ATTN Celtic Musicians. I'm looking for some good stories to share. You see, I also host the Pub Songs Podcast. I started sharing stories from musicians about their songs. I'd like to do more of those. So if you have a story that you'd like to share about a song, from a gig, or maybe even just a piece of Celtic history that you love. Drop me an email at marc@marcgunn.com. Put "Pub Story" in the show subject. Tell me about your story. Maybe I'll ask you to record your story for the show.

I lived in Qatar in the middle east from 2008 and recently returned home to Wales. I listen to your podcast while running and absolutely love it. Keeps me calm, as running can be quite tough in the hills of wales! I particularly love the Andrew Mcmanus song searching for the sun on elisode 493, but cant seem to find it anywhere to download. Anyway, thank you so much for your music, you will never realise just how much it means to me and i look forward to every thursday when i can download and listen! Have a great day, sending lots of love from Wales."

Today I was Cross Country Skiing down by the CT River with my favorite girl (who has lots of English, Irish and Scot in her bloodline). My name is Marc Gunn. I am a Celtic musician and podcaster. This show is dedicated to the indie Celtic musicians. Please support these artists. Share the show with your friends. And find more episodes at celticmusicpodcast.com. You can also support this podcast on Patreon. We have a bit of a different show today. I told my graphic designer, Miranda Nelson, that the St Patrick's Day show would be the 500th episode of the podcast. She thought about it and came back and asked, "would you mind if I collected some audio feedback from some of the artists on the show." I said," sure! That sounds great!" I'll be honest, I didn't expect much of a response. But I remembered that she suggested this when I started compiling this 500th episode. She forwarded me some feedback via email. I looked through them and didn't see any audio. "Oh well," I thought. "Less than I expected, but that's fine." Then I noticed one band mentioned something about including audio in their email. But I never got that. So I emailed and asked Miranda where that audio was. Her response, "it's in the folder you set up on Google Drive." Oh yeah! I did do that, didn't I? I opened up the folder and was floored to find over 60 recordings by Celtic bands wishing me a happy 500th episode. Wow! Ye know a couple pieces are easy to pop into an episode. But I didn't think about how to include ALL OF THESE pieces? So what should I do for this show? Instead of me introducing bands and songs, I'm gonna let the artists do it themselves. I will play their congratulations as a way of introducing their music. Course that means if you want to find out the name of the song or tune, you will need to visit the shownotes at CelticMusicPodcast.com or just check your podcatcher. Because each track has a time stamp so you can easily look it up. That said, I'll have a few moments to break up the music and say hi. But for the most part this is just music and congratulations. I want to thank Miranda Nelson Designs for all of her hard work in making this happen. Miranda has a whole bunch of Celtic shirt designs you should check out at mirandanelsondesigns.com. And I want to thank everyone who has supported this podcast over the past 16 years. And without further adieu, let's meet the bands. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! I have a very special show to share with you today. It's a tradition that I've been doing longer than this podcast.

Every St Patrick's Day since before the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast even existed, I published a blog where I shared 17 Celtic MP3s that you could download for free for St Patrick's Day.

You see, I interact with a LOT of Celtic bands and musicians. They gave me permission to give away some of their music. All they ask is that I tell you where to find out more about them so that perhaps you might buy their music and support them.

Today, you will hear ALL of the songs that you will be able download for free on St Patrick's Day.

So if there's a song or tune that you absolutely love in today's show. You can either visit their website by following the link in the shownotes, or you can wait until March 14, when I will email you a link where you can download all of the music for free.

If you want to jump the gun, the downloads are actually now available to all of our Song Hengers. These folks pledge $5 per episode or more per month to support this podcast on Patreon. I'll tell you more about that later.

    FREEBIES

We will publish our 500th episode of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast next week. This show started in 2005, a year after podcasting became a phenomena. But even before that my goal was to change the way you hear Celtic music, both as a marketing term and how you listen.

I started giving away free music like the 17 for St Patrick's Day. Then I gave away free podcasts like this and other podcasts I host.

In fact, I'd like you to check out 11 St Patrick's Day Facts in the Pub Songs Podcast. I created that episode with some fun facts about St Patrick's Day and combined it with music from bands in this podcast. I also launched some St Patrick's Day stories in that podcast. So subscribe and check it out.

I have a free eBook for Celtic musicians. It's called Celtic Musicians Guide to Digital Music. If you want some internet marketing tips, you will want to get that book.

And I realized after compiling this list, that that's a lot of things to share. So if you send an email to email address in the show, then you will get links to all of these freebies. Plus there's a few exclusive podcast episodes that are not in the public feed. And I'll show you how to get a free CD of mine while they last.

Hope the new year finds you and your family safe and healthy. As rough as 2020 was , the Irish and Celtic Music podcast remained a bright spot and ongoing inspiration to me. And the podcast is beginning 2021 just as outstanding as ever.

In other news: you may recall that my older son Jackson, high school orchestra violist, got to perform in Carnegie Hall with Irish tenor Eric Cahill in march in NYC St. Patrick's Day parade in 2018. Well, my younger son Michael plays trumpet in the high school band, and they have been invited to participate in the St. Patrick's Day parade in 2022 in......wait for it....DUBLIN!

Again, So much thanks for bringing us all the podcast. Slainte'"

One of which I am trying to find! I wanted to contact you to see if you could help. It was maaaaaaany years ago.

I believe it was something like "Wandering Mary" ?

It was about a woman that waited by the shore for her William, eventually joined a ship crew, found him cheating on her so she shot him and then became a pirate.

    Maybe "Dreaded Mary" ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for all of the great tunes and humor throughout the years."

I don't really have time to help people find songs. But I threw out a few suggestions and eventually figured out he was looking for "Devilish Mary" by The Whiskey Bards. That was in episode #40 from 2007.

If there is a song you're looking for, you should definitely check out the Irish & Celtic Music Club on Facebook. It's a great resource for finding more Celtic music. And there are a lot of listeners who are a part of the group.

James Slaven emailed photos: "Hey, Marc! Hope things are going well! Still immensely enjoying the podcast. It's been quite helpful as I hike around state parks to get some socially distanced exercise and keep sane during my ten months (so far) of working from home. A few pictures are attached of various hikes that I was taking while listening to your various shows. There's nothing like having the bagpipes come on as you crest a hill and see a beautiful lake!

Also, I'm enjoying the variety in the shows. Bagpipe and Irish pub tunes are my two favorites, but being exposed to other fusion genres and having a nice mixture of genders and of cultures is awesome. Keep up the good work!"

Mike Nichols emailed: "I think you have played a track from Sea Star on one of your programs I have heard. I believe Faye was part of a duo that performed under the moniker of Syren. I have one track of theirs from the old "noise trade " or downloads, com days.

Red is the Rose: I love this track to a degree that is not reasonable. Wondering if you have any information about where that music catalog might be available.

Would love to hear Great Selkie or Moon Jubilee, I'm sure your cast experience could weave either of those into a fantastic episode of one of creatures and the other of celebration songs.

    Just Mike's opinion.

Thanks for a terrific show. Your great work helps me with long drives at my work.

I've been busily sharing the show with a few select friends. Thanks again"

David Black emailed: "Hi, Further to your episode #483 about being poor but happy I would suggest an Irish song immediately suited to this subject called Cad É Sin Don Té Sin (a rather strange expression in the Irish Language meaning, what's it to you if it doesn't bother you). Altan have done a great version with a different melody."

KIM KNEBEL emailed: "Hi Marc. Just listened to the recent podcast featuring women in Celtic music. Suggestion for the new version: The Holman sisters of Tuatha Dea (Rebecca Mullikin) and their violinist, Laura Smith. The song Alienn Dun is haunting and their voices just amazing. While they've gone a bit more to the rock side, their older music has a Celtic/Gypsy flair. Laura is a newer addition and is pretty amazing. Thank you for all you do!!"

Carson Sprenger emailed a photo: "So glad I found your podcast on this day. I live on a small island in the Pacific Northwest. Years ago in college I studied irish history and literature. I spent six months traveling in your dear county, hitching and working on farms in the year of 1995. My goodness, in these times and in the dark of winter it's such a good thing to discover good music and hear of the good people dedicated to supporting independent music and thought. Hats off to you. You made my day."

Iris Pea M. Tyczynska emailed from Bournemouth, England: "Hey there, Thanks a lot for the podcast :3. I like Irish and Celtic music a lot, so it's a treat. While listening, I dance with my hula hoop ??. I can send you a video next time if you like. When I'm not dancing, I drink local apple juice from a green wine glass while chilling on the sofa ?????"

Eric Guarin emailed: "Well, I guess I skipped New Year's, but am just finishing listening to the Celtic Christmas Women episode. Really nice! I especially thought the closer (Sharon Shannon's "Christmas Time Again") totally fabulous-if it could ever get mainstream play it could become a new classic.

I did notice that in Apple CarPlay, the name of the song and artist pops up. Cool! Has anyone else mentioned that? But at the same time, I'd suggest putting the artist name first. The reason is that display space even on an 8" screen cuts off the artist name.

And last or alas, I had really really hoped to join a Celtic Invasion, but you will be roaming during my last week of the school year.* :-( Well, another time, I hope. Cheers"

Aaron Adair commented on Patreon: "That was much-needed salve, Mark. Thank you for sharing your love with us all. Be well."
