Tammy and the T-Rex (1994) feat. Erick Lorinc May 31, 2023

Show notes

Prepare your tiny little puppet hands because we're discussing Stewart Raffill's cult classic Tammy and the T-Rex (1994). Along for the ride is director Erick Lorinc, who is such a super fan of the film that he's cried watching it!

This is a very funny, silly, and surprisingly heartfelt film with a genuinely good performance from Denise Richards.

Plus: gay best friend Byron and homophobic cops, ejaculating brains, worshipping Helga and Wendy, the Gore Cut vs the PG-13 cut, and sequels/spin-offs we would watch in a heartbeat.

Annihilation (2018) feat. Nightmare on 5th Street May 24, 2023

Show notes

Get ready to mutate because we're heading into the weird, wonderful and terrifying world of Alex Garland's Annihilation (2018)! Joining us for the conversation are Alma and Dalia of the Nightmare on 5th Street podcast!

Join us as we try our best to analyze this admittedly dense film, with discussions on how it works as an adaptation, the casting controversy, the likability of certain characters and (of course) that weird as hell climax.

Plus: refraction action, horrifying mutated bears, cancer metaphors and one giant soap bubble.

Elephant (2003) May 17, 2023

Show notes

Just in time for its 20th Cannes anniversary, we're talking about gay director Gus Van Sant's Elephant (2003) which takes a fictional docuseries approach to the Columbine massacre. C/W for anyone involved in a (school) shooting.

Expect a lot of talk about the film's technical elements: the long takes, the dispassionate violence, the use of non-professional actors in a real school, and the lack of a conventional beginning/middle/end.

Plus: nuanced queer inclusion, debate about Gus Van Sant's "message", praise for Ebert's review, and Trace's thoughts on Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine.

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? (1962) feat. Tyrone Williams May 10, 2023

Show notes

Chop up those rats and tomatoes and practice your vaudeville act because we're joined by guest Tyrone Williams to discuss Robert Aldrich's What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? (1962).

Obviously the "feud" looms large over this film, so Trace has done a mega deep dive into the careers of both Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, this production and what followed.

Plus: overusing the word "cloche", Oscar talk, a neat vs on the rocks hard liquor tangent, accusations of familiarity, a queer reading of Edwin, and debate about whether Blanche lives or dies.

Night of the Creeps (1986) feat. Patrick Walsh May 03, 2023

Show notes

Cindy! Brad's here! And don't let him fondle your breasts because the slugs are invading, which means we're discussing Fred Dekker's delightfully sweet sci-fi comedy horror film Night of the Creeps (1986)! Joining us for the conversation is Patrick Walsh, the host of the ScreamQueenz podcast!

Join us as we discuss the film's botched release before we go all in on a queer reading of JC (Steve Marshall) as the film's "gay best friend." Plus: disabled representation, two different endings, one very resourceful slug-infested dog and why "purée" is the gayest button on the blender.
