Wake Up, Mandys: This is The Story of Rod Stewart Oct 03, 2021

Show notes

The Mandys are fighting. Mandy is all up in Martha Beck and she's going to start telling the truth all the time. Yeah, we'll all be holding our breath, too.

The real reason we're gathered here today is that Rod Stewart is a controversial figure in the MandCave. Was he legendary in the 60s British blues scene? Maybe. Was he a mad consumer of hair products? Absurd. But does his music age well through the lens of the documentary This is Rod Stewart available now on Amazon Prime? For the answer to that, you'll have to listen to the show.

The Mandys are Golden Sep 27, 2021

Show notes

Mandy has never seen The Golden Girls. Thankfully, Mandy is here to challenge her to do just that. Celebrating the 80s classic (which is currently available on Hulu), they talk jokes, writing, and history of show while zooming in on the first two episodes.

Oh, and they glance past 'The Golden Palace', and drop a new classic in the form of a Golden Girls Mad Libs game, which is about as well-written as Palace to boot!

The Mandys Have The Secret Sep 20, 2021

Show notes

It's football season, which ushers in a whole new landscape full of opportunities for the Mandys to disagree with one another. This is, we're sure, the first of many discussions of the value of the sport, of fandom, and the lack thereof as well.

The main event, however, kicks off as Mandy forces Mandy into watching The Secret, the 2006 Drew Heriot-directed film based on the book by Rhonda Byrne. Check out IMDB's synopsis:

Interviews with self-proclaimed authors, philosophers, scientists, with an in-depth discussion of visualizing your goals. The audience is shown how they can learn and use 'The Secret' in their everyday lives.

If you want to get a sense of the level of disagreement on this one, lean in on that first line, "Interviews with self-proclaimed authors..." What a fascinating way to sell this movie. Self-proclaimed. Huh.

Mandy brings a game that both cements and destroys friendships.

Welcome to the MandCave Sep 13, 2021

Show notes

We're back! And with Season Two we ring in a new season AND a new name. We've put the Mandemic behind us and we're looking ahead to neon signs and decorative gas pump covers, empty beer bottles and over-sexualized mudflaps. We're still talking about the things that entertain and offend us, but this time we're doing it from the comfort of our hand-me-down blue leather couch...

Welcome to the MandCave, Cinderella...

This week on the show we're talking about the latest update to the fairy tale classic, Cinderella. This time out, Camila Cabello dons the dress with the aid of Billy Porter as the "Fabulous Godmother", Idena Menzel, Pierce Brosnan, Minnie Driver, and James Corden along with a talented cast of young actors. Kay Cannon directs, her directorial follow-up to Blockers from 2018, and we have serious crushes on her.

We disagree, true to form, but likely not how you'd expect. Something you will ABSOLUTELY expect, a tawdry game of FMK with Disney princes and princesses. This is our chance to get freaky with our childhood crushes.

Become a Fandy... wait what? A FANDY?

Yes, a Fandy. Like what we do? Want to make sure we can keep doing it and pay our fabulous producing team to keep the lights on? Then we need your help to do it. Just visit the MandCave to learn more and sign up today. You'll get episodes a early, access to our brand new MandCave channels in the TruStory Discord server, and — in all seriousness — our deepest thanks.

Schmigamandys Aug 02, 2021

Show notes

It’s not all a love fest when the Mandys cross the bridge to Schmigadoon. The music may be fun, the stepping high, but where the story really hits home is in the relationships. And so, The Mandys sidle up to the latest Apple TV+ series and — surprising no one at all — they disagree.

The Mandys Make No Sudden Move Jul 12, 2021

Show notes

The Mandys can't hear movies anymore. Whether it's because of main cast mumbling or not being able to turn off the voice overs, movies appear to be ruined forever. It's possible that this is Steven Soderbergh's fault.

Also, Mandy reads inappropriate books to children while Mandy finally dives into Smartless for the hot celeb goss.

The Mandys are Hacks Jul 05, 2021

Show notes

The Mandys take on the oft recommended HBOMax series 'Hacks' this week. Jean Smart leads a divine cast, but how does this comedy about two women in comedy hit these two women in comedy? Don't worry. You'll know. Give it three minutes and you'll know. And then come the JOKES!

Mandy is having a full family affair with Justin Willman of Magic for Humans while Mandy reads The Paris Wife with great titillated delight.

The Mandys have Daddy Issues Jun 28, 2021

Show notes

It's Father's Day around these parts and the Mandys have decided to celebrate by watching the latest Kevin Hart laugh-fest, 'Fatherhood.' Wait... what is this? Why?? Why are there SO MANY TEARS, KEVIN HART‽ Why have you made your Kevin Hart comedy so SAD? Also, Mandy rediscovered a pandemic-closed musical and Mandy is digging into season two of Chameleon.

In The Mandys Jun 21, 2021

Show notes

The Mandys head to New York to hang with Usnavi and the crew at the bodega. How well do they get along with Lin Manuel’s latest cinematic adventure? Let’s put it this way: Chu is a fantastic filmmaker. For the rest, you’ll have to listen to the show!
