Why You Must Have Happiness AND Joy Jul 14, 2023
    Show notes

There’s a huge difference between “feeling” happy and “being” joyful. Happiness is an inconsistent feeling which is temporarily created by the meanings you create about your circumstances. Joy is a consistent mindset which is independent of your circumstances.

Both joy and happiness matter deeply.

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • What is deeply joyful in your life?
    • When do you notice feeling happy?
    • What role will joy play in your life?
    • What role will happiness play in your life?

If you have something you’d really love to hear on the podcast, I would be giddy and grateful to hear all about it:

What Joy and Happiness Look Like Jul 13, 2023
    Show notes

There’s a huge difference between “feeling” happy and “being” joyful. Happiness is an inconsistent feeling which is temporarily created by the meanings you create about your circumstances. Joy is a consistent mindset which is independent of your circumstances.

If you’re hustling to “feel” happy, it’s much like:

    • a filmmaker over-relying on special effects at the expense of a solid story and wonderful characters
    • buying something new and getting giddy because of the novelty of the purchase
    • a chef adding too much salt, sugar, and oils to food to mask the lack of quality of ingredients

If you’re experiencing joy, it’s much like:

    • a filmmaker prioritizing an excellent scrip, plot and character development first
    • being satisfied with how you’re consistently using your purchase
    • great quality ingredients being the basis of a culinary masterpiece

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • What analogy do you have for happiness?
    • What analogy do you have for joy?

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • insufficiency
    • inadequacy
    • restlessness

When You Hate Doing Something But Love Having Done It Jul 07, 2023
    Show notes

When we love the process of doing something, we are satisfied AS we create a result. When we only love the result of “having done” something, we are trying to live vicariously through the results of our actions.

For something to be sustainable, we must love the process AND the result.

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • When do you notice love the results but not the process?
    • When do you notice loving the results AND the process?
    • When you notice loving the process, what makes it enjoyable and sustainable?
    • What brings you genuine joy to do and be?

How To Get Your Spirit Returned Jul 06, 2023
    Show notes

When we return things we’ve purchased, we want our money back because we don’t want to invest it in the items we’ve purchased.

We must also ask for our “spirit” to be returned when we’ve invested our limited time and energy into a relationship, experience, or experience, and it’s time for it to be “over” or “closed” because:

    • the relationship or job must end
    • you no longer feel “animated” regarding the experience
    • something feels depleting, burdensome, flat or heavy

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • Where have you invested your energy and spirit and now want a “return”?
    • How willing are you to “call” your spirit back?
    • Where have you invested energy into old beliefs/narratives?
    • What do you notice feeling apathetic and flat?

Empty Nest Grief Jul 05, 2023
    Show notes

“Empty nest syndrome refers to the distress and other complicated emotions that parents often experience when their children leave home… parents may feel lonely, sad, and have some degree of grief when their children leave the nest, whether it’s to live on their own, start a college career, or pursue their own relationships. Women normally suffer more than men do, and feelings of sadness may be more pronounced among stay-at-home parents whose lives were organized around meeting the everyday needs of their children.”

    “Empty Nest Syndrome”

    Psychology Today

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • When your “nest” emptied, how do you experience feeling lonely?
    • How did you experience feeling sad?
    • How did you experience feeling loss, longing, or feeling lost?
    • Which identities are you grieving the loss of?
