Why Braeden Smith is IDEAL final piece for Gonzaga Bulldogs in Transfer Portal | Chet loses ROY race May 08, 2024

Show notes

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are reportedly in contact with transfer guard Braeden Smith - not the Purdue star but rather a high level distributor from Colgate. Smith played high school ball at Seattle Prep and was a candidate for National Freshman of the Year in 2023 and won Patriot League Player of the Year in 2024, and with two years of eligibility remaining he could step into a starting role for the Zags as a senior once Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, and Khalif Battle run out of eligibility.

Lisa Fortier and the Zag women's team added a big time transfer in point guard Tayla Dalton, who started 82 games over the past four years with the Saint Mary's Gaels. Dalton is from New Zealand and will pair nicely with incoming freshman Lauren Whittaker and new UConn transfer Ines Bettencourt.

We close the show discussing Chet Holmgren finishing second in NBA Rookie of the Year voting to Victor Wembanyama, Jalen Suggs and Orlando getting eliminated from the playoffs, and Andrew Nembhard's remarkable 32:5 A:TO ratio during the playoffs.

What will Khalif Battle's role be for Gonzaga Bulldogs? | Anton Watson SNUBBED from draft combine! May 07, 2024

Show notes

Khalif Battle picked Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs over Kansas State and Villanova, but will the former Arkansas guard be willing to come off the bench? And is that the right role for the high scoring 6'5 star?

What else do the Zags need to do to be a national championship caliber team? Consistent outside shooting and low post defense are the big keys - can they do that with the personnel they have?

We close the show discussing Anton Watson getting invited to the NBA G-League combine - not the draft combine - and whether that was a snub or not.

Khalif Battle COMMITS to Gonzaga Bulldogs! How does he fit? | The Zags aren't done yet! May 06, 2024

Show notes

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs secured a commitment Arkansas guard Khalif Battle this weekend, who picked the Zags over Villanova and Kansas State. Battle averaged 29.6 points over his final seven games with the Hogs, and his experience coming off the bench makes him a perfect third guard for this program.

Battle will likely play a lot of minutes alongside Nolan Hickman and Ryan Nembhard, shifting Michael Ajayi into a small ball four role and hurting the minutes for Steele Venters and Dusty Stromer. Still, this nine-man rotation is as good as any in college basketball as this team looks to get over the hump and win a national title.

Ben Gregg a testament to Gonzaga's ELITE player development! | NBA future? | Nembhard leads Pacers May 03, 2024

Show notes

Gonzaga Bulldogs forward Ben Gregg was inserted into the starting lineup by Mark Few and blossomed into a key piece for the Zags as they ultimately went to a ninth straight Sweet 16 last season. Gregg's development has been a big part of Gonzaga's success the past few seasons, and he'll once again fill a valuable role for the Bulldogs as the starting power forward next year alongside Graham Ike and Michael Ajayi.

What does Gregg need to do to get attention from NBA scouts? Can he shoot 65% on two pointers, 40% from three, and display solid defense? If so, he could get looks the way Killian Tillie did, although Gregg has a much cleaner bill of health.

We close out the show discussing Andrew Nembhard leading the Indiana Pacers past the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Playoffs and the Zag Baseball team needing to right the ship this weekend in Stockton against Pacific.

Khalif Battle is PERFECT final piece for the Gonzaga Bulldogs | Transfer Portal is closed, now what? May 02, 2024

Show notes

The Gonzaga Bulldogs will host Arkansas guard Khalif Battle on a visit this weekend, with Mark Few hoping to land the high-scoring veteran guard in his final season of college basketball eligibility. Battle averaged 29.6 points over his final seven games with the Hogs, and he'd be a perfect third guard off the bench for this program.

The transfer portal is now closed and Gonzaga kept the majority of their core around, and a team photo posted right at the deadline showed this team's camaraderie and togetherness, a rarity in the modern era. What is left for this team over the offseason? Michael Ajayi is in the NBA draft process, but otherwise it's just filling a few scholarship spots.

We close out the show discussing Chet Holgmren and Julian Strawther each advancing to the conference semifinals of the NBA playoffs, while Rui Hachimura and the Lakers are eliminated and Jalen Suggs and Andrew Nembhard face 3-2 deficits for Orlando and Indiana, respectively.

Luka Krajnovic reportedly enters NCAA transfer portal, what does it mean for the Gonzaga Bulldogs? May 01, 2024

Show notes

Luka Krajnovic reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal one day before it closes, leaving Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs without a backup point guard and with another open scholarship. Krajnovic showed promise down the stretch last season, and could opt to return to Croatia and play professionally or find another school to continue his education and likely land a bigger role on the court.

Losing Krajnovic makes adding another guard even more important for the Zags, and we discuss five young guard options the team could pursue - including incoming freshmen Nolan Traore and Trent Perry and transfers Wesley Yates, Emmanuel Innocenti, and Rowan Brumbaugh.

We close out the show discussing other outside the box transfer options for the Zags, including Tyler Harris and Juanse Gorosito from Portland, Roger McFarlane from SE Louisiana, Kasean Pryor from South Florida, and even Bronny James.

Aidan Mahaney joins UConn Huskies, will face Gonzaga Bulldogs again | Lady Zags add UConn transfer! Apr 30, 2024

Show notes

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs will face Danny Hurley and the back-to-back national champion UConn Huskies at Madison Square Garden in December - and they will have a familiar face in the backcourt in former Saint Mary's guard Aidan Mahaney. Mahaney committed to UConn over Creighton, Virginia, and Kentucky, but we wonder if a new offense will allow Mahaney to thrive or if it will be a challenge for the rising junior.

We also discuss Lisa Fortier and the Zag women adding a new player in UConn transfer Ines Bettencourt, a 5'7 guard from Portugal who played very sparingly for the Huskies the past two seasons. However, the Zags have a bunch of holes to fill in the backcourt, and Bettencourt could be a sneaky breakout star. Plus, Calli Stokes explains her decision to enter the transfer portal, citing a concussion which has led her to the decision to end her basketball playing career.

We close out the show discussing Andrew Nembhard's prolific performance so far for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Playoffs.

Which guard target is BEST FIT for the Gonzaga Bulldogs? | Will Zags-UW series continue? | Mailbag! Apr 29, 2024

Show notes

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are in the hunt to complete their roster ahead of the 2024-25 college basketball season, and are looking at quite a few young guards either in the transfer portal or on the recruiting trail. We discuss the five top options, including Nolan Traore, Travis Perry, Wesley Yates, Rowan Brumbaugh and Emmanuel Innocenti.

Today is also Mailbag Monday and we discuss if Gonzaga and Washington will continue their series with Danny Sprinkle taking over for the Huskies, which WCC team might be a surprise contender alongside the Zags, which teams from each Power Conference I'd like to see Gonzaga schedule a home-and-home with, and comparing Chet Holmgren to incoming Duke freshman Cooper Flagg.

Why Emmanuel Innocenti is PERFECT target for Gonzaga Bulldogs! | Pavle Stosic enters transfer portal Apr 26, 2024

Show notes

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs have reportedly reached out to Tarleton State transfer Emmanuel Innocenti, a 6'5 wing from Italy who averaged 6.6 points, 6.4 boards, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 steals last year in the WAC. With three years of college basketball eligibility remaining, could Innocenti be a developmental guard for the Zags?

Gonzaga lost their first scholarship player to the transfer portal in Pavle Stosic, the Serbian big man who played 46 total minutes after joining the team in late-September last offseason. Stosic was unlikely to see much playing time as a sophomore, and opts instead to find somewhere where he can develop on the court.

We close the show discussing the four Zags in the NBA Playoffs, three who had 20 point games last week in Andrew Nembhard, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Suggs, and one who is struggling in Rui Hachimura.

Nolan Hickman is Gonzaga's unheralded star! Does the Zags senior guard have an NBA future? Apr 25, 2024

Show notes

Gonzaga Bulldogs guard Nolan Hickman broke out as a junior this past college basketball season, averaging a career-high 14 points per game while shooting over 40% from three. He adjusted seamlessly to a shooting guard role, making room for Ryan Nembhard to step in and lead Mark Few's offense.

Hickman's ability to play alongside Nembhard helped Gonzaga on both ends of the floor, and he scored in double figures 28 times in what was a hugely critical and largely underappreciated junior year for the Seattle native.

Hickman will finally keep the same role for a second straight year heading into his senior season, what could his final year as a Zag entail? And will he get looks in the 2025 NBA draft?
