Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) Apr 20, 2022
    Show notes

We're not bad, we're just drawn that way! And we're headed to Toontown to discuss Robert Zemeckis' looney tune-y cinematic masterpiece (and every child's nightmare fuel) Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)!

Join us as we worship at the altar of Jessica Rabbit before applying a queer reading to Judge Doom (Don't be a sourpuss! He's a quintessential self-hating queer figure that might fall into the queer killer trope).

Plus: our lengthiest production history yet, discussing the film's incredibly dark source material, sexy Patty Cake, and oh my God it's DIIIIIIIIIIIIIP! All this for a freeway? You bet! And we're gonna handle it JUST. LIKE. THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!

Let The Right One In (2008) feat. Chandler Bullock Apr 13, 2022
    Show notes

It's time for another gorgeous vampire film as we finally tackle Tomas Alfredson's Let The Right One In (2008). Along for the ride is The Beauty of Horror's Chandler Bullock, who connects deeply with the depiction of bullying in the film. Expect all three of us to get very candid!

In addition to bullying, we unpack a multiplicity of trans readings for Eli, the eternal 12 year vampire, as well as debate at length whether the end of the film is a tragedy, a love story or both.

Plus: Trace's thirst for child blood, Chandler and Trace's take on the stage production, a missed Oscar opportunity and Joe fills in the gaps between the book, the Swedish film and its American remake (for a lot more on that, check out his YA adaptation podcast Hazel & Katniss & Harry & Starr which did a tie-in episode)

Near Dark (1987) feat. Kyle Adam Foster Apr 06, 2022
    Show notes

Black out your car windows because we're driving through the American West with Jesse Hooker's gang in Kathryn Bigelow's seminal vampire Western Near Dark (1987). Joining us for the trip is Kyle Adam Foster!

Join us as we dive into all the hoops Bigelow had to jump through just to get this film made (a woman doing "man movies?" Who'da thought?!) before diving into the film's bungled release, which led to its commercial failure and "flop" status.

Plus: an in-your-face AIDS allegory, questionable blood transfusions, Bill Paxton worship, an uninteresting central romance, and that awesome bar fight set piece. Near Dark has it all, folks!

    Piranha 3D (2010) feat. Megan Sunday Mar 30, 2022
    Show notes

Slather that sunscreen on your nose and get those boobies ready because we're doing Spring Break a little late this year as we discuss Alexandre Aja's incredibly fun and incredibly gory Piranha 3D (2010). Joining us for the fun is Megan Sunday, the co-host of the Let's Get Weirding podcast!

Join us as we discuss the film's shockingly troubled post-production process (leading to some no-so-great CGI), the film's treatment of women, the dicks of both Jerry O'Connell and Adam Scott, and that nude, lesbian, underwater ballet sequence.

Plus: More Weinstein woes, #JusticeForDanni, Trace's geography struggles, and Dina Meyer done dirty (again!). Oh, and and how about the fact that this almost became an Alan Smithee film?

    Peeping Tom (1960) Mar 23, 2022
    Show notes

We're jetting back to 1960 to check out Michael Powell's classic Peeping Tom.

First: forget Psycho (ok, we can't help but make comparisons!). But really, this film deserves more attention and recognition, and not just because it's a trivia question in Scream 4!

Joe is adamant that the film is about more than gendered violence, while Trace has all of the medical deets about scopophilic fetishism aka voyeurism.

Plus: a Scorcese save, penis tripods, films within films (Singin' in the Rain!), the film's interest in disability, and our love of these female characters, especially Moira Shearer's Vivian.

Death Drop Gorgeous (2021) feat. Tom & Lorenzo Mar 16, 2022
    Show notes

For the final entry of our "underrated or underseen" theme, we're talking DIY drag horror film Death Drop Gorgeous (2021). Joining us are fashion and culture bloggers and podcasters Tom & Lorenzo, the married couple who literally wrote the book on RuPaul and queer lifestyle.

This hilarious conversation repeatedly observes the way that only gay men could have made this film. Plus: in defense of sissy femme stereotypes, celebrations of big mouthed drag queens, memories of Joe’s time working in the gay bar, using wigs as cum rags, googling Pup play, and why this film is Holiday Horror.
