#47 Important Life Questions With Fredrik & Charlie Feb 11, 2019
    Show notes

To understand the ‘how to” you need to understand where you are in your life journey

‘Where are you going with your life?’

In this episode, Fredrik and Charlie discuss what you need to get to ‘how to’

They explore motivation and leverage providing some pertinent examples

If you want to understand more about what motivates us then listen in.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • The Life Puzzle

In very early childhood we are trying to work out about the world around us.

In early childhood, we learn more about values and this is taught by those close to us. Where we live in the world and religion can be things that influence these values.

In later childhood, we are trying to figure out what we want to do with life. We develop relationships outside of our family circle.

In early adulthood, we make many more steps and seek clarity. During this period, we will make decisions that will affect us in the coming years.

In order to understand the ‘how to” you need to understand where you are in your life journey

‘Where are you going with your life?’

    You can answer this by working out the following;

Why – why do you do want to do whatever it is you are doing?

Who – who do you want to work with?

Where- where in the world do you want to do it work?

When – when do you want it executed by

This approach can be applied in many different situations such as an event or a to a marketing strategy, but to make it a reality you must apply lots of action.

    • What is leverage?

It is the use of something for maximum advantage. Leverage can be applied to all aspects of life. You can trade money for time or time for money and you may use leverage differently to achieve the desired result at a particular point in your life.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Some people say you can have it all, you can but it does require focus and discipline to split your time equally’

‘You can leverage a place if it has value to others. These are factors in deciding where you live’

‘You can share your message with lots of people’

‘We always aspire to what we don’t have’

‘The more money you have the more you can buy back time’

    ‘Is it worth your time?’

‘So often people know what to do they just don’t do it’

#46 Fearless Coaching, an Interview With Robin Waite Feb 04, 2019
    Show notes

Tune in to hear Fredrik in discussion with Robin Waite - business coach, mentor and author

Robin focuses on helping people to get out of their own way and improve their mindset.

This in-depth discussion includes examples of how a business can be transformed through fearless coaching and explains what it takes to make those changes for success.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Making a Change

It’s a natural thing that as you get filled up with information it becomes more difficult to take on new things and make changes. It’s in that process of it being difficult that the biggest results are realised.

We know at that point of difficulty, we’re breaking old habits and shifting to a new way of doing things and that is ultimately going to build the momentum needed to create that compounding effect.

Forcing the difficult stuff on ourselves enables us; because if you can get through then you will be even stronger.

    • Pricing

Most people look at their competitors and come up with a price that is comparable. They are not thinking about what is in it for their customer at that point.

When you are charging money for time, the only person who benefits is the supplier.

It is a huge change for businesses to become masters at working out the ROI for their customers but is key to making the change to results based.

    • The Transformation

Step one – Raising the price

    This is the easy part

    Step Two- Validation

This is the harder part. It is about validating your price through demand for your service. It is at this point that mindset and limiting belief systems kick in and they can be overwhelming.

When you raise your price the number of yes’s will go down, but you will be able to get better results for your clients with a lower conversion rate.

You will need to be able to sell confidently and believe in your product

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I move them from exchanging time for money to a results-based approach’

‘So, you believe in it enough that you would buy it?’

‘Most business owners just find it too hard and give up’

‘Realising they have to put the work in’

‘Don’t ever stop learning, find something you are passionate about and pursue it’

#45 Family Office in India, Nitin Shakder talking About Investments Jan 14, 2019
    Show notes

“Life is good when you make money.” – Nitin Shakdher

In this episode of the Invest In You Podcast, Fredrik chats with Nitin Shakdher, the Founder and CEO of Green Capital, about investments. For almost 20 years, Nitin has been helping individuals and institutions growing their investments. He shares with us how he manages to stay at the top of his game despite the stress his work brings.

Discover how he finds time to bond with his family every night, in addition to the overseas trips he makes on almost every quarter of the year. Nitin also lets you in some if his trading and investing philosophies which has been proven to have helped him.
    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Nitin has been an investor since 1998 – investing in equity markets. He says investing can be easy as long as you are in control and you know what you want to do at some point in time. This also gives you the benefit of enjoying other things in life, as well.
    • What does Nitin do when he’s not working? Nitin plays golf and reads a lot of books. He sees to it that he’s always updated of what’s happening around him. He also enjoys walking around the cities when it’s good weather.
    • Nitin sees to it that he makes time for his family. When he goes home to see them, he makes sure that there should be no work that will get in the way of their family bonding.
    • Nitin, not only works with individuals but also institutions. He works with a variety of people – from business entrepreneurs to sports stars to fashion designers. When it comes to investments, these professionals are still not clear of what to do so Nitin is there to guide them.
    • A lot of investors prioritize emotional IQ rather than financial IQ. Financial investors have to be emotionally stable. You don’t have to equip yourself with all the financial knowledge to succeed.
    • Nitin’s #1 Rule on trading: Do a risk assessment so if it comes to the point that it doesn’t work, you’re able to hold your position for 7-8 years. Always think that it is a long-term investment.
    • Nitin’s perfect office doesn’t involve fanciness and intricacies. He’s okay with just his laptop, WiFi with high-speed internet, and maybe a drink on his hand at the beach.
    • Nitin’s insights on Blockchain and cryptocurrencies in India: cryptocurrencies will not necessarily replace physical cash in the near future. Blockchain as a technology can be adapted in the future.

    BEST MOMENTS

    • “Like all family men, it’s very tough to balance certain things because sometimes, in the evening, your mind is in different space and your family demands attention… I try to switch it on and off. I don’t take too much work or stress home. It’s good to have it well-balanced and to open your world to different things.”
    • “Sometimes, investment professionals and the people in the finance industry get very involved with the whole attribute of the whole space and what happens. Then, we stopped realizing that there are other things to life as well.”
    • “You need to be disciplined, you need to be emotionally strong, you need to look at the larger picture, you should be willing to risk your capital, and you should know what you are doing at all times.”
    • “It’s easy to look at good times… everyone thinks it’s a party, and everyone enjoys it, but you have to be a good investor to stick to the bad times. And you can’t be a great investor if you haven’t seen crashes in the market.”
    • “It’s important to travel once every 2-3 months because when you travel, you come out from your own individual work perspective and you look at the world with a different perspective.”

#44 THINK NATALIA; Think About Branding Jan 07, 2019

On today’s episode, serial entrepreneur Fredrick interviews personal branding strategist, keynote speaker and award-winning LinkedIn professional, Dr Natalia Wiechowski.
    KEY TAKEAWAYS

      • Be the person that you truly are on the inside and if you found your message and your thing, then the right people will like you and will do business with you. Dr Natalia insists that people believe in themselves and she says that by doing this, you will achieve everything that you have ever wanted to achieve in your entire life.
      • What is the personal brand? Your personal brand is what other people say about you when you're not in the room. Branding is another word for reputation. The way how you move, the way how you speak, the way what you say, the way how you dress, your messaging, is your entire brand, your personal brand.
      • Personal branding is based on your values. Who are you? What's important to you? How do you help other people? How do you add value? What do you want to be known for?

      • Believe in quantity, yes, but if you’re asked between quality and quantity, you should always go for quality.
    • The human capital theory. This theory believes that the more you believe in yourself, the more you can achieve anything in life, and the more you will invest in your studies and in your knowledge and in everything is related to your job.
    • If you want to transition smoother from university into your first job, you need to improve your skills, you need to be good in your major, you need to have practical experience, the interesting part we need to know is how to market yourself, and you need to have already invested in social ties or social relationships to people in the job market.
    • It’s very important to understand what is the service or the product that you're offering and does it solve a real-world problem for you to become an entrepreneur. You also need to have a proper structure and framework and plan.
    • Knowledge. You need to have knowledge or education on the businesses that you want to invest in so that you can become a top earner entrepreneur.

#42 Your Communication And Pitching Matter With Dominic Colenso And Fredrik Sandvall Dec 17, 2018
    Show notes

In this illuminating episode Fredrik discusses with Dominic Colenso the vital components required for successful communication and pitching across a range of business contexts. The important elements for successful pitching and communication are all discussed enabling us all to understand how to successfully approach these vital aspects of business.

Dominic Colenso – is the founder of Inflow Global a specialist communication training company working with businesses to help their people speak and perform under pressure, focusing on all aspects of verbal and non-verbal communication.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Communication - How do you work with other people?

A starting premise is always that everyone has the ability to communicate, we’re doing it all the time and we’re doing it in lots of different scenarios. Working with people on heightening their awareness and understanding how they’re coming across in different situations means they have more choice.

    • When people understand what range, they have available to them they can dial things up, and certain things down depending on the context they are in.
    • How do you really connect with a person?

Putting spotlight on the audience, who you’re talking to and what their needs are and making sure you meet those needs are the key aims to be met.

    • Communication is the transfer of energy between 2 or more human beings and when you’re the person driving the communication it’s your responsibility to take care of your audience and give to them what they need.
    • Pitching – How can you get it right?

It’s important to understand what are your hot buttons, what are the triggers? Be completely honest with yourself is there certain behaviour in other people that makes you tense? or are there patterns? e.g. in the way the room is set up. Rationalising the triggers enables you to be better mentally prepared.

    • Preparation is the only way to bring those words to life. Rehearsing is absolutely vital this doesn’t mean you need to learn script it’s about understanding what your key messages are then saying them out loud as many ways as possible so when you’re in the situation your body knows what to do.
    • The key is to make eye contact, be available to people in the room. Its important to make an impact when you enter room and you should move into the space with your head up and making eye contact.
    • Start with something different and own the space. Engaging the audience and creating that equal relationship is vital.
    • If you’re going in asking for money or investment then they are interviewing you, but you are also interviewing them there is a balance of power. If you go in and give it all away the end results and end relationship can be disastrous.
    • The ‘call to action’ is a vital component, you need to be clear about what the next steps are, you’ve got to agree some way of moving forward – be upfront and ask.

    BEST MOMENTS

“You have a responsibility to take your audience on that journey”.

“There is always a balance –it’s your duty to try and understand.”

“Some people bring light to the room some people bring darkness”

“In the realm of pitching – how do I influence and inspire other people?”

“We begin to breathe in a way that helps pump adrenalin quicker, moving us to flight or fight mode.”

“I like the whole idea of being an influencer, to be someone that gives so people are attracted to you that’s a massive thing in today’s society.”

“Crazy thing is most of us we had it, we dared to do things then stuff happened and made boundaries for our whole life.”

“I am always looking to open up dialogue to give the client or audience as much space as possible to tell me what they need, then I can tailor my offering to meet their needs.”

#39 Networking And How to Invest in Your Network Nov 29, 2018
    Show notes

Welcome back to another episode of Invest In You. On today’s episode, serial entrepreneurs Charlie and Fredrick, talk about one of the investments you can do in yourself which is relationships and in this case, networking.

What’s networking? What is networking all about? Answers to all these and more are in this episode, hop in to learn and find out this and much more.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

      • What is networking? One of the most important skills as an entrepreneur, it's also one of the most valuable assets you have got to yourself and it's all relating to other people and how you link, connect and help others and how they can help you.
      • What is networking all about? Networking is all about keeping your existing contacts, is also about adding new ones.
      • What to do for networking to succeed. In this case is if you don't follow up, then you wasted time. You should always do a follow up on the people you have contacts. If you don't collect the details, and you don't even know if like to follow up with the people, that is a waste of time.
      • How to pick or find people when you are networking. Group number one which is the people who are on their own, they might be standing there filling with telephone, they might be standing looking to the wall, they might be standing there with a drink or without a drink, they feel uncomfortable to be there, you actually help them by approaching them in a careful way and introducing yourself because it means they are not alone anymore, which means you save them the hustle to try to find one to speak to.
    • How do you approach a group or two people? You are making the couple into a tree, which means that you are the odd one out. The other people might already have a rapport between them. What I do is just super quickly, I excuse myself, introduce myself, and then I say please carry on where you were, don't let me drop and then people usually do or they start to engage with you.
      • At the bar is also a good place to pick up new people to talk to because they come there to grab a drink and maybe learn to engage a new person. You can also pick up people in a hall or meeting or a gathering. In order to save yourself more time, you can ask the host to connect you with people in there who might be interested.
    • How do you break away from people? We have introduced ourselves; we’ve said hi to some people, you might also bring your business cards, which means people can get back to you. Take the details and capture the details on the phone and there are also some apps which allows you to very quickly Connect. After all that and pitching your business idea to them, you can now tell them goodbye and go to the other person.
    • Why network as an entrepreneur. There are some really good meetings where you can be one of the key people in the room, I always recommend if you can try to be the speaker, that means that people would like to come to you and you're very much in demand to speak to and its way easier to do networking and get what you want.

    BEST MOMENTS

    • “Network is your network.”
    • “Sometimes you find what you are looking for in the most unusual context.”
    • “Networking is a super important business skill.”
    • "Try to be interested not interesting to people you are engaging with while networking so that you can learn as much as possible from them.”
    • “In networking, be professional from how you dress how you speak, how you approach people, your handshake, your eye contact and your business card.”
    • “Try to be yourself and don't play a role.”

#38 Is Working With A Consultant or Consulting Any Good? Nov 26, 2018
    Show notes

Welcome back to another episode of Invest In You. This week our serial entrepreneurs, Fredrik and Charlie, talk about Consulting. What’s it all about? What does a consultant actually do? How do you start a career as a consultant? Answers to all these and more are in this episode as Fredrik talks through his own experiences of consulting over many years.

    Key Takeaways

What Is A Consultant? A consultant is someone who tries to help companies solve problems they might have. Ideally, a consultant is external to the organization to avoid any bias they might have if they were internal to that company.

What Are The Downsides To Being A Consultant? There are some downsides to being a consultant, not least that you can end up living out of a suitcase for long periods of time. As a consultant, you are rarely still working for a company at the implementation phase of a project. This can mean that your ideas, suggestions and plans aren’t always implemented in the way you set out.

How Do You Get A Job As A Consultant? Anyone can be a consultant, there is no direct qualification needed to be a consultant. Many MBA students aim for a career as a consultant. Working for a big four company or the next tier down of companies can be helpful. There is always the option of setting up your own consultancy which can be very rewarding but it can be difficult getting your foot in the door with larger clients.

How Hard Is It To Get Customers? If you’re good and you’re good at selling then it’s easy. Sometimes getting involved in bigger projects where you might be a smaller cog can be a really effective way of learning, and meeting potential customers. Always try to improve your network and continue learning.

Consultancy As A Career? Consultancy is a great career, often highly paid and highly rewarding. As a consultant you’re constantly learning new things, and using creativity to solve problems to ultimately help people.

    Best Moments

‘You can have the best trainers in the world but if you don’t have the implementation then nothing will happen.’

‘It’s useful to hire consultants for specific tasks.’

‘You’re paid well, and you can help solve big, relevant problems.’

‘If you’re really good, and you’re really good at selling getting customers is easy, if you’re not so good and you don’t like selling, it’s impossible.’

‘Mentoring and Consulting have many similarities.’
