Friday the 13th (2009) feat. Amir Moini Feb 14, 2024

Show notes

Keep those stupendous fake tits out of the field of pot because we're talking Platinum Dunes' 2009 remake, Friday the 13th.

Joining us to tackle perfect nipple placement, underwhelming kills, and all things Willa Ford is filmmaker Amir Moini.

Up for discussion: is the remake really that bad? Are the tunnels a dealbreaker? Is *anyone* surprised that Whitney survives and Jenna dies?

Plus: praise for Aaron Yoo, the ~24 minute opener, blood and nudity in the "Final Cut," and a third swinging light death sequence!

The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) feat. Amanda Jane Stern Feb 07, 2024

Show notes

We apologize for the intelligence of our remarks, but we're delving into every gay man's worst nightmare (aging) in Albert Lewin's The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945). Tagging in for the conversation is writer and filmmaker Amanda Jane Stern, who turns out to be an enormous fan of the source material!

Join us as we go all in on this adaptation of Oscar Wilde's only novel, but not before discussing the tragedy that is Wilde's life. We then discuss Hollywood's "straightening" of this very queer story, and bask in the glory of what is Angela Lansbury's third film role.

Plus, one very cruel Slut Test™, four stellar Technicolor shots (seriously), a presumably enormous confetti budget, Egyptian cat magic, one extremely unnecessary narrator and an even more unnecessary Gladys.

Re-Animator (1985) Jan 31, 2024

Show notes

It's time to revisit H.P. Lovecraft with a dip into horror comedy/exploitation territory and Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator (1985). C/W: sexual assault and the cat dies (again and again)

We're praising Jeffrey Combs' perfect performance, the tricky tonal balance (including the Dr. Hill/Megan assault), and the gory practical FX in this mad doctor film.

Plus: a queer reading of Herbert and Dan, multiple editions, naked fight scenes, and why the film deserves to be seen with a crowd.

The Roommate (2011) feat. Ali Chappell Jan 24, 2024

Show notes

Put on your best fedora and pull that cat out of the dryer because we're discussing Christian E. Christiansen's teeny-bopper ripoff of Single White Female, The Roommate (2011)! Tagging in for the conversation is one of the film's superfans: Ali Chappell.

Join us as we try (TRY) to figure out who thought this movie was a good idea, because nearly nothing in this shameless ripoff works. From it's incredibly stupid lead character to its complete lack of tension, it's a real misfire. God bless Leighton Meester, though, who at least tries to do something with a nothing role.

Ultimately, The Roommate feels more like a business decision than an artistic one, which is a bummer given the cast that its working with. But hey, we've still got a semi-decent shower scene and a semi-thrilling climactic battle so....there's that?

The Covenant (2006) Jan 17, 2024

Show notes

Q: What do you get when you cross The Lost Boys with The Craft but make it awful?

A: J.S. Cardone and Renny Harlin's The Covenant (2006), which features hot boy witches throwing globs of CGI semen at each other!

We have so much to say about this nonsense, including its overly complicated mythology and self-serious tone, villainous bisexual king Chase (played by Sebastian Stan), thankless damsels in distress, and addiction/gay allegories (paging Buffy S06).

Plus: insects vs spiders, throwing the script supervisor under the bus, and why Stephen McHattie should have had a bigger role!
