Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings (2011) Dec 14, 2022

Show notes

Zip up your ski jackets and look for the sanitarium on the ridge because we're talking about the origin story of the Hillicker brothers with Declan O'Brien's 2011 prequel, Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings.

Don't worry if you haven't seen the other films; the most confusing part of this movie is keeping its cast of generic (white) actors apart (Vincent or Kyle? Jenna or Kenia?) Thankfully we've got great practical gore to make up for terrible acting and characterizations.

Plus: the shocking truth about the CGI, explicit lesbian sex scenes, Fahrenheit to Celsius conversions, and why we mean it as a compliment when we say this film is stupid fun.

25 Reasons We Love Scream 2 Dec 12, 2022

Show notes

We're celebrating the 25th anniversary of Scream 2 (1997) with a special bonus episode outlining twenty-five random reasons we love the horror sequel.

From the obvious quotes and iconic chase sequences to the unusual sound cues and songs that Trace can't remember, it was hard to narrow the list down to just 25.

But we're guessing that - unlike Mickey's claim - you will be able to see our #1 choice coming.

Batman & Robin (1997) feat. Kill By Kill Dec 07, 2022

Show notes

Please don't send us to the cooler because we're continuing an annual December tradition by covering a Batman film! Only this time it's Joel Schumacher's 1997 disaster Batman & Robin. Joining us for the conversation are return guests Patrick and Gena of the Kill By Kill podcast!

Join us as we try to figure out exactly what happened with this *waves hands frantically* thing. We go all in on what works (Uma! Colorful lighting!) and what doesn't (pretty much everything else) about this much-maligned Batman film. Stay cool, everyone!

Cat People (1942) feat. Dr. Heather Petrocelli Nov 30, 2022

Show notes

Get ready for Big Cat action because we're tackling another Val Lewton film: 1942's Cat People. Joining us with incredible insights courtesy of her (forthcoming) book Queer For Fear is Dr. Heather Petrocelli.

We're talking about the power and legacy of subtextual queer horror, how Otherness intermingles with queerness, why you shouldn't hate Alice too much (but Oliver needs to die), and the infamous Lewton bus and pool scenes.

Plus: film noir lighting, the return of The Seventh Victim's predatory Dr. Judd, and comparisons to the 80s remake (Tits! Incest! Malcolm McDowell!)

Chucky S02E08: 'Chucky Actually' Nov 24, 2022

Show notes

We're wrapping up S02 of Don Mancini's Chucky with a new slate of cliffhangers and questions, including: was GG voiced by Seed of Chucky's Billy Boyd and will we ever see Lachlan Watson again? Is Devon and Jake's relationship on sturdier ground (and why didn't they fuck?!) Will Caroline be aged up or killed off?

Plus: the second best death of the season, thoughts on the Dr. Mixter retcon, questions about the heart of Damballa and playful references back to the original Child's Play

Addams Family Values (1993) feat. nicksaysboo Nov 23, 2022

Show notes

Make sure you've got a Ballerina Barbie instead of a Malibu Barbie because we're going toe-to-toe with the delicate and graceful Debbie Jellinsky in Barry Sonnenfeld's superb sequel Addams Family Values (1993)! Joining us for the discussion is Nick of the nicksaysboo YouTube reaction channel!

After we briefly discuss the first film's production woes, we go into the many reasons how the sequel improves upon nearly every aspect of the already wonderful original film. This is, of course, mainly due to Christina Ricci's expanded role and the introduction of a delightfully unhinged performance from Joan Cusack.

Plus: political commentary, the joys of being privileged, reading the Addams's as a queer family unit, and what might be the best Thanksgiving play ever put on stage. Don't trust Sarah Miller, y'all.

Chucky S02E07: 'Goin' to the Chapel' Nov 17, 2022

Show notes

We're continuing our coverage of S02 of Don Mancini's Chucky with a discussion on the penultimate episode which, to be honest, feels like a season finale! So many loose ends are tied up in this episode, but how does it all come together? We have thoughts!
