    Show notes

The Nets took the court with the absolute B-Team on Tuesday night and ended up getting completely crushed by the Boston Celtics. Expectations for this one were pretty low with roughly $140 million dollars worth of player salary out of the game for Brooklyn. They got down 28-2 early and the starters managed only 21 points total over the course of the game. The guys discuss some of the lowlights of the affair.

And then they talk about the James Harden situation and if there was anything new to be gleaned from Tuesday’s reporting on the possible trade to the Philadelphia 76ers. There were a few interesting nuggets that came out over the course of the day.

James Harden and the Brooklyn Nets. What the heck is going on here? Feb 08, 2022
    Show notes

The Locked on Nets guys are back on the podcast talking about what else, the James Harden situation in Brooklyn. Rumors continue to swirl around what will happen with Harden in regards to some reporting that the Philadelphia 76ers would like to acquire him in some sort of Ben Simmons-centered deal. And while the Nets have seemingly been definitive in their stance that they aren’t trading Harden, various reporting pieces seem to suggest otherwise. It feels like it is at least on the table.

The guys try to look at the situation from all angles, put together some pieces of reporting, and discuss how we got to this place. Plus they ask the question - if James Harden doesn’t get traded how does the rest of this season even play out?

Then Doug jumps back on after the game to talk about Steve Nash’s pregame comments about a James Harden trade as well as the team losing its 8th-straight loss, dropping them to 7th in the standings in the Eastern Conference.

Joe Harris injury setback? And is this team not built for James Harden Feb 04, 2022
    Show notes

The Locked on Nets guys are back for a Friday episode talking everything happening in Brooklyn right now. They start off with the latest report around Joe Harris and that there could be a potential setback with the ankle injury. There now stands some chance that he will need a second procedure which could really push back the timeline, maybe even losing him for the season.

And then they discuss James Harden’s last game and the efficiency numbers with him on the court this season. They take something of a comparative look around what Harden has done versus how Kyrie Irving has performed since coming back into the mix. It’s all here on a packed Friday podcast.

James Harden sleepwalks and Nets lose a terrible game to the Kings Feb 03, 2022
    Show notes

Things just keep getting worse for the Nets who lost their sixth-straight game, this one to the lowly Sacramento Kings. Despite leading by double-digits, Brooklyn barely came out of the locker room for the second half and scored only 39 points over the last two frames. They ended up losing by 11 in a pretty embarrassing effort all things considered.

James Harden had his worst game as a Brooklyn Net, scoring four points while turning the ball over six times in his 37 minutes. He looked disengaged almost throughout and the Nets got trounced in the minutes he was on the court. It was a tough watch and the Locked on Nets break it all down while trying to figure out who/what is to blame here. They discuss the play of the superstars while also highlighting the missed opportunity in the game the Nets got out of Nic Claxton. There’s talk about Steve Nash, management, roster construction, and basic failings all the way down the chain.

Nets lose fifth straight, this one to Suns in a tough game on the road Feb 02, 2022
    Show notes

The Nets continued through a rough patch for the team with their fifth-straight loss. This time it was to the Phoenix Suns on the road. Brooklyn got James Harden back for this one and we continue to see why the Harden/ Kyrie Irving pairing can really work. But they weren’t able to overcome a number of different things in this one. They struggled, at times, to contain Phoenix on defense with the Suns and Chris Paul picking them apart in different sequences. And the Nets had some questionable calls go against them as well.

But Brooklyn didn’t help themselves either, with a string of very bad fouls that showed a lack of discipline at varying times. In all, they lose 121-111 in a game the Nets kept fighting back during, but ultimately couldn’t pull it out.

Should Steve Nash be on the coaching hot seat right now in Brooklyn? Feb 01, 2022
    Show notes

After the loss to the Warriors on Friday, there was a decent amount of criticism leveled at coach Steve Nash for some late-game decisions. But is Nash on the hot seat right now? Should he be? The Locked on Nets guys break down this question and take a look at Nash’s tenure in Brooklyn over the first season and a half. It’s been a bumpy ride, but are a lot of the struggles even Nash’s fault, or things he had any control over? Plus, the guys look at examples of Hall of Fame players jumping right into head coaching positions over the years to see if there are comps out there.

Then, the guys look at some of the rookie performances so far this season and how some of these guys factor into the long-range planning for Brooklyn

Kyrie Irving is masterful, but Steve Nash doesn't challenge late and Nets lose Jan 31, 2022
    Show notes

The Locked on Nets are coming at you following a loss to the Warriors on Saturday night in a game that was both hopeful and frustrating. On the one hand, you had the performance from Kyrie Irving who has had no issue working right back into the mix, scoring 32 points while adding seven assists and rebounds each. And then there was Patty Mills who dropped 24 of his own. The Nets erased a double-digit lead in the second half to rally make this a game.

But things got tight late and there were some key sequences that really defined this game for the Nets. One of the major ones was Steve Nash not challenging a foul call late that could have swung the game for the Nets. The guys discuss it all including big games from Kyrie, Nash’s late-game decisions, injury issues, and more.

No James Harden, but Cam Thomas and crew nearly pull one out against Denver Jan 27, 2022
    Show notes

The Nets were on the second half of the back-to-back on Wednesday and had to play this one without James Harden who sat because of hamstring tightness. The skeleton crew for Brooklyn put up a great fight against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, but it wasn’t enough. Even with Cam Thomas getting hot off the bench, finishing with 25 points, it wasn’t enough and Brooklyn lost their third in a row and 10th in their last 16 games.

Doug Norrie goes through some of the game with performances that you could find encouraging as well as a strong first half from Brooklyn that saw them leading at halftime. But they struggled to score late and had a few key things not go their way down the stretch. Is there reason to panic in Brooklyn?
