ITK Newsletter, no. CXVI: LUNAR-PICK Review - Conan Serent War #2 + Moon Knight Vol. 1 issue #10 Dec 18, 2019
    Show notes

    Hi Loonies!

Another newsletter for your hot little hands, right here, right now!

It seems quite luxurious to have such a long time between releasing an episode and writing a newsletter (we dropped our latest show with special guest, Caden Butera) but fear not, I've not been sitting idle!

As mentioned recently, I've been quietly writing up some reviews in advance for our ITK Moon Knight Chronology reviews which will be released in January 2020 through Paint Monk's Library. Not only that, but I've also been tinkering away at the next ITK Serial episode of THE HUNT FOR KHONSHU'S GOLDEN SCEPTRE (more on that later), as well as recording our last show for my brother podcast, LAST SONS OF KRYPTON - A SUPERMAN PODCAST.

Needless to say, it's been a busy time - even more so than usual for the end of the year coming.

So, what is in store for the upcoming episode I assume you are all thinking? Well, we got alot more than you may have initially bargained for, because it occurred to me earlier in the week, that we have a new comic to review!

    CONAN: SERPENT WAR #2

    Written by Jim Zub

Art by Scot Eaton and Vanessa Del Rey

Not only that, but as mentioned at the ending of our last episode, we'll also have a LUNAR-PICK Classic Run Review, with special guest Knol 'Loony Toonz' Tate! Knol and I prerecorded this ahead of time, and I was thinking whether to hold off on it for another week or so...but we discuss some very relevant things for the upcoming weekend, so it's best that I include our chat in this upcoming episode!

    DELETER HIT THE STAGE AGAIN

The reason that I want to still include our pre-recorded chat, is that Knol and I talk about Deleter's upcoming gig on Saturday 21st December and the MPLS Eagle 34 Club!

Flyer is as shown below, and seriously, if you are in the Minneapolis area, and are a hardened Loony, then please consider going and supporting Knol's great band!

Apart from the cool toonz you'll get on Saturday, our ITK episode will include a chat with Knol who is always entertaining to talk with and it's actually the first time we have Knol on the show to review a comic -

    LUNAR-PICK Classic Comic Review

MOON KNIGHT VOL. 1 ISSUE #10

    Written by Doug Moench

    Art by Bill Sienkiewicz

So plenty of reviewing up ahead with what appears to be an already action-packed episode! My partner in crime, Connorshu should also be back in the ssaddle, so it should make for a fun episode!

    But it doesn't stop there!.....

ITK SERIAL - THE HUNT FOR KHONSHU'S GOLDEN SCEPTRE - Part 7

So I've almost completed editing another fun-filled episode of our serial (be sure to drop us a line if you want to be part of the ITK Universe! :)...Come January, opportunities to be part of the serial will form part of the package for a Pateron membership...so until then, I'm opening it up to all the Loonies! ).

    WHERE WE LEFT OFF -

    So we've seen so far what's happened to Connorshu, Geronimo Johnson, Cold Case Kurtz and The Power of Chad;

    The other High Priests are safe and sound as well, though we've not seen them for a while;

    We also know of the Serpents of Chaos, a crime gang which may appear to have something to do with the missing relics;

    The Loonies also have a crimelord, Bob (of the Culo Grandes Syndicate) captured for further questioning;

And finally, we have also been introduced to a new player in town, Knol...and a first look at one of the Agents of Chaos - Sobek, God of Crocodiles!

One of the relics has been spotted, but still no sign of Khonshu's Sceptre….

Episode 7 will pick up where we left off with The Man on the Streets, Tommy, as he frequents the dives and gritty bars of the seedy downtown precinct. Does Tommy uncover the Sceptre's whereabouts? Does he meet another Agent of Chaos? Or perhaps the God of Chaos, Set himself..?

You'll have to tune in this episode to get the next chapter in our ongoing saga!

    RECOMMENDED PODCAST THIS WEEK!

My pick of podcasts this week goes to friend of the show Scott Weatherly and his second podcast (some of you would recognise his name from his 20th Century Geek Podcast, which we've been affiliated with in the past), titled STORIES OUT OF TIME & SPACE.

Relatively new, this podcast covers reviews of epic Sci-Fi movies...so far they've covered Forbidden Planet and Solaris (the original)...well worth checking out!

    • Stories Out of Time & Space - Episode 1 - Forbidden Plant (1956)
    • Stories Out of Time & Space - Episode 2 - Solaris (1973)

If you DON'T want your comments broadcast, please just add, "(DNB)" at the end of your comment, and we'll be sure not to broadcast it. We'll pick a few comments from here and discuss on the show!

ITK Newsletter, no. CXV: MOON & STARS - Paradox Studios' MOON KNIGHT Fan Film Discussion Dec 12, 2019
    Show notes

    Loonies. Camera.Action!

Welcome, welcome, fair Loonies to yet another newsletter, coming at you to paint your eyes purple and induce your brain with heady goodness.

This week there are only a few segments to this newsletter, but I kinda want to spend a good amount of time on them as I'm pretty excited by them all!

First up, you're probably wondering what is in store for our next show. Well, it all still appears to be on track, and I've chatted with the good man himself - on our 125th episode, we'll have special guest Caden Butera on, to discuss his fan film, 'MOON KNIGHT' from his creator owned Paradox Studios.

If you've not yet seen Caden's film (which is a thing a beauty...but not without some creative licence which I'm sure will cause a stir amongst Loonies), then check it out on the link below!

PHASE OF THE MOON: Full Moon

MOON & STARS - MK on film discussion

Paradox Studios' MOON KNIGHT Fan Film

Have been trying for YONKS to get Caden on the show and although we both were super keen to make it happen, I'd say Caden and I have the worst time zone ratios in the history of our ITK Podcast! Time zones coupled with busy schedules on both parts have made it difficult, but I just HAD to get Caden on to discuss his cool film before the Disney+ show rears it's head.

It will be a fun chat as I'll ask Caden and explore more of Paradox Studios; I'll get the scoop on Caden's experience with Moon Knight and comic book characters; and by having him on the show now, I'll be able to ask him his thoughts on the upcoming Disney+ show and what he'd be expecting to see!

ITK Scribes - The Journey Begins...

Further to something which I dropped last newsletter and show, have been steadily and diligently writing in anticipation for Moon Knight comic book reviews in association with Paint Monk's Library. Above, you can see the banner which will form a part of the Library and we are absolutely chuffed to have our own corner of the Library, purely dedicated to Moon Knight!

There's an ITK Scribes Group which has been created and everyone involved is very excited at the prospect of undertaking the mammoth task of documenting the entire Moon Knight run in comics, in review form! Partnering up with Wally Monk (Chief Scribe and owner of Paint Monk's Library), we at ITK are honoured to be part of this project and once the reviews hit the internet in January 2020, there will be plenty of cross promotion for Paint Monk's Library both on the podcast and in our social media! It's just a logical extension of the show (which aims to review all the Moon Knight comics and appearances in all sorts of media) so I urge you all to give Paint Monk's Library a go, and check out all the reviews! Not only the Moon Knight ones, but there is a whole catalogue of comic book reviews - there's something for everyone!

The reviews of Paint Monk's Library can be found at their website by clicking on the banner above- start exploring!

Also, please be sure to check out and join Paint Monk's other social media platforms to stay up to date with all the latest and greatest reviews -

    RECOMMENDED PODCAST THIS WEEK!

    I love these blokes.

Derek, John and Chris constantly bring their A-Game to their show and I can put my hand on my heart and say that TV Podcast Industries is THE premium podcast for all our TV show discussion needs...!

I've plugged them before, but can't help plugging them again. They are currently spotlighting The Watchmen TV show (and if you haven't yet started watching, I highly recommend you do! TV at it's best!) and they've reformatted their show by having separate shows for their discussion (which is thanks to the boys having access to preview copies of the episodes) as well as a follow up show for feedback which complements each other perfectly -

    • TVPI Watchmen Catalogue
    • TVPI - Episode 7 Discussion: 'An Almost Religious Awe'
    • TVPI - Episode 7 Feedback
    • TVPI - Episode 8 Discussion : 'A God Walks into Abar"

    CONTACT US!

Discussion threads are already up on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the upcoming episode. As mentioned, give the 17 minutes Moon Knight Film by Caden Butera a watch, and let us know what you think!

If you DON'T want your comments broadcast, please just add, "(DNB)" at the end of your comment, and we'll be sure not to broadcast it. We'll pick a few comments from here and discuss on the show!

That wraps it for another newsletter - I'm pretty pumped to record the next episode with Caden, though I don't think I'll be able to reach the dizzying heights of David Finn from last episode!

Oh! Forgot!...finally, I've thrown a little event on the FB Page and Group...an end of year catch up with any local Loonies around the Sydney area. Should be a fun time and chance to interact face-to-face with other Loonies, so if you are interested and are in the Sydney area, check out the event in the ITK FB Page or Group!

Who knows, ...maybe it could be an annual thing for Loonies everywhere, to meet up with other Loonies nearby...that'd be fun!

OK, I'm starting to ramble...better bottle it now!!

    Until next time....

PHASE OF THE MOON: By Crom!! ...

    LUNAR-PICK NEW COMIC BOOK REVIEW

    CONAN: SERPENT WAR #1 -

    Published December 2019

Writer - Jim Zub Penciler - Vanessa Del Rey, Scot Eaton, Stephen Segovia Inker - Scott Hanna, Vanessa Del Rey Colourist - Frank D'Arma, Jean-Francois Beaulieu Letterer - Travis Lanham Editor - Mark Basso, Ralph Macchio

BARE BONES (SYNOPSIS) - written by Rey

A lone being named James Allison lies in bed, broken and forlorn with nothing but his distant memories to comfort him.

James Allison is no ordinary man, and as he edges towards what is seemingly his death, he recalls the countless lives he has led throughout the centuries - from barbaric adventures, to Gothic invasions and holy crusades.

Allison is haunted by a being with serpent eyes and it is this very being which seems to be Allison's reaper in disguise.

The serpent being forces Allison to remember his sins and recall one of his past lives - a life as a man named Niord.

It was as Niord that Allison came face to face with a Serpent monster named Satha. After Niord discovers the beast has slaughtered half his tribe, Niord defeats the great snake, and it is this memory that is reminded to Allison from the voice in his head...the voice belonging to Set.

Allison reaches out and traverses the universe and links up with a man named Moon Knight...a servant of Khonshu and one susceptible to join Allison's cause. Allison's aim is to recruit a team to assist him in defeating the voice in his head...the voice that is compromising his immortal soul. So, with the help of Khonshu, Moon Knight is recruited. Others join shortly after, as Allison appears to be slowly assaulted by menacing tentacles - Soloman Kane is recruited from 16th century Northumberland; cut-throat fighter, Dark Agnes is lured into the quest after having been confronted with what appears to be black magic from a band of villagers in Poitu-Charentes; and finally from the Hyborian Age, Conan the Barbarian is afflicted with serpent visions after having battled an avatar of Set the great serpent. His hallucinations draw him towards the call of Allison from beyond.

As the four recruits become more entrenched in Allison's other worldly influence through battles that each find themselves, in a flash of brilliance, they mysteriously discover themselves paired up - Moon Knight with Solomon Kane, and Dark Agner with Conan.

By Allsion's design they have been brought closer together, to be used as pawns for Allison's confrontation with the God of Chaos, Set.

ITK Newsletter, no. CXIV: LUNAR-PICK New Comic Review - Conan: Serpent War #1 Dec 04, 2019
    Show notes

    OMG Loonies!

Can't believe it...forgot to release a newsletter last week! It only just occurred to me a few days ago....daaaannnng!

In any case, before we get into the juicy bits of this newsletter, I'm going to get it out of the way now - we'll be covering in our next episode a brand spanking, hot-off-the-press, crisp, steaming hot, clean, neatly folded new comic featuring Moon Knight...

PHASE OF THE MOON: BY CROM!

    LUNAR-PICK New Comic Review -

    CONAN: SERPENT WAR #1

It seems like a long time between drinks, but yessiree, we'll be having a good ol' review on this new comic book for you in our upcoming episode. Not only will we have that, but we'll have a special guest on the show too.

He's the biggest Conan fan I know, and a right royal hoot - it's Dave Finn from The Signal of Doom Podcast and Dave will be on to give us a little primer on the character as well as join us in reviewing Serpent War. There are a couple of interesting Robert E. Howard characters too such as Solomon Kane and Dark Agnes which should make this mini an entertaining one.

We had a quick look at the preview for the issue in our last episode and although our reactions were a little lukewarm to the preview - hey, it kicks off with Moon Knight, so you can't go too wrong, right?......right?

ITK EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT: WHAT THE FUTURE LIES

So, there's also a little something I'd like to share with you, and it'll be a new era for ITK. After careful deliberation, I'll be rolling out a Patreon Page in the new year to test the waters and see if the show can be self sustaining. I've been playing around with the idea of dropping the show down to every fortnight as opposed to every week, as much as it pains me to even consider. I love the show and I love producing it every week, but it all costs money to keep the lights on, and even though in the scheme of things, it isn't that much...the truth is that there are thing which I'd like to utilise my coin on. If the podcast can sustain itself, then it got me thinking - maybe it can open the doors to much, much more.

So, the last few days I've been creating a Patreon Page for ITK and it's pretty much done. I'll wait until the new year to roll it out, but I thought I'd let you know first in this here newsletter.

In fact this newsletter also will undergo a change.

In the new year, I'll be dropping back on writing a newsletter on a weekly basis and it will become part of the incentives for Patreons as a monthly newsletter.

...there's another reason for this, Loonies, bear with me...:)

In the ever changing landscape and drive to share Moon Knight with the world, ITK will collaborate with Wally Monk of Paint Monk's Library to write reviews of all Moon Knight's catalogue starting with Werewolf By Night #32!

So far, I've put my hand up to try and write the first eight appearances of Moon Knight but I've also sent out a post to all the Loonies to see if anyone is interested in undertaking the task.

Speaking with Wally, the Moon Knight articles will commence January 1st 2020, so I'm hoping to stockpile a big bunch of reviews to get us ahead of the game.

So with added writing duties, and with a Patreon Page looming, I've decided to reduce the newsletter to monthly. Which probably isn't a bad thing as it'll be action packed and have a heap of news and articles from the past month.

Having said all this, it's business as usual for ITK until the new year, so I'll be wrapping up this newsletter as we hurtle towards the end of the year!

    SUPPORTING MY FAVOURITE PODCASTS

Seeing as now ITK are entering the Patreon world, it's no surprise that it's this very reason too, that I want to distribute me coin around. I love my podcasts (can you tell? :P) so I'm trying to support them not only by listening, but by also backing their Patreon Pages...so anyway, I just wanted to say this is partly the reason why I'm creating a Patreon Page, in the hope ITK can sustain itself, so I can support my favourite podcasts with the money in my own wallet! :)

FANTASY COMIC LEAGUE (FCL) - #ITKMOONKNIGHT 2019 - November Results

Well, it's the end of the penultimate month for this season's FCL and I'm just tickled pink! There seems to be quite the battle up the top of the overall leader board, but for this month alone, I was happy and relieved to come out on top. It'll boost my chances further with only one month to go...but what a wacky month it was!

As shown below, three Loonies ended up on 40 points (Tommy, Dustin and Chad), and they could only be split by looking at each player's MVP in their draft -

So with the overall season tally, I think that leaves us as follows, with one more month to go -

    Rey - 7 pts

    Tommy - 6 pts

    Jason - 4 points

    Dustin - 2 pts

    Chad - 2 pts

It'll still be a race to the finish, but contenders such as Tommy, new comer Jason, and yours truly can really chop and change positions, all depending on how all of us (Dustin and Chad inclusive) perform and take out the month of December....exciting!

Due to good fortune, the #ITKMoonKnight Division is already locked into it's Season 3 commencing January 2020...for any Loonies keen on participating, NOW's the time to contact us at ITK and voice your interest! We can have multiple divisions if need be, but the first five (and depending if any of the current roster in the Division want to bow out) who want to play will get in for free...any subsequent divisions, it'll cost $16USD for a four month season (Jan-April 2020)!

    RECOMMENDED PODCAST THIS WEEK!

I came across this podcast whilst investigating Patreon,a nd I just love what they do. Although they aren't part of The Collective, they could easily fit into our little group! Go check these guys out!

    • Marveling at Marvel's Marvels (MatMM) - Episode 146: Multiple Man - Some of you know I'm a massive Multiple Man fan, so it's no surprise I chose this episode. It's not their latest episode (that, Episode 147 is all about Magneto), but it's still fun. Well worth listening to and I may even hit them up on Patreon!

As always, there'll be Spoiler threads set up for you to drop your thoughts - just look at our Facebook Page or Group, and on Twitter or even Instagram..otherwise, there's a list below of where you can find us..

If you DON'T want your comments broadcast, please just add, "(DNB)" at the end of your comment, and we'll be sure not to broadcast it. We'll pick a few comments from here and discuss on the show!

BARE BONES (SYNOPSIS) - courtesy of Wiki

Sometime after Maya's call with Marc, Maya calls her contact with the Avengers; Carol Danvers. Maya tries to see if it is worth trusting Marc but Carol is able to validate Marc since he is a Secret Avenger with Steve Rogers. Maya takes Carol's word and meets Marc for hot dogs. During their meeting, the two try to uncover more information from each other; Marc has decided to produce television to hide in plain sight while earning money for his endeavors while Maya was trying to locate the owner of the club where she was working at. Just as the two were beginning to match and compare their sources, Tick Tock from the Night Shift arrives to interrupt their conversation.

Tick Tock, with the ability to read the immediate future, begins to dissect their next moves as the remaining Night Shift members arrive. However, the one variable Tick Tock does not account for is Marc's Wolverine gauntlet. Marc leaps forward to attack with Maya directly behind him. Working with Steve, Peter, and Logan, Moon Knight becomes the best of each while trying to take out the Night Shift. However, Moon Knight is nearly killed by a hypnotizing assassin but Maya is able to shoot her down. With the Night Shift defeated, Marc tries to run before the police arrive but Maya is too focused on integrating Tick Tock as she can't hear the sirens. Cops swarm the scene.

    Show notes

    EPISODE 122:

We return for another episode of a comic book review which we may or may not have already covered! Fear not, we've matured since then, so you'll be getting some red, hot discussion from the High Priests and special guest, Natascha!

Natascha is a friend of the show, comic book reader, prolific novel reader, film buff, gamer...she does it all! We're not sure how much of Moon Knight she knows, but it'll be fun going through one of the classic Moench/Sienkiewicz issues with her!

PHASE OF THE MOON: WANING CRESCENT

    Penciler - Bill Sienkiewicz

    Inker - Bill Sienkiewicz

    Colourist - Bob Sharen

BARE BONES (SYNOPSIS) - courtesy of Wiki

In a gathering storm, Moon Knight watches a tall building from a nearby rooftop. The Daily News says that Bushman has escaped from a maximum security pen. Moon Knight glides across the street and crashes through a window, into an underworld casino.

At Steven Grant's mansion, Marlene Alraune tells Samuels about the statue of Khonshu and the birth of Moon Knight (see issue #1). Does Khonshu's spirit actually inhabit the body of Marc Spector, or does Spector only think so? Only Khonshu knows for sure. Elsewhere in the building, Frenchie works on the new helicopter (the old one crashed into Lake Michigan in issue #7).

Moon Knight pacifies a few goons and asks about Bushman. He notices one goon slipping out a back door and follows the man's Cadillac in Lockley's cab.

Awakened by thunder, Marlene sees a man in a mask. She screams, which brings Frenchie. The masked man knocks down Frenchie and escapes. Marlene and Frenchie see that the statue of Khonshu is missing, and Nedda says that Samuels is missing.

Lockley finds the Cadillac parked beside an open manhole off 34th Street. He calls Marlene to update her; she doesn't tell him about the statue. He spends an hour searching the tunnels, with the water rising, before hearing a noise. It came from a very high room, strung with rope like a spiderweb. He begins to climb.

Marlene realizes that the intruder might have wanted the statue for its artistic value. She goes to the mansion's gallery. Anton Mogart's opera cape is also missing, so the thief was Midnight Man (introduced in issue #3). They head for 34th Street.

Mogart swings down and knocks Moon Knight into the web. He says that, after he survived his fall into the river, he drifted under a drain that poured chemical waste on his face. He hid in the sewers for three days. When he returned to his mansion, the police had confiscated his art collection. To add injury to insult, the chemicals had burned his face. To get revenge, he stole the statue of Khonshu. Now he pushes it off a high platform. Horrified, Moon Knight sees it smash to bits.

Mogart begins shooting at him. Driven by instinct, he leaps and swings, dodging the shots, until he captures Mogart and demands to know where Samuels is. Bushman appears on a higher platform with Samuels and the goon that led Moon Knight here. He pushes a plunger, blowing a hole in the wall. Stormwater begins to fill the chamber ...

MOON RATING (out of phases of the Moon):

ITK Newsletter, no. CXIII: LUNAR-PICK Classic Run Review - Moon Knight Vol. 1, Issue #9 Nov 22, 2019
    Show notes

    Loonies!

It's that time again to dust off those bifocals or spectacles or monocles and cast your eyes on another newsletter coming at you!

Not much to report here, so it may be a short one, but I did want to let you know of the issue we are looking to review this coming weekend.

Yes, we are actually returning to the Moon Knight comics - it seems like eons ago that we did a comic book review - or maybe that's just me...in any case, we attempt once again to align ourselves with the phases of the Moon -

PHASE OF THE MOON: WANING CRESCENT

    LUNAR-PICK Classic Run Review -

MOON KNIGHT VOL. 1, ISSUE #9 - 'VENGEANCE IN REPRISE'

Joining me it's all up in the air at the air at the moment - I've reached out to a few Loonies and dependent on availability of the other High Priests, it will determine who you will hear on the other end of the line (apart from me) when we get stuck into the issue!

    WHO-WHAT -WHERE?

As ITK eases into a lean patch, scheduling certain shows has proven more difficult of late....and I'm fairly certain you don't want to be assaulted with too many 'Rey Rambles', so scheduling may all of a sudden change and guest hosts may change last minute!

It's just the nature of things at the moment, and hopefully we can steady the ship in the near future, but I just wanted to note that although I've highlighted the issue above for comic review...there's a good chance it may change..but then again, it may not! Because I'm a stubborn sonuvagun!:P

Anyway, just wanted to forewarn you! :P

THE COLLECTIVE - TOP RECOMMENDS THIS WEEK!

Recommendations this week come courtesy of a few awesome fellow Collective podcast shows -

    • We Are Venomaniacs release their Episode 32 and cover Week 15 of Absolute Carnage! These guys know their symbiote from their elbow...definitely worth checking out for the banter and in depth discussion!

    CONTACT US!

If you love the classic Moench era of Moon Knight, we'd love to hear from you!

I'll post a thread up on Facebook and Twitter and will pray to Khonshu that you, the Loony, send across your thoughts over the Othervoid for us to discuss!

If you DON'T want your comments broadcast, please just add, "(DNB)" at the end of your comment, and we'll be sure not to broadcast it. We'll pick a few comments from here and discuss on the show!

    Episode 121 - How Much is Moony Worth....really? Nov 18, 2019
    Show notes

    EPISODE 121:

Poor Khonshu. With his sceptre missing, he just doesn't have control over the phases of the Moon as he used to. And with that, we have no control over our show!

Our programming is thrown into flux, as our regular schedule for this episode is shelved in lieu of an episode all about the market value of your Moon Knight comics!

High Priest of Khonshu Rey takes a look at each of the Moon Knight series from 1980 to present, and highlights those issues in your collection which are spiking in value...or those issues which you will need to save your pennies for, in order to complete your collection!

Alongside this, the long awaited return of THE HUNT FOR KHONSHU'S GOLDEN SCEPTRE - An ITK Serial Adventure, continues!!

Episode 6 drops as we see one of the High Priests introduced to a new character, and listen with bated breath as the duo do battle with one of Set's Agents of Chaos!

Beep, beep....and buckle up for this one!!
