137: Where AI is Headed in the Future Jun 27, 2023
    Show notes

Artificial intelligence (AI) is such a hot button topic these days. With the rise of tools like ChatGPT, we can now automate certain tasks in minutes that would have taken a lot longer. The question: Is AI a good thing or a bad thing? The answer: Mostly good, but it depends on how it's used.

In this episode, Alison asks me all the questions about AI and its impact on our future. As with any tool, there are pros and cons that we have to weigh, but the future looks a bit brighter with AI in our lives. It can free us to do other things we love, it can level the playing field when it comes to information, it can remove human error on a systemic level. The times, they are a-changin', my friends. It's time to get on board with AI.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

There are real fears around AI, but that seems to happen anytime new technology is introduced into a society, and we have to consider the positives as well

The AI landscape is already evolving so quickly and we don't have the guidelines yet to cover the potential downsides

AI is a tool that can free us to do other things that are enjoyable, like getting back to nature, and it can remove the human error out of many areas of our lives

Meredyth shares that AI is a form of communication with other life forms and energies in the universe

How AI can impact politics, information dissemination, farming and food, education, medical care, the environment, and so much more

Meredyth examines how the analytical nature of AI will impact the emotional capacity of humans in general

136: Put Yourself Out There, Or Else Jun 20, 2023
    Show notes

When was the last time you did something that scared you? When was the last time you stretched yourself into discomfort so you could grow and flourish? I'm not saying you need to make yourself miserable, but I've said it before and I'll say it again: you can't become the person you're meant to be without leaning into your fears.

In this episode, Alison and I break down how you can use your fears, negative emotions –and maybe even hangovers– to guide you toward your own path. It's time to show up. It's time to do something that scares you. It's time to stop always doing what feels good in the moment instead of doing the thing that will bring you real fulfillment. Because there are consequences to avoiding this growth, and they're worse than the temporary discomfort, friends.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

Meredyth talks us through what's next for her and her business ventures

Breaking down the nuances of "spirituality" (it's so different from religion)

How we can choose to disregard our own negative thoughts

How Meredyth uses her own fear as an indicator of the direction she should go next

Why just showing up and being available is one of the best gifts you can give someone

How giving up perfection allows you to show up better and more often

Why doing something that scares you and showing up for something that makes you nervous is what's going to help you grow and build confidence in yourself

How negative feelings can guide you back to your path

What happens when you don't listen to the negative feelings and emotions trying to lead you

    135: Gender Roles are Made-up Jun 13, 2023
    Show notes

I'm sure you've been seeing a lot about gender roles in the media lately, whether it's Target and the backlash of their LGBTQ clothing or it's Florida establishing anti-trans laws. But this concept of traditional gender roles (and what happens when people step out of them) is everywhere lately.

It might be surprising to know that these "norms" have evolved throughout history and are more fluid than you might think. But for some reason, whether it's religion or the media or fear of rejection, we keep adhering to these gender roles when we don't have to.

In this episode, Alison, who is basically my co-host now, joins me in a continuation of last week's episode on gender roles and what it might feel like to rebel against what society expects of us.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

Gender roles are more fluid than we'd like to believe and gender "norms" have come into existence more recently than we'd like to think

Referencing back to last week's episode, I talk about the differences I've experienced in my "housewife" role now that I'm back home and the more "masculine" role of being away on business

If we can remove the rules behind gender roles and society doesn't collapse, then these rules are obviously made up

How trying to avoid judgment and rejection is what makes us want to conform

Why we should embrace not following society's expectations and see where it takes us

134: Gender Roles in Parenting Jun 06, 2023
    Show notes

In my family, I've always been the caretaker and stay at home parent for my kids and my husband worked outside the home. We've embodied these traditional gender roles for years. But I've been away from my family for the past 8 weeks, overseeing construction on the island I mentioned in last week's episode, and my husband has been with the kids during this time.

I have to say, it feels alienating to not be there for the everyday stuff that my kids normally need me for - reminders to brush their teeth and clean their rooms and do their homework. I'm getting a real sense of how it feels to be the traditional dad in most families who work all the time and I can appreciate how difficult it must be.

In this episode, Alison joins me again as I'm sharing the guilt I feel after being away from my kids for so long, but also, surprisingly, the lightness of being the fun parent for once.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

How my traditional dad was instrumental in my "programming" as a housewife and stay at home mom in my first marriage when I was 23 years old

How my role as caretaker has been flipped lately as I've been away for the past 8 weeks and my husband has been home with the kids and I'm feeling a little excluded

The guilt and strain that comes with juggling work and family obligations

How alienating it can feel to not be needed for the everyday issues that pop up

The mean mom vs fun dad trope

    133: I Bought an Island and It's Changed Me May 30, 2023
    Show notes

Back in the fall, I bought an island with a house and a footbridge and soooo many more projects than I could have ever anticipated. Before I bought it, this property was my dream, but I did not know what I was in for with how much work this place needed.

Now, months later, I'm living here away from my family, in a building that's under construction and with few amenities, working with a construction team cleaning, supervising – and sometimes running a jackhammer – to make it safe and livable. It's been a lesson in patience, trust, discernment, and knowing myself among other things.

In this episode, I'm breaking down the whole experience for you: the loneliness, the growth, and all the ways in which I don't think I'll be able to go back to my life as it was before.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

Some background and history on the island property that I purchased

Just a few of the projects we've had to undertake on the property to make it safe for inhabitants

The hard lesson in trust (and when to be discerning) and why I'm staying on-site to oversee construction work now

How this experience is quieting me and stripping away my ego

How working with my hands on this property is an act of creation and how I've missed this creative work in my life

The intense loneliness I've felt at times as I'm isolated and away from my family

How living this simpler, stripped down life is making it more and more difficult to go back to suburbia

132: Does Being Authentic Matter? May 23, 2023
    Show notes

Alison is joining me again today and she had a dream that led to today's topic: authenticity and being true to ourselves. What does it mean to live an authentic life?

In this episode, we talk about embracing our whole true selves, about recognizing the judgments from other people that hold us back, and how true happiness only comes when you no longer try to cram yourself into a tiny box.

So much of authenticity is based on the self, but we somehow focus who we are on other people and their expectations. By doing so, they keep us static in life and we have to learn to let them go to find out who we really are.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

Alison had a dream that led to today's topic, so we talk about why we have dreams and premonitions and experience déjà vu

People lie and are inauthentic because they feel like they're not enough on their own and it can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety

Your authentic self is always evolving and why it helps to move away from your childhood home or the expectations of others that we remain static

How magical it is to break out of the box and fully embrace all the parts of yourself

Why we use other people as mirrors instead of ourselves because we're so afraid of their reactions and feedback

Being your whole true self is the inspiration other people are waiting for to do the same

Everything that we judge in other people is what we judge in ourselves

131: The Importance of Being a Human May 16, 2023
    Show notes

Alison is back and today we're diving deep, like really deep, into humanity and why the hell it even matters that we're human. What's our purpose on this earth and why do we have physical bodies?

In this episode, we talk about spirits, human bodies, karma, astrology, isolation, and so much more, and how it all pertains to being human and why we're all here.

As a society, we've gotten away from feeling grounded in our bodies and nature and it shows. More importantly, we have to remember that no one is better than anyone else. We're all one, we're all living in our physical bodies, and life as we know it, our values, our money - it's all going to change in the near future.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

The concept of being a spirit in a human body and how karma/ reincarnation plays into our suffering on earth

The importance of astrology and human design as an energy map for your lifetime

Why we need to get back to being one with each other and leave behind the sense of "betterness" we have toward others

Why meditating all the time isn't the answer and we need to be more grounded in our physical bodies

How having fun and being free embodies the spirit of the human and we have to get back to that in our society

Why the rising popularity of AI and ChatGPT makes sense and what it means for humanity

    Why isolation is not sustainable

    130: Crystals, Tarot, Mushrooms…oh my! May 09, 2023
    Show notes

I'm welcoming Alison back again and she has a lighter topic for us today: spiritual modalities. During our discussion, I was shown some things that I hadn't seen or considered before relating to spirituality (like what dried out straw can do to your energy!), and that's always so cool when it happens.

In this episode, we talk about tarot cards, crystals, psilocybin, ayahuasca, and other different spiritual modalities that people use to amplify their own energy, plus how fear plays a role in all of it.

Regardless of which modality you choose, however, I have an important reminder for you in this episode about your intentions and how much they matter.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

How everything has a frequency and how it's tied into energy and spirituality

Why your intentions matter most when it comes to tarot cards and crystals and the like

What psilocybin is, what happens when you take it, and how it's different from ayahuasca

Why it feels like there's so much more fear in our society than there's ever been and why we should amplify as much positivity as we can instead

The relationship between crystals and your chakras

An important reminder that these modalities are simply amplifiers

    129: Masculine, Feminine & Work May 02, 2023
    Show notes

Alison is back again and bringing us another hot topic. I never know what the topic will be ahead of time, but I'm extremely grateful to her for bringing up masculine vs. feminine energy because it led to an incredible discussion about defined gender roles as they apply to our society, and how an imbalance between the two energies has affected all of us, but especially employees.

In this episode, we talk about what exactly masculine and feminine energies are and why we're seeing a shift into more fluidity between the two. But most importantly, the spirit guides showed me some important revelations about workplace productivity and why the 40-hour work week is extremely outdated.

If you want to be a successful business owner, especially if you have employees, this episode is a must-listen because this information will put you leaps and bounds ahead of other companies.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

Alison's experience at a seminar that made her want to dive into masculine vs. feminine energies

How our society has programmed us to accept two very defined gender roles and why we're all much more fluid than that

What feminine and masculine energies actually are and how they express themselves in humans

How true equality between these two energies can be attained, at a deep soul level

How we can bring a balance of the masculine vs. feminine into our modern day lives and harness the natural rhythms in our bodies

How we spend our hours each day can create hyper-imbalanced humans are who actually LESS productive, especially in the workplace

128: The Future of Education Apr 25, 2023
    Show notes

Alison is joining me again and today, we're talking about the American education system, why it's not working, and what we can expect for the future of our students.

Until sixth grade, I attended a Montessori school that nurtured my natural desire for knowledge and curiosity. After that, I went to public school and the focus became getting straight A's, passing standardized tests, and getting into college. That was in the 1970s, and nothing has changed for today's students.

In this episode, we discuss how children need to be nourished holistically, with an emphasis on their passions, how teachers need to be re-engaged and supported, and how this change can only come from our society and government as a whole.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

How the American education system has evolved

How COVID and school shootings have given rise to more forms of alternate education

Why there's an exodus of good teachers from the public school system

Why interest-led learning and life skills should be prioritized

The distinction between wisdom and knowledge
