EP193: Making the Leap into Starting a Hair Salon Business Together, with Jack Mead & Lydia Wolfe Mar 22, 2021
Show notes I love a great story of dedication, commitment and romance. Well this podcast today certainly ticks all of them boxes, as I’m sitting down for a conversation with husband and wife and hairdressing duo, Jack Mead and Lydia Wolfe.

I only really got to know about Jack and Lydia over the last year through their growing presence on social media. But away from the high profile personas that they have created, is an incredible story that goes much deeper into this talented young couple. Through hard work and a passion for what they want out of life, they have gone about setting up their boutique hair salon ‘Jack and the Wolfe’ in a gorgeous coastal village in the South of England.

Jack and Lydia will be revealing how they took the risk of setting up their salon business whilst still developing a blossoming new relationship, and all on a limited budget. It’s a great listen for all of you wanting some guidance on how opening a salon doesn’t have to take huge amounts of money. But you will need to ask yourself these two questions: What are you prepared to give up to making this happen? How emotionally ready are you for running your own business?

I have so much respect for Jack and Lydia. Not only for all the industry accolades and determination they have, but more for simply being a lovely humble couple who are carving out the best future they can, for both them and their daughter.

Want even more from this interview with Jack and Lydia, then tune into this weeks premium Xtra Show podcast HERE.

Show notes I don’t know about you, but I’m hearing lots of noise that theres a new shift taking place in mens hair trends. From mullets, tossled texture and 90’s Revival, ask yourself: How technically prepared are you to cater for these new looks that men will be visiting us all for? To help shed more light on this is the Head of Education for progressive London’s men’s grooming brand Manifesto, Rino Riccio.

In his twenties he was introduced to the incredible world of session styling and developed a real passion for this type of hairdressing and the incredible buzz of working backstage at a fashion show.

Rino is the natural fit for me to talk to when it comes to learning everything that’s mens hair trends post-Lockdown 2021. He will be bringing to this episode all his wealth of experience and knowledge that he has gathered from the world of mens hairdressing and session. EP190: The Struggle of a Hairdresser Battling Dyslexia and ADHD, with Dean Bradwell Mar 01, 2021
Show notes Todays podcast tells the powerful story of hairdresser who’s struggles with dyslexia and ADHD has not stopped them from becoming one of the UK’s most dynamic and show stopping hair performers. But it could have all been so different.

Low self-esteem, behaviour problems, learning and frustration was just some of the battles todays guest, Dean Bradwell, has had to face in life as a Dyslexic. Difficulties in reading and writing could have stopped Dean from reaching his full potential. No chance!

Three times finalist in the North East British Hairdressing Awards, finalist in the Alternative Hair Awards and working for product companies throughout America and Europe, hairdressing has allowed him to express his rebellious and outside the box thinking to achieving a successful pathway in his hairdressing career. But it hasn’t – or does it continue to be easy, for this hair maverick.

Dyslexics are often very creative individuals. This is because they are often trying to find other ways to solve problems, learn things differently, or make things easier, giving them the capability to be groundbreaking innovators. Something that Dean has bags of!

What a love most in this story is Dean sharing how the teachings of hairdressing didn’t always make sense … Until now!

EP189: Understanding and Dealing with Hair Loss, with Zoe Irwin & Mark Blake Feb 22, 2021
Show notes Linked to many causes, hair loss can be deeply upsetting. Understanding and dealing with clients suffering hair loss needs to be done professionally and with sensitivity. That’s exactly what our special guests, Zoe Irwin and Mark Blake, will help us learn more about today. We owe it to ourselves, businesses and clients to tune into this episode. It will take us deeper into why being more knowledgeable on hair loss will be critical post-COVID-19.

With lots of reports in the press linking COVID-19 to hair loss, do we know of any proof that connect the two?

Leading globally recognised trichologist and NIOXIN Ambassador, Mark Blake, says this pandemic has had a major impact on hair loss. However, it is not just those who have had COVID-19 who will be suffering from hair loss, for many people the past year has been incredibly stressful, and stress and hair loss are intricately connected.

Being an all-round hair professional, hair loss is a conversation that we all need to have. But let’s get honest here! The topic of hair loss is very easy to get lost in such a creative industry that we all work. Also throw into the mix the understanding the science behind it, has many of us running for the hills in fear.

But fear not! NIOXIN Editorial Ambassador and one of the hairdressing most inspirational figureheads, Zoe Irwin, says, “Don’t try and be too medical when it comes to talking about hair loss to your clients. Use language clients really understand!” And being able to offer Nioxin, the world’s number one¹ Global Selling Salon Brand for thicker, fuller² hair, gives you the comfort in knowing that you have the solutions at your disposable when it comes to dealing with hair loss many of our clients will be suffering post–COVID-19.

    Let’s go to it!

EP188: Daniel Granger – Hairdressing Saved My Life! Feb 15, 2021
Show notes Today’s title ‘Hairdressing Saved my Life’ sounds dramatic. For sure! But that’s what hairdressing literally did for todays guest, Daniel Granger.

Sometimes the most beautiful people are beautifully broken.

A successful salon owner of Daniel Granger Hairdressing, hairdresser of TV’s ‘Body Fixers’, global educator, Schwarzkopf Ambassador, motivational speaker and blessed with Hollywood good looks, Daniel has it all. But behind all of this is an emotional and powerful story to Daniels life. Something we’re truly honoured for him to share with us all in his own words today. It’s a gripping and open podcast, revealing so many of Daniel’s most personal and darkest moments that has shaped him to become the person that he now is.

After his father passed, at the age of fourteen, Daniel tells of how he was given a pair of clippers, with the intention of saving money by cutting hair from home. This gave him his life purpose, and so much more than he could have ever realised back then.

When life gives you so many reasons to breakdown and lose hope, Daniel is proof that there a so many reasons to stay strong. Let go of what was and have faith in what the universe will bring you. This is the faith Daniel takes into his life. Mix that with the philosophy of hard work, determination and always holding on to that dream, its easy to understand why he has found so many wins in his hairdressing career.

If life feels like it’s getting on top of you, I guarantee this episode will help you to take a deep breathe, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. Tomorrow is a new day of hope and dreams.

EP186: The New Era of Artistic Teams, with Craig Chapman & Ashleigh Hodges Feb 01, 2021
Show notes I’m always excited to learn of new concepts and ideas for our hair industry. So for todays podcast we’re about to learn why HAIRDOTCOM Art Team has been described as the new era of Artistic Teams, that’s changing the face of the hairdressing industry by bringing us the first ever collective Art Team.

The brainchild of former guest of the show Ashleigh Hodges and Craig Chapman, HAIRDOTCOM Art Team brings together a collaboration of talented hairdressers from across the globe.

In this conversation we learn about this unique Art Team and how no matter what salon or brand it’s collective members work for, they each come together to collaborate on everything from working backstage on a TV show, advertising campaigns or with celebrities at the major awards, to the creation of editorial haircuts, the perfect balayage or delivering a brand’s education programme. The HAIRDOTCOM Art Team consists of leading hairdressers, stylists, photographers and well-being experts..

With the rise of online education, the HAIRDOTCOM Art Team has recently launched HAIRDOTCOM at Home, that brings essential hairdressing education to salons stuck in lockdown. I’m keen to find out more on this, too.

What I love most about the HAIRDOTCOM Art Team is it’s ethos of bringing the industry together and showing the true power of collaboration. Take a listen to hear why.
