Questions I've been asked about poses over the past decade Nov 10, 2020
    Show notes

I’m back with a solo episode answering the most commonly asked asana questions over the past (almost) a decade of teaching yoga.

While most of you know me through my guest interviews, I actually teach a lot of asana at my yoga studio. It’s not every day that you see an Indian immigrant yoga teacher talking about the physical practice of yoga, is it? Somehow that’s often been left to my white counterparts…many of whom are brilliant at what they do. But I did this episode as I know there are so many teachers out there who would have gotten the same questions as I have over the years.

The Science of a Private Lesson with Francesca Cervero Oct 06, 2020
    Show notes

My guest this week wears many hats. She's a yoga teacher, podcaster, teacher trainer, mentor, and more. Francesca Cervero & I discuss how during this unprecedented time for the world & yoga studios, yoga teachers need to understand the potential of getting private clients to stick. As yoga studios are closing every week across the globe. In the years ahead, there will be lesser opportunities to get employed as new yoga teachers & make it progressively harder. That's why this conversation today is gold!
Francesca runs a teacher training called, "the science of a private lesson". Which makes her an ideal guest for this subject. She pulls from over 15 years of experience & shares what current yoga teachers need to learn & understand about why setting up as a private yoga teacher has more value now than ever before and how we go about it.
You'll find actionable steps, set up costs, how to price yourself, how to market and more in this conversation. Happy listening!

Why Yoga Nidra is not about sleep with Indu Arora Sep 22, 2020
    Show notes

Every once in awhile I come across a yoga teacher who just exemplifies yogic wisdom and embodies the practice. Indu Arora is one such teacher. She was introduced to yoga at the age of 4 in India and has made it her life's practice since. Today, she's authored yoga books, is a teacher that other yoga teachers go to and brings her wisdom to yoga & Ayurveda through many of her offerings.
We met in the Minneapolis Yoga conference a few years ago and I was instantly drawn to the 'only other Indian yoga teacher' on schedule. I just happened to attend her yoga nidra session. That's what we talk about today. All things yoga nidra.
Here are some of the episode highlights...

    • Indu's origin story
    • What is yoga nidra? Is it different from shavasana?
    • Who is it for? Can children do yoga nidra?
    • What are the benefits of yoga nidra?
    • The origins of the practice
    • What is the definition of rest?
    • What is sankalpa and how to choose one?
    • How often to practice it? What is the best time of the day?
    • How to access the practice today? What are some credible sources?
    • Indu's new book

Honestly, I wish I had another hour to interview her about Yoga Nidra! There's so much wisdom she packs into this. I've also linked to a free resource in the show notes for this episode where you can try yoga Nidra for free.
If you enjoyed this episode, it would really help us if you left us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts. Happy listening!

Indian men & American yoga studios with Ashish Arora Sep 15, 2020
    Show notes

When was the last time you saw an Indian man doing yoga in an American yoga studio? Chances are - you've rarely seen this. Have you ever wondered why?
In this episode, I chat with Ashish Arora. An Indian yoga teacher, who left behind a 6-figure corporate life at almost 40 to transition into teaching yoga as a full-time career. We chat about his life, understand his story, and learn about the way Indian men or boys are raised when it comes to choosing a career.
We also look at the yoga side in depth - the salary of yoga teachers, why Indian men don't come to American yoga studios & if there's anything we as yoga teachers can do to make our spaces more inclusive to Indian men.
