    184: How Effective Leaders Practice Empathy Oct 13, 2022

    My guest for this episode is Rani Puranik. Rani is co-owner, EVP, and Global CFO of Houston-based Worldwide Oilfield Machine (WOM). Over 15 years, because of the frameworks she created, the company grew to more than $350 million in annual revenue. She has been named one of the "Top 25 Most Influential Women in Energy 2022" by Oil and Gas Investor and Hart Energy.

    Rani is passionate about mentoring the next generation of leaders. She has hosted a mentorship day at the Energy Leadership Institute of Houston High School, where she paired seniors with WOM company executives to help them refine energy product innovations. Rani serves as an HISD ROSES mentor supporting a program to empower female students, Rice University graduate students, and Energy Institute High School students interning at WOM. She also launched "WOMEN at WOM," a virtual event series to provide strategies and resources for female employees to advance both personally and professionally.

    Currently, Rani serves as the chairwoman of the Puranik Foundation located in Pune, India, which was founded over 20 years ago by her mother and is now managed by her oldest daughter. The nonprofit provides educational opportunities for under-resourced children in India and operates as a private residential school called the Vision International Learning Center.

    In her new book, coming in Spring 2023, Seven Letters to My Daughters, she shares memoirs of her journey through transformative seven-year phases in her life by telling the true story of a young girl who grew up between two countries and faced many obstacles, but who always persisted in learning and moving forward.

    Rani received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Pune, India, before starting her first business, Integral Search for Harmony through Art (ISHA), where she later served as CEO for nearly 20 years. She then returned to Houston, earning her MBA in finance from Rice University. Rani currently resides in Houston, Texas, where in her free time enjoys scuba diving, traveling, and spending time with family and her two rescue dogs. She is also a classically trained vocalist, musician, dancer, and certified yoga instructor.

    My guest for this episode is Carla Fowler, MD, Ph.D. Carla founded THAXA out of a passion for performance science, where the fields of strategy, productivity, and psychology intersect. Since its inception in 2013, THAXA's scientific approach to individualized coaching has attracted a devoted client base of dozens of executives at firms ranging from Fortune 500 technology companies to venture-backed startups to innovative nonprofits.

    Carla's coaching methods draw upon the multidisciplinary field of performance science to generate the best ideas surrounding strategy, execution, and mindset to assist leaders in their endeavors. Over the past 10 years, she has distilled the key principles of performance into understandable concepts and a method that helps leaders incorporate these ideas into their day-to-day performance, helping them go faster and improving their results.

    Outside of her coaching, Carla truly enjoys sharing her key performance principles with audiences while engaging in thought-provoking conversations surrounding her passion for performance science.

    Carla graduated from Brown University magna cum laude, earned her MD and Ph.D. at the University of Washington, and completed her internship in general surgery at Stanford University.

Mark has close to 2 decades of experience as a Director of Communications, Government Relations, Marketing, and Business Development as well as a consultant to nonprofits and associations. In addition to running Our Executive Director Association Management Services, Mark is also a board director for the Virtues Project International Association (VPIA).

    He has earned a solid reputation for the building, management, and promotion of member programs to increase the bottom-line and improving member services and benefits.     180: From the Trenches: Executive Director Challenges Sep 08, 2022

    My guest for this episode is Stephanie Minor. Stephanie is a veteran fundraising professional, nonprofit executive, and strategic development coach whose proven fundraising strategies have won big grants and gifts for important and impactful nonprofit causes. She joined NPO Centric as its Director in 2019, where she advances the work of nonprofits through capacity building and technical assistance.

    Stephanie started her professional career as a communicator and social media strategist after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Cal State San Bernardino. Through her own firm, Premiere Designs, LLC, she planned, developed, and executed successful integrated social media and website content strategies for a variety of clients, including organizations in the nonprofit sector.

    In 2015, she was offered an opportunity to serve on the staff of Martha's Village & Kitchen, one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County. As the director of development, she launched a successful $5 million capital campaign and became the executive vice president of the organization. She also won the "Best Pitch" award through the RAP Foundation's 2018 Desert Fast Pitch competition for nonprofits. Through her powerful 3-minute pitch about the plight of homeless children in California, she was awarded a donation of $20,000 toward the creation of a space in the residential unit of Martha's Village & Kitchen exclusively for homeless children.
