    How to be a Minimalist

The How to be a Minimalist podcast is all about exploring minimalism and the many areas of life it touches. I’ll be talking a lot more about how to live an experience-based life, emotional minimalism, and how to discover your minimalist WHYS than the most efficient, space-saving technique for folding your undies or how to create a minimalist-magazine-cover home. Don’t worry, though — there will be some of those types of things, too. But here, I’d like to dive in deeper than simply living with less.

If you’ve listened to this podcast even somewhat regularly, you’ll know that I hate cleaning. This is especially tedious for me when the mess has built up, so I’ve learned to not let that happen. Even if I can’t get to the bigger daily chores, these are the few things we do almost every single day to ensure our home stays pleasant and manageable.

    Show notes

Ditching and donating when the weather seasons are changing is a great way to work on downsizing. Not only are you more easily able to see what you haven’t worn and can donate those pieces, but going through your clothing can help you to be more selective about what you bring in for the coming season.

    Minimalism and Frugality — Ep. 42 Aug 31, 2020
    Show notes

Have you ever been torn between your minimalistic values and saving a clean piece of aluminum foil to use some other time? I’ve been there, for sure. I went from saving everything “in case I needed it”, to tossing everything after one use. In many ways, I’m really glad I went through this transformation because it ultimately led me to finding a balance between those two things. I now keep what I will use while also managing to have a very minimalist and frugal home.

Practicing Minimalism by yourself has its own complexities, but practicing as a couple is a completely different story. While my husband and I are now on the same page — most of the time — we weren’t always, which has led to both struggle and growth. These four practices have helped us to work our way through the difficult minimalist moments, as well as work on building a lifestyle we love.

There are so many different ways minimalism has saved us money, it will be a recurring theme on this podcast. All of the emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits of minimalism are wonderful and I certainly go into some of that here. However, there’s also this other side that’s simply practicality and there’s NOTHING wrong with that. I hope you enjoy the episode!

I learned about the Law of Attraction, Thoughts Become Things, and the Power of Positive Thinking nearly a decade ago, but I feel like I’m just now learning to harness the power of this kind of positivity, combined with knowing what I want, and also taking action. The final push for me giving these kinds of mindsets a try? Negativity was getting me nowhere.
