The Mummy (1999) feat. Bright Light Bright Light May 01, 2024

Show notes

Don't read from the Book of the Dead and definitely don't pick up any of those Scarab jewels, because we're discussing Stephen Sommers' masterful action-adventure-horror-romantic-comedy The Mummy (1999), just in time for its 25th anniversary! Tagging in for the conversation is Welsh singer-songwriter Rod Thomas, aka Bright Light Bright Light!

Join us as we go all in on this summer blockbuster spectacle. From the bisexual energy of a perfectly cast Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to a rather wild and incredibly lengthy production history (Clive Barker was involved???), we've got you covered on all things The Mummy!

Plus: how Babe: Pig in the City almost ruined Universal, an educational conversation about Rotten Tomatoes, and one major disagreement over a drunk acting scene!

eXistenZ (1999) feat. Vannah Taylor Apr 24, 2024

Show notes

Lube up your industry standard bio-port because we're playing David Cronenberg's eXistenZ (1999) with someone friendly: Vannah Taylor!

David Cronenberg's meditation on the dangers of gaming and simulation is the middle entry of an unofficial trilogy. It's also a film that gets real confusing, real fast, so good luck figuring out if we're still in the game!

Plus: criticisms of a "bland" game world, praise for Jennifer Jason Leigh, Canadian royalty, comparisons to Serenity, disgusting gristle guns, and Pikul getting his back blown out (several times!)

Chucky Queers: S03E05 "Death Becomes Her" Apr 11, 2024

Show notes

Chucky returns for Part 2 of S03 and while we're unsure what the title "Death Becomes Her" refers to, we like this as a reintroduction.

There's a bit of Tilly, some cherry popping and some eye gouging.

Plus: is First Lady Charlotte gonna fuck Pryce? Will Henry team up with Caroline? And will Devon or Grant make it to S04?

An American Werewolf in London (1981) feat. Xero Gravity Apr 10, 2024

Show notes

Try not to wolf out because we're talking about John Landis' classic, An American Werewolf in London (1981). Backpacking along with us is Xero Gravity, who went on a werewolf binge and has recommendations!

Up for discussion: Alex's underdeveloped character, urban set pieces, dirty movie theaters, and British rural horror.

Plus: a queer reading of David and Jack's relationship, Jewish horror, an unsexy sex scene, and extended tangents about werewolf anatomy.
