The Brooklyn Nets dropped a bomb on Tuesday with the announcement that Kyrie Irving wouldn’t be part of the team this season unless he was deemed eligible for full activities after being vaccinated. It was a pretty stunning move by Brooklyn all things considered and calls into question how this season now plays out for the team. Sean Marks released a statement about the move and then did a follow-up press conference explaining the decision.

The Nets ultimately did not want to have Kyrie Irving around in a part-time fashion and now it will be interesting to see how their superstar reacts to the decision. The Locked on Nets guys break down the move by Brooklyn, the quote from Sean Marks, and what the future holds for the team.

Kevin Durant shines, but Nets look incredibly sloppy in loss to Sixers Oct 12, 2021

The Locked on Nets guys are on the podcast directly following the third preseason game for Brooklyn, this one a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. It was a very sloppy game for the Nets who ended up with 26 turnovers when it was all said and done. It was tough to watch at times. One of the bright spots was the play of Kevin Durant who finished with 23 points on 9-13 shooting in his 26 minutes.

But there was plenty to get discouraged about. James Harden continues to look a bit rusty, though he was able to get into some vintage parts of his game. And in general, the Nets had no answer for Joel Embiid early in the game. The guys break down the game all around including the play of Paul Millsap, Bruce Brown, and some others on a packed podcast.

There was a little rust for sure in both of these games and the Nets offense, at times, struggled to get things going. The guys are worried about the performance at all though. There were some things to take away from this game, especially around the early rotations that saw Patty Mills predictably come in as the sixth man and some other veterans coming in shortly after. On Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst of ESPN published a story that basically said those within the Nets’ front office were losing patience around Kyrie’s inability to take the court in New York because of his vaccination status. It was a clear message from Nets’ brass about the situation and very uncharacteristic of the team to message through the media like this.

With practice resuming for the Brooklyn Nets back in New York, Kyrie Irving wasn’t in attendance with Irving not able to participate due to his vaccination status. It is looking like this will be an ongoing question mark for Irving as the regular season approaches. While there is some chance it is settled prior to their regular-season home debut, that is looking increasingly unlikely.

The guys talk about what this means for the team as the season draws closer and how they might have the depth to deal with it in the short term. The guys also look at DeAndre Bembry who started for the Nets in the first preseason game. His non-guaranteed contract is an interesting wrinkle for this roster. They also look at some of the guard depth behind Irving if the latter can’t play.
