The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) feat. Jordan Gustafson Apr 03, 2024

Show notes

Scratch out that passport photo and don't be boring because we're discussing Anthony Minghella's 1999 adaptation, The Talented Mr. Ripley! Tagging in for the conversation is Jordan Gustafson, the co-host of the Queer Quadrant Podcast!

Join us as we go all in on this adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's classic novel, from Matt Damon's stellar performance as evil twink Tom Ripley to Jude Law's massive cakes. The film also puts a heavier emphasis on Tom's queerness, so you know we'll have a lot to say about that!

Plus: homoerotic bathtub chess matches, a lengthy tangent on the Oscars, and a compulsive need for more Cate Blanchett.

Hear about all of the adaptation problems with H.G. Wells' source material! Gasp at the way the FX were accomplished! Groan whenever Flora is onscreen doing absolutely nothing!

Plus: MVP Una O'Connor, Kemp's tragic/hilarious death, and a "dick out" queer reading

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) feat. Gory Cory Mar 20, 2024

Show notes

Round up your free "miners" because we're discussing Raja Gosnell's live-action cartoon and Razzie "winner" Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004). Tagging back in for the conversation is returning guest (see our episode on the original Scooby-Doo film) Cory McCullough, aka Gory Cory!

Join us as we celebrate all things Scooby-Doo with a deep dive into the film's plethora of monsters (including some that didn't make it into the final cut!), ponder what could have been in the cancelled Scotland-set third film, and debate whether or not this is actually a stealth prequel to the first film.

Plus, Velma's lesbian erasure, Seth Green's affinity for dating queer women, a controversial pay cut from Freddie Prinze Jr., a potential transphobic read and many, many more fart jokes.

Micro Queers: The Piper (2023) Mar 18, 2024

Show notes

Break out your flute because we're talking about queer director Erlingur Thoroddsen's latest film, The Piper!

We like this fine. The story is a bit too familiar, but the technical elements make up for that.

Plus: Julian Sands' last role, a gnarly kill scene, and wishing the Harbinger had more to do.
