    016. "How I broke my soda habit": Jeff May 02, 2021
    Show notes

As a child and into his early twenties, Jeff Gerken drank so much soda that he says he was addicted to it. He also drank juice and chocolate milk - not water.

Even though he was doing a lot of sports and running, his weight crept up until he was obese in his 20s and 30s. At first, he thought he needed to do more exercise. Then when he was in his 40s, he realized that he needed to change his diet too.

And he made the connection between the "liquid empty calories" he was drinking (soda) and his weight gain. Listen to his inspiring story of how he changed the habit of a lifetime.

    013. "I used to taste addiction. Now I taste food": Graeme Apr 11, 2021
    Show notes

Graeme lost over 130lbs thanks to cutting sugar and fast food and practising intermittent fasting. The author of "The Fasting Highway" as well as the host of a podcast with the same name, Graeme is an inspiring example of putting his health and well-being first.

As a consumer, he learned to read food labels (and to choose foods that don't have labels!) and to become aware of all the hidden sugars. He had to make a huge mindset shift with his relationship to food, but that effort was worth it for all the health benefits that he got.

For Graeme, intermittent fasting is a sustainable way of life, and so is being at a healthy weight and feeling great!

    012. Gentle rant: Stop telling me to eat sugar "in moderation"! Apr 04, 2021
    Show notes

Here's something that really annoys me: How other people perceive my life after sugar! I mean, I’m just happier with zero sugar and flour. But I kept getting comments like “You need to let go a little”, “Come on! One bite won’t hurt you!”, “Relax and have a little fun!”... etc.

I got so tired of them that I made this podcast episode about it!

It feels like people aren't even listening to me when I tell them how great I feel living sugar free. They still ask me why I do it, or tell me to have just a little bit. Or to eat sugar "in moderation", as a treat from time to time. I'm no psychologist, but I think it's a type of projection. Actually, for some people, like me and maybe you, it's actually easier and more freeing to abstain than to moderate with sugar. And being told to go against our natural personality is, well, annoying and counter-productive. So here's my gentle rant about it.

    011. "My life is so much better now": David Mar 28, 2021
    Show notes

David took ADHD medication for over 25 years, since the first grade. The meds suppressed his appetite and had other side effects for his behaviour. When he stopped sugar, grains, caffeine, and alcohol he was able to heal and has been med-free for two years. Now he has level energy all day, he doesn't live "on high alert" any more, he no longer has cravings, he has better self-esteem. He got his life back. He has a like-minded community. And now he feels free.

    010. "Sugar was taking me down": Tracy Mar 21, 2021
    Show notes

Tracy was a pro at denying herself and then bingeing on sugar and sugary foods. She had also tried so many diets and detoxes. And it all came from a low sense of self-worth. Sugar was her comfort, but at the same time it was making her sick and down on herself. But now at 50 she has been sugar free for over 200 days (and counting!), and has never felt better or more confident and healthy. Such an inspiration!

And guess what certainly doesn't help your digestion? Yep! Sugar. It turns out that less sugar and even less fibre helped my sluggish digestion. And also adding fermented foods and drinks to my daily diet. I learned how to make yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut and fermented vegetables - and you can too!
