145 Unmasking the Truth: The Deceptive Nature of Alcohol Aug 22, 2023
    Show notes

Today, we're diving deep into a topic that has long been cloaked in misconceptions and half-truths. It's time to unmask the hidden dangers of alcohol, a substance that has woven its way into the fabric of our society, often without us even realizing the extent of its impact.

    The Deceptive Nature of Alcohol

Alcohol, a legal and socially accepted drug, has long been touted as a means of relaxation, celebration, and even escape. But what if I told you that we've been living a lie, one carefully crafted by the alcohol industry? It's time to peel back the layers and reveal the truth.

    The Dopamine Deception

Let's start with a fundamental aspect of alcohol's deception: its effect on our brain's reward system. You see, when you take that sip of wine or down a beer, your brain is flooded with dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter. This rush of pleasure creates an illusion of relaxation and happiness, but it's merely a fleeting high, followed by a crash. Think of it as a twisted game of emotional roulette.

    Glutamate's Grip

The deceit doesn't stop there. Alcohol also messes with another important player in our brain chemistry – glutamate. This neurotransmitter is responsible for excitatory signals in the brain, and alcohol acts as a sedative, suppressing glutamate. So, while you may feel relaxed, your brain is actually being dulled, affecting your cognitive abilities and emotional responses.

    Alcohol vs. Other Drugs

Some may argue that alcohol is no different from other drugs, and they would be right. In many ways, alcohol shares similarities with substances we often stigmatize. The difference? Alcohol's PR campaign. The alcohol industry has expertly marketed its product as a harmless indulgence, while other drugs are condemned. It's a double standard that has shaped our perception.

    The Youth Deception

Young people, the future of our world, are particularly vulnerable to alcohol's deception. They aren't being adequately informed about the dangers of alcohol and nicotine, which both have the potential to hijack their natural dopamine production. It's a sinister cycle of addiction that's perpetuated by design.

    Breaking the Chains

It's time to break the chains of deception, to recognize alcohol for what it truly is – a drug with the potential to dull our lives, impair our judgment, and cause addiction. It's time for open conversations, informed choices, and a reevaluation of our societal norms.

I want to leave you with this: knowledge is power. By understanding the deceptive nature of alcohol and the impact it has on our lives, we can make more informed choices and help guide our youth towards healthier decisions. It's time to lift the veil and see alcohol for what it truly is.

    Show notes

    Introduction:

    • I'm diving into the journey of finding genuine joy by breaking free from addiction and the allure of false dopamine hits.

    • Our modern world often tricks us into believing that happiness comes packaged with temporary fixes like alcohol, smoking, or other addictive behaviors. Embracing Change and Rediscovering Joy

    • 5 weeks ago I decided to take a break from chemical substances, which wasn't easy, of course. But as I distance myself from those false sources of happiness, I had to rediscover what truly brought me joy. I began to focus on hobbies, spending quality time with loved ones, and appreciating the simple things around me.

    The Joy of Authentic Living

    • Recognizing how incredible it is when we remove the reliance on artificial dopamine hits we can open up our capacity for authentic joy.

    • It is like I am seeing the world with fresh eyes. I'm starting to appreciate the beauty of nature, the warmth of genuine connections, and the satisfaction of personal achievements. The joy I am experiencing is becoming deeper and more meaningful than any fleeting high I had ever experienced before.

    Overcoming Challenges and Sustaining Joy

    • Temptation is always here,, but I am building a strong support system of Friends, family, and healthy habits have played a crucial role in keeping me on track. Every time I feel the urge, I remind myself of the long-term happiness I am seeking rather than the short-lived satisfaction."

Words of Wisdom for Our Listeners

    • To everyone out there, remember that true joy is a journey, not a destination. Breaking free from addiction might be challenging, but the rewards are immeasurable. Embrace the discomfort of change, surround yourself with positivity, and you'll find that the authentic joy you've been searching for was within you all along.

    142: Releasing What Doesn't Serve You Aug 01, 2023
    Show notes

There's a big wave of self-love happening lately and it's causing people to make big life changes. We're seeing this happen in different ways, like leaving a job that makes us unhappy or ending a toxic relationship, or changing unhealthy behaviors. The underlying theme here is letting go of whatever doesn't serve you anymore in order to move forward in life. It's powerful stuff and I'm excited to see where we go from here in terms of humanity as a whole.

In this episode, Alison and I chat about exactly that-letting go of things that don't serve us, making big life changes, and embracing self-love. We also discuss how internalizers and externalizers approach these life changes differently, why they can clash as a result, and how perfectionism plays a role in it all. If you're curious about this shift we see happening in our lives, this is the episode for you.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

Why we're seeing such strong energetics of people making big life changes lately and letting go of things that no longer serve them and their lives

The patterns I'm seeing with these life changes fall into two groups: internalizers and externalizers, plus why there's so much turmoil between them

There's a huge wave of self-love energy right now and people are expressing that love in different ways

Why you have to let go of fear and perfectionistic ideals in order to be open to new possibilities in life

140: The Direction of The Earth Jul 18, 2023
    Show notes

I've been feeling really uncomfortable this week and now I know why. I tapped into an entity that had an important message for me about humanity and it's kind of a heavy one. But I'm happy to pass it along to all of you because I know it will give context about the transformation that is happening to the human race as a whole.

In this episode, Alison and I focus on this energy and clarify its message to humanity. We discuss how fear, ego, and destruction are tied into the earth-bound tragedies that keep befalling us. But it's not all bad news. We are experiencing an awakening that is shifting us toward becoming heart-centered souls. I know this episode is a bit different than my normal ones, but I hope you'll receive this message and take it to heart.

An awakening is happening for us to let go of ego and move into the energy of spirit and for our souls to become more heart-centered

Until we can achieve the perfect balance of knowledge and heart-centeredness, tragedies will keep happening in our world

Health and beauty are very intertwined because we age from the inside out. So what you put into your body directly affects your health which will then affect your appearance and how you age. But that's the problem, isn't it? All of us are putting so many terrible things into our bodies.

In this episode, Alison and I talk all about health, wellness, healing, and beauty. We discuss how the food we're putting into our bodies and the toxins we're surrounded by in our environments are negatively impacting our health. But there are ways to neutralize these harmful effects that anyone can access and the answer might be simpler than you think.

    138: Let's Talk Relationships Jul 04, 2023
    Show notes

Venus is in retrograde and there's a lot of relationship talk in the air right now. So many people come to me asking about relationships and finding their soulmates and I think the focus should first be on the self. Before you can find who is meant for you, you have to first figure out who you are.

In this episode, Alison and I chat about all things relationships. We discuss soulmates vs. twin flames, how "soulmate" doesn't always mean what you think it means, the energies we bring to the table in our relationships, and how to attract your ideal partner (it's not what you think!). People often get in their own way when it comes to relationships and we can make it harder than it needs to be.

We want to hear from you! If you have feedback on this new series, please let us know. What questions do you have? What are you curious about? Send your thoughts or questions to meredythwillits@gmail.com.

What you'll find in this episode:

The concept of a twin flame vs. a soulmate, and how these terms are defined

Think of a soulmate as more of a soul friend, and we can have many soulmates over the course of a lifetime

When trying to find your soulmate, you have to first examine yourself and figure out who you are

Focusing on the negative moments in our lives is a survival instinct, but we can reprogram our brains to recognize when something is actually safe vs. unsafe

Humans get so attached to relationships, instead of learning what we need to learn from the experience and moving on
