB to walk it off in extra innings. We may have ultimately split the season with the Yankees but, we gotta believe there was no sweeter way to go out then with a 9th inning implosion from your crosstown rivals.

In The Books! Postgame Show: Trade Deadline & Game 35 Sep 01, 2020
    Show notes

The Mets fell to the Marlins 5-3 on their way to a 4-game losing streak, but that wasn't going to stop Brodie Van Wagenen from slapping some paint on a sinking ship. Our snake oil salesman did what all Mets' GMs do, retread. The Todd Father is back whether we want him or not and he's joined by catcher Robinson Chirinos and reliever Miguel Castro. What did we get for this haul for the ages? Cash of course! The Wilpon way!! At this point none of these moves are really going to address the issues plaguing this club, but the silver lining is that pretty soon we aren't going to have to deal with this type of penny pinching nonsense anymore. Uncle Stevie is coming, the season is fraudulent anyway.
