In the first game of the season, the Nets really never got started. Kevin Durant was able to pour in some scoring when he finally got started, but the rest of the team (and even KD early) really struggled in this matchup against the Pelicans. They had no real answer for Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas down low and the Pelicans were able to do almost everything they wanted. Ben Simmons fouled out with just two points, five assists, and five rebounds and there weren’t a ton of positives here. The Nets took on the Bucks on Wednesday in their third preseason game and it was the first real extended look at what the combination of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Ben Simmons can look like. It was more than impressive. The team looked totally locked in on both ends of the court with Simmons facilitating the offense in a way we haven’t really seen before with Brooklyn of late. He finished with 7 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Kevin Durant finished with 19 points and Kyrie Irving put in 23 of his own.
