What the WCC's latest scheduling decision means for the future of the Gonzaga Bulldogs Jun 29, 2022

Show notes

The WCC voted against adding two more conference games, a big win for Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Does this mean the Zags are staying in the WCC long-term, or could they still look to pursue a move to the Mountain West or even the Big East?

Today's episode also discusses the latest rumored addition to the non-conference schedule, a game against Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans on an aircraft carrier in San Diego, and discusses the non-conference schedule as a whole with a handful of games remaining.

Finally, we discuss the dream scenario to finish out Gonzaga's non-conference schedule, including adding teams like Arizona, Boise State, Washington State, and SeattleU.

Are the criticisms of Gonzaga Bulldogs coach Mark Few fair, and will he make adjustments? Jun 27, 2022

Show notes

Mark Few frequently draws criticism for how he coaches the Gonzaga Bulldogs, specifically regarding rotations, in-game adjustments, and the inability for his team's to win it all or handle physicality. Are those concerns justified, and will fans in Spokane see the coach making any adjustments heading into the 2022-2023 season?

Today is mailbag Monday, and discussing Gonzaga's lineup concerns is just one of many topics covered, including:

Making a lineup of Zags who left early for the NBA draft
Favorite NBA draft sleeper
Odds of Joel Ayayi or Jamaree Bouyea sticking in the NBA?
Which Zag in the NBA will win a championship next?
Will the Women's team earn a Top 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament?
The Truong Twins and their trip to Vietnam

2022 NBA draft analysis on Gonzaga Bulldogs stars Chet Holmgren and Andrew Nembhard Jun 24, 2022

Show notes

The 2022 NBA draft saw two Gonzaga Bulldogs, Chet Holmgren and Andrew Nembhard, find new homes with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers at No. 2 and No. 31, respectively. Mark Few has now head 17 players selected during his tenure in Spokane, and Holmgren became the highest Zag selected - passing Adam Morrison from 2006.

Today's episode is a discussion about Holmgren's fit in Oklahoma City and Nembhard's fit in Indiana, as well as a look at what the NBA draft analysts thought of each pick. Will Chet thrive alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey in OKC? Is Nembhard going to carve out a role as a true point guard in Indiana?

We end the show, and the week, discussing the other WCC player to get selected - Santa Clara guard Jalen Williams who went No. 12 to Oklahoma City. It may have been a bit of a reach, but Williams has the length and shooting ability to be a great NBA player. We also discuss Jamaree Bouyea who signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent, and Tommy Kuhse who will play for Orlando in the summer league.

Could we see a national title rematch between the Gonzaga Bulldogs and North Carolina Tar Heels? Jun 23, 2022

Show notes

The Gonzaga Bulldogs and the North Carolina Tar Heels have been two of college basketball's most elite programs over the past two decades. Mark Few and Roy Williams are two of the best coaches to ever do it, and all Hubert Davis did in his first season in Chapel Hill was lead his team within three points of a national championship.

Joining me on today's episode is Isaac Shade of the Locked on Tar Heels podcast. We discuss the return of Drew Timme and Armando Bacot, some starting lineup guesses for each program, the legacy of all the coaches for these two schools, and we break down the Pete Nance commitment - live on the show!

Previewing Gonzaga's Pac-12 opponents, and why year two might be a tough one for Tommy Lloyd Jun 21, 2022

Show notes

The Gonzaga Bulldogs just have one game officially on the calendar against a Pac-12 school next season, Mike Hopkins' Washington Huskies, but they could play a few more depending how the bracket shakes out in the Phil Knight Invitational. Spencer McLaughlin of Locked on Pac-12 joins the show to preview UW and to talk about Oregon and Oregon State who will be in Portland for the PK85.

The pair also discuss Tommy Lloyd's tough task heading into next season, needing to replace Benn Mathurin, Christian Koloko and Dalen Terry from an exceptional Arizona squad, and talk about Dana Altman's squad at Oregon as well.

Finally, the pair also dig into WCC hoops as well and talk about Todd Golden's departure to Florida, and how Santa Clara - led by future NBA guard Jalen Williams - had a real chance to make the NCAA Tournament last season if injuries didn't impact them early in the year.

Predicting landing spots for Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren and Andrew Nembhard in the 2022 NBA draft Jun 17, 2022

Show notes

The 2022 NBA draft is right around the corner and a pair of Gonzaga Bulldogs, Chet Holmgren and Andrew Nembhard, are expected to be selected. We gathered the industry's brightest mock drafts together and discussed potential landing spots for both Chet and Andrew in today's episode. Does Holmgren really prefer Oklahoma City over Orlando? Could Nembhard end up playing for the defending champion Golden State Warriors?

We end the show, and the week, listening to a conversation by KREM's Brenna Greene with CBS Sports analyst Gary Parrish, discussing potential starting lineups for the Zags as well as NIL's impact on the game and why Gonzaga still gets so much hate.

Previewing San Francisco and discussing Mark Few and Gonzaga's coaching tree with Kyle Bankhead Jun 16, 2022

Show notes

Mark Few's legacy extends far beyond Spokane and the Gonzaga Bulldogs, as his program has produced a litany of extremely talented coaches, including Boise State's Leon Rice, Colorado's Bill Grier, and of course Arizona's Tommy Lloyd. That does not include former players who have joined the coaching ranks, a lengthy list that includes Kyle Bankhead, who is now an assistant coach at the University of San Francisco in the WCC.

Bankhead joins the show today to discuss Few's legacy as a head coach, as well as Kyle's own journey from a player in Spokane to an assistant coach under Grier at USD and multiple other stops along the way, until his return just this month to Chris Gurlefson's staff at San Francisco.

Andy and Kyle also discuss new changes in college hoops, namely the transfer portal and new NIL laws, and what impact that has had on the game and where the future might be headed.

Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. Michigan State Spartans on an aircraft carrier, reckless or innovative? Jun 15, 2022

Show notes

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are in advanced discussions with Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans to potentially play a non-conference game on an airplane hangar in San Diego on Veteran's Day. Fun way to help engage fans in college basketball before March Madness, or potentially disastrous gimmick?

Today's episode discusses the latest scheduling rumors, while also discussing the potential vote in the WCC to expand the number of conference games, which is bad news for the Zags.

Plus we grade listener submitted hot takes about Drew Timme's future and the number of three pointers this team will average next season, and we hear from the Truong twins about their recent trip to Vietnam.
