077: Your Story Is Crap May 03, 2022
    Show notes

We create stories in your heads all the time. When something doesn't go the way we thought it would, our brains fill in holes whether or not we have all the facts. We project our emotions and assumptions onto others. We try to control what we simply cannot.

In today's episode, I'm talking about why these stories that we make up are rooted in our own emotions and not based in reality. I'm sharing why it's important to put these stories in the past, to focus on only what we can control, and moving forward on your own terms.

It's time to stop dredging up the pain of stories that you've created in your head and making assumptions about the actions of others. Your story has helped get you where you are today, but it doesn't define you.

When you stop infusing stories with pain and anger and fear, you can start living your life with the excitement, love, and creativity that exists inside of you.

    What's in this episode:

Why we create stories in our heads when things don't go how we thought they would

How making excuses for people is not based in reality and only brings about resentment

Why we need to stop carrying these made up stories around

Why we remember our reactions to things more than we remember the thing itself

Releasing what we don't have control over

Why you should put down stories that don't define you or serve you anymore

The importance of focusing on your life moving forward

    076: What are Your Self-Limiting Beliefs? Apr 26, 2022
    Show notes

I can't do that. I'll never make that much money. People won't pay that price. I don't have the experience. I shouldn't do that. I don't know how. I can't.

    I can't. I can't. I can't.

These self-limiting beliefs lived rent-free in my head for most of my life.

Growing up in a small community and without the expansive access of the internet, I only knew what I saw around me. I wasn't exposed to women and mothers who had successful careers as authors or lawyers or HR executives or doctors. I was limited in my beliefs of what I was capable of.

In today's episode, I'm talking about how to put self-limiting beliefs in the past and allow yourself to dream big and truly believe that you can have and do and be anything that you want. We'll chat about why self-limiting beliefs pop up, ways to expose ourselves to all that is possible, and how to ditch these beliefs of doubt and fear for good.

Self-limiting beliefs keep us small. Take charge over how you perceive yourself and your capabilities and allow yourself to shine.

    What's in this episode:

    My journey with self-limiting beliefs

How self-limiting beliefs are based on society, childhood experiences, trauma, and lack of exposure

Why you should exposure yourself (and your kids) to other communities, to people who dream big, to different ways of living and navigating the world

How positive-self talk can squash self-limiting beliefs

Phrases to eliminate from how you talk to yourself and about yourself (hint: stop saying, "I can't)

Giving yourself permission to truly believe that anything and everything is possible

Breaking down goals to get where you want to go

The importance of community to combat self-limiting beliefs and level up to achieve your dreams

    075: I've Been Broken for 25 Years Apr 19, 2022
    Show notes

For a long time, I didn't realize I was so afraid. I always thought of myself as a strong person, someone who could stand tall in the face of adversity. But recently, I've come to realize that I've kept my loved ones at arm's length for years, all because I'm afraid of losing them. My strength, it turns out, came at the expense of my tenderness.

On today's episode, I'm opening up about my recent trip to Costa Rica and all the pain, grief, and fear I uncovered there. I'm sharing how I've come to terms with my fear of intimacy and closeness, and I'm getting real about how I want to learn to love.

When I die, I don't want to be known as someone who was strong, unwavering, or tough. I want to be known as a woman who loved deeply and without fear, someone who wasn't afraid to love so hard it hurt. That's the kind of person I'm going to become, and I invite you to do the same.

    What's in this episode:

My experience grieving my son when we thought he wouldn't make it

Coming to terms with my struggles to be intimate with the ones I love

Why I put up barriers to keep myself from getting hurt again

How ignoring your pain can become a detriment to the healing process

Why strength and coldness seem to come hand-in-hand

My experience with past life regression and reconnecting with old grief

How I unlocked this pain and grief during my trip to Costa Rica

Why it's okay not to be strong and to instead feel deeply and without fear

074: Travel and Wake Up to Life Apr 12, 2022
    Show notes

The best way to experience truly life-changing moments and understand more about yourself and the world is to travel. A beach vacation is one thing. But an adventure in a new country, discovering how other people live, the beauty and excitement that comes with experiencing a completely different culture—that is the kind of travel that is soul-nourishing, that lights you up, that gets you thinking differently.

In this episode, I'm sharing my own personal travel experiences and the profound ways that travel changes your life. For Americans, international travel is often posed as "dangerous," with the media giving fear-based news stories that keep people thinking that the world is full of unrest. The reality is that there is unrest everywhere, including here at home. Don't let fear keep you from connecting with people who live differently than you.

Travel is the only way to truly make a connection to other humans in a way that makes us more empathetic and understanding of the human condition. It allows you to experience life to its fullest.

    What's in this episode:

Meredyth's upcoming spiritual retreat in Costa Rica

Why she likes to discover when she travels (no boring beach vacations here)

Why traveling lights up your soul

How traveling profoundly changes the way you look at the world and how people live their lives

A story of her travels in India and how experiencing other cultures keeps you humble

How Americans are apathetic about poor people in this country and why that needs to change

The importance of connecting with a different way of life, of interacting with the planet, of community

How Americans—especially the media—are fear-based about traveling to other countries

How international travel can open people's eyes to the struggles that exist at home in the US

    073: Your Soul Self Doesn't Care That You're Alive Apr 05, 2022
    Show notes

This may come as a shock but your spiritual being, your soul self, doesn't care that you're alive. We're all on a journey in our lifetimes and it's up to you to see it that way. Everything that happens to you: the good, the bad, the mundane, it's all here to serve a greater purpose for you and those around you.

This episode will help you to reflect on the past, enjoy the present moment and not feel so uptight about the future. We have so much power to choose light and love so I want to encourage you to intentionally make that choice. In this episode, you'll hear more about the journey that your soul pre-determined and signed up for plus how to get out of your own way and enjoy this life that you're living.

    What's in this episode:

What I've learned about your soul self

The souls of aborted, stillbirth and miscarried children

How everything that happens to you is for a purpose

The divine pre-planned perfection of this lifetime

Why you have to get out of your own way

What to do when you see something that frustrates you

Why you need to worry about yourself and not others

How the storm is a reflection of us

How we all fall short sometimes

    What righteous judgment is

The two choices we have: love vs. lack of love

    How you've already won

072: You Created All of This Mar 29, 2022
    Show notes

Do you ever ask yourself, Why did this happen to me? I want to ask you to consider a reframe on that question. Nothing is happening to you. Everything is for you, created by you. Instead of the above, ask yourself, Why did I want this? What did I need from this? What is the lesson?

Nothing is an accident, and there is nothing standing between you and your higher self. You are the creator and the creation. The sooner you realize that you created every experience, every interaction, every heartache, the sooner you will step into your power. You won't default to victim mode, you won't feel helpless. You will understand the value of learning and growing. Challenge yourself to learn who you are.

    What's in this episode:

How we lose touch with our higher self energy

Why frustration with the universe (or God) is actually frustration with self

How we get in our own way (our happiness, our empowerment, our love for others)

Working towards getting away from human suffering and self-sabotage

Choosing between ego and fear or love and faith

Why negativity is the opposite of your higher self

    071: Remothering Yourself Mar 22, 2022
    Show notes

Have you ever thought of how vital it is to get what you need from yourself instead of trying to get other people—your parents, your colleagues, your spouse—to give you praise, validity, acceptance? Have you learned to accept yourself and truly be your own person?

Today, I'm chatting with my daughter Skylar about the concept of remothering, or reparenting. It's an empowering feeling to take the pressure off your childhood, to take your parents off a pedestal, and to realize that looking within is what truly allows you to feel good about yourself. The acceptance you're looking for? It should come from you. With this practice, you can be your most authentic self without needing validation from others. And, let me tell you, it's a game changer.

    What's in this episode:

How remothering (or reparenting) yourself is a form of self-empowerment

How to heal if you weren't given the parenting you wanted/needed

Why you need to be finished holding your parents accountable

The importance of going within to seek feedback and support from yourself

Helping your kids to not look to their parents for self-esteem or to feel good about themselves

How different generational ideas of success can cause a disconnect

How being your own person positive affects all of your relationships

Why you shouldn't base your existence on the desire to be accepted by others

How to be a supportive parent without making your kids dependent on your support

070: Old Programming Dies Hard Mar 15, 2022
    Show notes

Do you ever wonder where your trust issues come from? Where your fear of something comes from? Or why you get a pit in your stomach in anticipation of something that hasn't even happened yet? We've all been there. Memories live in our minds and our bodies and can give rise to trauma. And trauma responses can pop up when we least expect them to.

In today's episode, I'm talking about how old programming can affect our lives years into the future and how important it is for us to learn from the past and reprogram so that we can move forward. When we ask ourselves questions, when we dig deep, when we give ourselves the opportunity to heal, when we make a conscious effort to move forward … That's when we can transform into truly amazing versions of ourselves.

    What's in this episode:

Why admitting you have a problem is the first step

How to get in tune with yourself and ask questions

How to get to the root of the problem by going backward to when it first started

Acknowledging what no longer serves you and replacing it with what does

Why you can't simply talk yourself out of trauma (and what you can do)

The importance of REprogramming and keeping old programming in the past

    Why you're never actually "stuck"

Do you feel safe? Do you create a space that allows others to feel safe and heard? What even is safety? In this episode, I am joined once again by my daughter Skylar to dive into this hot topic of safety and what it actually means.

You'll hear us talk about how you can find safe spaces within your own communities and what you can do if you don't have an established safe space. We chat about everything from creating boundaries, to self-love and being the light.

If you want to create safe spaces for yourself and others, listen in as we share some takeaways that you can start implementing today.

    What's in this episode:

Why you should set boundaries when sharing

What to do when you don't have a space safe with people

068: Dating Only to Get Married? Mar 01, 2022
    Show notes

Dating with the sole purpose of getting married as the end game puts a lot of pressure and anxiety on something that should be fun—where you should be able to get to know yourself, to get to know someone else, to make a friend, to learn what you're looking for in a mate.

In today's episode, I'm chatting with my daughter, Skylar, about expectations around dating. Relationships have evolved from generation to generation, and marriage isn't necessarily the end goal for many younger people. Removing the pressure of an arbitrary marriage timeline keeps you more open to all the possibilities that life has to offer.

It's about being happy with yourself first and then making sure that the person you spend your life with adds to your life and your happiness.

    What's in this episode:

Paying attention to what works and what doesn't (don't let the rose-colored marriage glasses keep you from seeing red flags)

The rights that come with a marriage certificate

Why there is less pressure on younger generations to get married

Beliefs about marriage among different generations

How to deal with marriage pressure from parents

Why getting married isn't always "the right thing" (and that's okay)

How the advent of the birth control pill changed women's lives

Having different values from your parents is okay
