    Keep What You Earn

Keep What You Earn is the podcast for aesthetics and wellness practice owners who want to scale profitably and build a business that is actually worth something.

Hosted by Shannon Weinstein, CPA and Fractional CFO, this show is designed for med spa owners generating $1–5M in revenue who are ready to move beyond reactive decision-making and into disciplined, strategic growth.

If you’re trying to break past the $2M ceiling, improve cash flow predictability, increase margins, open additional locations, or prepare your practice for a future sale, this podcast gives you the financial clarity to do it confidently.

Each episode focuses on the financial building blocks that determine whether your practice scales smoothly or stalls under pressure, including pricing discipline, operating margin control, cash flow forecasting, customer lifetime value, and enterprise value planning. This isn’t about more spreadsheets. It’s about financial leadership.

Whether you’re preparing for expansion or positioning your practice to sell, Keep What You Earn helps you think like a CFO and operate like a CEO.

How to Ask Better Questions Nov 14, 2022
    Show notes

It can be hard to know how to ask a question in various Facebook groups or forums you may be a part of. My biggest tip is to start by asking "who can help me with XYZ?" and find the person who can answer your question before you ask it. When you're asking a question the goal is to be as clear and closed-ended as possible to make it easy for someone to answer you quickly. When answering others' questions, don't write a dissertation back if they haven't been clear, ask a few clarifying questions first.

Riches Aren't Always in Niches Nov 11, 2022
    Show notes

We've all heard the saying "riches are found in niches," and while I don't entirely disagree, I think it can easily be misunderstood. If you think that niching down will automatically allow you to command a higher price point, I disagree simply because not every niche has purchasing power. The power of niching down comes in serving a client base that is ready to pay a higher price point for the service you are offering, having specialization in your offering can help with this.

What Does a Fractional CFO Do? Nov 09, 2022
    Show notes

I often get asked, "What does a CFO do??". My short answer is typically that they turn data into decisions. The full answer is a much longer conversation. A Chief Financial Officer is the next step after you have solid bookkeeping in place and you have a tax pro helping you stay compliant. The CFO can then take that data and help you reach your business goals. Kind of like a business coach but powered by data and numbers. If you want to start strategizing your business finances, this is for you. A CFO can help take your business to the next level by providing feedback, having hard conversations, answering your questions about various purchases and investments, and ultimately keeping you on track toward your goals!

Wealth-building Wisdom with Mel Abraham Nov 08, 2022
    Show notes

Mel is a CPA, author of the #1 Bestseller, The Entrepreneur's Solution: The Modern Millionaire's Path to More Profit, Fans & Freedom, and the founder of Thoughtpreneur TM Academy & Business Breakthrough Academy where he helps entrepreneurs bring their businesses to the world and build the lifestyle that they want.

Our conversation is packed with wealth-building wisdom for entrepreneurs. We often see two common problems with entrepreneurs. The first is when you let the world get in the way of your dreams, now's the time to dream big! The second is investing all of your time and energy into your business and forgetting to live life! After all, money only matters to the extent that it increases your quality of life. Your business is not the source of your wealth, it's a resource to live a wealthy, full, and enriched life. Financial freedom doesn't lie in working all the time, it comes from making your money work for you. * Follow Mel on IG @melabraham9 * Listen to The Affluent Entrepreneur Show * Listen to The Top 10 Psychological and Emotional Triggers That Scammers Use

My Advice on Going After Something BIG Nov 07, 2022
    Show notes

One thing that surprises me about being in the world of entrepreneurship is how risk-averse entrepreneurs can be. As entrepreneurs, we've accepted the inherent risk that comes with owning our own business, but many folks are still playing small. Many entrepreneurs are risk-averse in the sense of fear. They fear rejection or struggle with limiting beliefs. I want to offer my advice, if you're struggling to take action, on how to go after something big in your business. Following this advice is how I've been able to achieve some of the things I'm most proud of, and I hope it will help you go after your big goals that feel unreachable.

Lia Key is a bright shining light with the most inspiring story. She grew up in poverty and today she is a successful businesswoman and founder of Valencia Key Wearable Joy. Influenced by her mother to realize that her circumstances did not have to define her, Lia was able to follow her dreams wherever they led her. She saw the inspiring women she met along the way using their business to bless others and she created her own brand to pour out and share the light and hope she has within. She has a lot of insight to share about building a brand with a true purpose - and living out that purpose, not just using it.

Should I Wait Till I Make Money Before Starting a Business? Nov 02, 2022
    Show notes

The ultimate chicken and the egg debate... Which should come first, making money as a business or setting up the business entity? I'm in favor of setting up the business entity, EIN, bank account, and everything else you need from the start! When you have a clear idea of what you'll be offering and you see your business going somewhere, there's no reason to wait. However, there are a few reasons I would suggest waiting to set up the business entity. Some of these include if it's very expensive in your state, if you aren't sure you'll be profitable, or if you may be moving soon.
