    485 || motivation || a personal one Jun 13, 2022
    Show notes

    Motivational Monday: hotcake alert - this episode gets a bit sappy.

    i spent my life workin' harder, not smarter. Doing a ton of motion without any movement. Seemingly to prove that I deserved success when I reached it but now that I'm here, I am questioning who I was proving that to + why I was in such a hurry to do so. I thought I was playing catchup on "wasted time" from a traumatic childhood or lack of certain luxury - but when I get real, it's clear that there was no such thing as 'wasted time' because now I have wisdom, experience, and gratitude for the basics.

    I am inspired for the first time in my WHOLE DAMNED LIFE because of YOU. So, if ya lack motivation - look in the mirror. You're amazing for simply showing up.

    484 || suggestion || how to share hot gossip Jun 12, 2022
    Show notes

    Suggestion Sunday: Gossip is good for ya, actually. According to science, 60% of our conversations involve gossip of some sort + we begin gossiping for social relationships by the age of 5. That said, our reasonings can vary + change the impact of our gossip tremendously, as a result. There's a fine line between venting + ruining reputations.

    How to gossip better:

    1. Why am I sharing this now? To potentially to protect someone? or to make a deeper connection with someone? or are you venting? or stirring the pot? jealous? hurt? angry? bored? But if you're spreading this just to be a dick? Don't. People will see through it eventually + lose trust for you.
    2. Is this true, + is it okay for you to share? It's not cool to betray someone's trust, just to sound like you 'know some shit about some shit' or whatever.
    3. What is the best case scenario from sharing this? Worst case scenario? Who will be affected? Anyone? How so?

    Check out our instagram for a bonus suggestion on how to get out of gossip-y conversations you'd rather not be in. Tune in there or on youtube.com/juliemerica to check it out!

    Please rate this 5 stars on apple podcasts if you haven't already. If can share this with a friend (or enemy) that you think would benefit from it, that would truly be a game changer. 483 || an amateur gossip move Jun 11, 2022
    Show notes

    Gossip is a weird topic for me - because we all do it, to some extent and with a bit of tact it can be a cathartic + acceptable release of steam, but it's a very fine line before you become mean, petty, angry, and simply serve to rile yourself up more.

    Not to mention, the real life impact we have on the people we are shit talkin'.

    This scatterbrain Saturday, I share a personal story where I let some venting slip to a person who was... not the best choice, and ended up having to backtrack. Luckily, we learned a few lessons along the way.

    Hope today is magic, just like you!

    481 || psyched || how to overcome guilt Jun 09, 2022
    Show notes

    guilt is a signal you care. that's not a bad thing. but don't let it consume ya.

    guilt can be a productive reflection tool - if we take it as a learning opportunity, but it can easily spiral into a toxic cycle of intense undeserved remorse. Ask yourself: is this my guilt to carry? what is making me feel guilty? is it within my control to make amends? have I taken accountability to ensure I won't make the same mistake again in the future? what more can I do? what would happen if I set down the guilt for a while?

    477 || strategies || time savers (that actually work) Jun 05, 2022
    Show notes

    How to limit your time wasters:

    Social

    • Take advantage of voice-to-text features such as transcribed voicemails or to make notes or draft emails and text messages when you are on the go.
    • Avoid small talk. Stay focused.
    • Take any necessary action immediately following a call.
    • Impose screen time limits and regularly monitor your digital wellness (see Strategy 10).
    • Schedule breaks from your devices.

    Email

    • Set aside a specific time to view and respond to email, but don’t let it accumulate to the point it becomes overwhelming to sort.
    • Turn off notifications for email.
    • Handle each item only once if possible.
    • Immediately delete or unsubscribe from junk emails.
    • Keep address books up-to-date and organized.
    • Utilize built-in shortcuts to sort email.

    Unexpected Visitors

    • Schedule time for face-to-face visits.
    • Inform visitors of your time constraints and politely offer to reschedule.
    • Set a mutually agreeable time limit for the visit.
    • When someone comes to the door, stand up and have your meeting standing to help keep it brief.

    In-Person and Virtual Meetings

    • Know the purpose of the meeting in advance.
    • Arrive early.
    • Start and end the meeting on time.
    • Prepare an agenda and stick to it. Use a timed agenda, if necessary.
    • Don’t schedule meetings unless they are necessary and have a specific purpose or agenda.
    • Use recording software or designate a note-taker.

    Family Obligations

    • Use and sync virtual calendars for easy sharing between busy family members.
    • Make each family member responsible for consulting the master calendar for potential conflicts.

    • Create a central area or agreed upon app for posting communications such as appointment reminders, announcements, and messages.
