Join us as we turn back the hands of time to 1999 to discuss the charms of Drew Barrymore and the angst of high school clicks. Just listen to this storyline:

Josie Geller, a baby-faced junior copywriter at the Chicago Sun-Times, must pose as a student at her former high school to research contemporary teenage culture. With the help of her brother, Rob, Josie infiltrates the inner circle of the most popular clique on campus. But she hits a major snag in her investigation — not to mention her own failed love life — when she falls for her dreamy English teacher, Sam Coulson.

Never Been Kissed teaches us to be true to ourselves. It also teaches us that if we ever want to catch a man like Sam Coulson, we should go undercover immediately at the nearest high school.

Hello everyone!

Today’s podcast is another in my “It’s a Love Story” series, sponsored by my book of the same name, which celebrates four years of existence this month. What in the world?

We’ve done 21 of these episodes, and traditionally, when we come up with a quintessential love story, something a little more mainstream than Grease 2 comes to mind. I imagine the majority of you haven’t even seen Grease 2, let alone knew it existed. I’d like to take this time to plead my case. Just listen to this synopsis:

Stephanie Zinone is the leader of Rydell High School’s Pink Ladies, a gang of girls who are counterparts of the school’s group of greasers called the T-Birds. Stephanie is tired of her relationship with top T-Bird Johnny Nogerelli, so she breaks up with him and quickly catches the eye of English exchange student Michael Carrington. Hoping to win her over, Michael tries to overcome his nerdy ways while holding off the jealous Johnny.

Grease 2 taught us that brainy students who know Shakespeare can also be cool riders. We learned that high school talent shows in the 60s had legitimate production value, and anyone can learn the ins and outs of reproduction through the magic of song and dance. It was fun AND educational.

Hello everyone!

We’ve made it through an entire season of ups and downs, and finally, we have the answer to who Zach chose at the end of his journey to find love. Some Guy in Austin and I break the finale down, discussing many important details, such as:

Was Ariel’s “After the Final Rose” dress inspired by Princess Leia or a Greek goddess?
What did Gabi put in her hair to create such a slick ponytail? And was she going for the girls in Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love” video? Or was her outfit just a metaphorical flipping of the bird to Zach in the form of a severe black get-up that screams, “I’m doing just fine. I know my dress appears that I’m prepping for heart surgery, but there’s no need to worry about me. Paradise, here I come!”
We also wonder if there’s such a thing as being too honest.
And finally, we debate if Zach is a schmuck.

PS: The answer is yes, he is a schmuck. A nice schmuck, but schmuck nonetheless.

I’m about to say something you never thought you’d hear from me, Lincee Ray, who has been recapping this “darling” reality show for twenty years. Are you ready?

The Bachelor made me wiser. I actually gained knowledge while watching on Monday night. Going into the debacle, I would not have been able to point to Estonia on a world map. Now, if one day I’m asked, I can report that it is a hop, skip, and jump over the Baltic Sea from Finland.

This is big news, my friend. HUGE. Why?

Because I also learned that Estonia is the perfect place to fall in love. Where else can you find your future mate while dabbling in witchcraft, hanging out with nude old people in hot tubs, and participating in the age-old “wife-carrying” competition? Grab your passport, single people. We’re going to Eastern Europe!
