Why Nobody Warned Lindsay Clancy's Husband Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

Patrick Clancy took the stand as the prosecution's lead witness. He gave them the 911 call — seven minutes of a father finding his three children with exercise bands around their necks, screaming into the phone while attempting CPR on a five-year-old, a three-year-old, and an eight-month-old. The courtroom broke. The judge called a recess. A reporter who's covered trials for four decades called it one of the worst things he's ever heard. But Patrick Clancy also gave the jury something the prosecution didn't plan on. He described driving Lindsay to ERs twice, watching her get prescribed medication after medication, pushing her to check into McLean Hospital when she didn't want to go, and asking her directly whether she needed to be kept from the children. She said no. And no provider in her care — not one — ever contradicted that. Tony unpacks every piece of testimony from the trial's most critical witness, the prosecution's pill-bottle strategy, the defense motion over Lindsay's internet searches, and the systemic failure that left three children unprotected by the institutions responsible for their mother's care.

Bryan Kohberger Waited Until THIS Was Announced Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Netflix premiere date was public two weeks before Bryan Kohberger said anything, and he spoke on the Sunday night right before it. That sequence is where this conversation starts.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott get into the audience management underneath the Idaho student murders reversal, rather than the legal filing everybody else is parsing.

Here is the sequence. Sunday night, a statement to the New York Times. Monday, a self-filed petition for post-conviction relief in Ada County District Court. Wednesday, a three-part documentary built by director Skye Borgman specifically to return the focus to Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.

One of those three things was not on his calendar by accident.

The conversation goes into whether someone in his position is even capable of letting a spotlight pass, what he gains from the people thanking him back, and the two historical cases that make this look less like a modern media problem and more like a permanent feature of the type. Holmes selling a hundred deaths and then unselling them. Lucas confessing his way to steak dinners and day trips, and recanting the second the attention stopped.

The Goncalves family compared him to a mosquito nobody can quite swat, and said that if a fraction of the energy spent trying to free a guilty man went toward honoring the four who died, there would be statues on every corner.

There is also the family he thanked for never wavering in their belief in who he is. That is a different audience from the strangers analyzing the case online, and Scott separates the two, because what a person draws from each is not the same. One sustains a story. The other supplies a stage.

Watch the full conversation, and follow Hidden Killers Live for more.

Bryan Kohberger Claims He Was Told To Lie In Court Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

Bryan Kohberger says his own defense team told him to lie. That accusation sits at the center of the petition he filed to undo his guilty plea in the Idaho student murders, and it is his claim, not a finding by any court.

In documents filed in Ada County District Court, he alleges ineffective assistance of counsel, alleges he was convinced to falsely confess, and alleges he was promised a legal victory in exchange for a plea that did not have to be truthful. His attorneys have declined to comment.

Tony Brueski is joined by psychotherapist Shavaun Scott for a conversation that skips the motion practice and goes at the person filing it. Scott has spent decades in private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs, which makes her the right person for the question nobody in the news coverage is asking.

That question is whether the man writing these documents believes them.

Because there are two versions of this. In one, he is running a calculated play, testing whether a self-represented filing can pry open a case he closed himself. In the other, something genuinely reorganized during twelve months in a maximum security cell, and the file in his head no longer matches the transcript.

The episode also works through the language. Myopic narrative. Work of fiction. Justice circumnavigated. A criminology doctorate applied to his own murder conviction, in vocabulary that seems designed to be quoted.

There is also the question of what the writing itself is for. Very few people file a self-represented petition and simultaneously place a call to a national newspaper unless some part of the goal is an audience. Scott's read on that is not the obvious one, and it complicates the easy answer that all of this is pure calculation.

Listen to the full conversation, and follow Hidden Killers Live for more.

Why Nobody Counted Lindsay Clancy's Pills Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

Nine bottles, four months, more than one prescriber, and almost nothing gone out of any of them. That is what the prosecution entered into evidence on the opening day of testimony in the Lindsay Clancy trial, and the person they handed it to was the father of the three children who died. If you have been following Lindsay Clancy trial coverage, day one is where the case stopped being about January 24 and started being about a pharmacy counter. Patrick Clancy was the Commonwealth's first witness. Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague read him the counts bottle by bottle and asked whether he knew how many pills were missing from each. He did not. He said he was never keeping track, and that the context behind the numbers mattered. Nobody in the picture was tracking it. Not the husband, and according to two civil lawsuits now sitting in Norfolk Superior Court, not the people writing the prescriptions either. We break down what the state is trying to do with that exhibit, and why the same nine bottles look completely different depending on which lawyer is holding them up. We cover the September wedding conversation about a prescription that had already been filled the day before, the photos and video of a woman who looked fine to every single person who laid eyes on her, and the reason that footage is not the argument the prosecution thinks it is. And we get to the number Patrick Clancy gave investigators, the one that made a grieving father go hire an attorney and sue the people who had been treating his wife. The district attorney's office told this jury the trial is not about the medical system. Then they put the medical system on the stand.

Lindsay Clancy And Bryan Kohberger Were NOT The Only Ones Jul 30, 2026
    Show notes

The Lindsay Clancy trial and the Bryan Kohberger filing, covered together.

Tony Brueski and retired FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke work through the opening statements in Plymouth Superior Court and the petition Bryan Kohberger filed in Ada County District Court to undo his guilty plea.

The Clancy discussion covers Patrick Clancy's testimony about the last day and Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham's claim that Clancy was not in the throes of psychosis. It then covers the psychiatric hospitalization, including the discharge Patrick testified he never knew his wife had requested. Cora was five. Dawson was three. Callan was eight months old. Both sides agree how they died, and the Commonwealth has to prove criminal responsibility.

The Kohberger discussion covers the handwritten petition he filed representing himself, his claim that he is innocent and was talked into a false confession, and the position that puts former defense attorney Anne Taylor in. It also covers the letter Latah County prosecutors sent the families before the plea, promising no decades of post-conviction appeals. Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin died in Moscow in November 2022.

Two cases. Two institutions that made the calls. And in each one, a single person left holding all of it. The providers in Massachusetts are witnesses at most. The prosecutors in Idaho are not answering anything under oath. That is not an accident of either case. It is how both systems are built.

Both stories keep moving. Plymouth has weeks of medical and psychiatric testimony ahead, and Ada County has a ruling to make. Subscribe to Hidden Killers Live so you get each development as it lands.

Did Nolan Wells Ever Appear In That Viral Video?! Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Here is the uncomfortable thing about the Nolan Wells case: three weeks into any death investigation, a careful one and a slow burial look exactly the same from the outside. Both are quiet. Both say pending. Both ask you to wait without giving you any reason to believe the waiting ends somewhere good.

So how does anybody actually tell the difference? That is the whole show.

Nolan Xavier Wells was eighteen years old when he went to Horn Island on the Fourth of July and did not return with the friends who brought him. Two days on, a federal park ranger found him in the water. A state autopsy has been completed and sealed. An independent autopsy came back undetermined. A district attorney says nothing gets released until a grand jury reviews it.

We lay out three things a person can actually check instead of guessing. Whether the withholding has a rule behind it. Whether the record is growing while nothing is being announced. Whether the people asking questions are getting access or getting doors shut in their faces.

We run the most-shared piece of evidence in this case through that same standard, and it does not survive, for a reason that comes down to a single measurement.

We get into Mississippi's actual record, Rasheem Carter and Rankin County, and why the failure in both of those cases was not silence at all.

And we get into what is still genuinely owed to this family, including one statute that says a member of Nolan's family is entitled to a document nobody has handed over.

Bryan Kohberger Is NOT Afraid Of A Death Penalty Trial Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Bryan Kohberger took a deal to avoid the death penalty. He now says he would welcome prosecutors seeking it again.

About a year after he was sentenced to four consecutive life terms in the Idaho student murders, Kohberger filed a handwritten petition for post-conviction relief in Ada County District Court, representing himself. He claims his confession was false. He told the New York Times that his actual innocence is his truth and called the case against him a work of fiction.

Tony Brueski and retired FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke break down what changed, and what a reversal like this usually signals.

The filing alleges his defense team was ineffective and failed to disclose or review evidence in his favor. It alleges he was given a badly misleading picture of what life in an Idaho prison and Idaho's death row would look like. It blames threats and false promises for the plea.

This breakdown also covers why he can file at all after waiving his appeal rights. Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent with twenty-one years assessing human behavior, takes on the harder question. Does a man who says guilty under oath and innocent a year later believe either one?

Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin died in Moscow in November 2022. Their families were told the plea would end this. The Goncalves family, who wanted a capital trial from the start, say he got exactly what he asked for and now hates it. In their words, he wants another chance to roll the dice. They have also pointed out what a hearing would give him, including a break from solitary confinement and the spotlight back on his supposed innocence.

The court has not ruled, and these families are waiting again on a process they were told they would never sit through. Subscribe to Hidden Killers Live for the ruling when it lands and for the analysis of what comes after it.

Bryan Kohberger Says He NEVER Should Have Said Guilty Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Bryan Kohberger now says he never should have said the word guilty. He said it anyway, four times, in an Ada County courtroom, once for each of the four University of Idaho students he admitted killing.

This episode is about the gap between those two things, and about who was standing next to him the day he closed it. Kohberger is in segregated housing at Idaho's maximum security prison for the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. He admitted all four killings in an Ada County courtroom. Now he says that admission should be thrown out, and he has filed to make it happen without a lawyer attached.

We read what he wrote, and we look at how he wrote it, because the writing is the tell. We revisit the day he pleaded guilty, who was standing with him, and how much time he and his legal team had already spent going through the evidence. Then we get to the single sworn sentence that leaves his new claim with nowhere to go.

Underneath all of it is a letter these four families received before any deal was signed, containing a written promise about this exact scenario from someone who should have known better than to make it.

The Goncalves family responded the same day, took the petition apart, and had a few words about the outlet that handed him a platform in the first place.

Sourced from the court docket, the filings, and dated reporting on the University of Idaho case.

Lindsay Clancy Signed Herself Out And Told NOBODY Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Patrick Clancy learned in a courtroom that his wife had asked to be discharged from a psychiatric hospital weeks before their three children died.

He had brought her in himself on New Year's Eve 2022, after she told him she was having intrusive thoughts about hurting the children. She went to McLean in the early hours of January 1. She was out on January 5.

Tony Brueski and retired FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke break down what that stay involved and what the family was never told.

From the stand, Patrick said he was unaware she had requested the discharge. He said he was unaware she had been offered one-on-one therapy every day she was there, and unaware she had declined further group therapy. He testified that from what she described, it had not seemed like she was getting treatment, and that a weekend plus a holiday delayed her first doctor visit.

Asked about an insurance question raised in the case, his answer was blunt. He said he would not have cared and would have paid anything.

The reason she wanted to leave was Cora's fifth birthday party on January 7. Cora died on January 24.

Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent with twenty-one years assessing truthfulness under pressure, explains what a hospital can verify when a patient says the thoughts have stopped.

Cora was five, Dawson was three and Callan was eight months old. The trial is expected to run six to eight weeks, and the clinicians involved in her care are on a witness list approaching two hundred names.

Subscribe to Hidden Killers Live for coverage of the psychiatric testimony ahead in Plymouth.

Where Lindsay Clancy Took Cora That Morning Jul 29, 2026
    Show notes

Lindsay Clancy spent the morning of January 24, 2023 at a pediatric appointment with her five-year-old daughter.

That is where she was when her husband texted her a photo of their three-year-old, who had just dressed himself for the first time. She texted one back of Cora behind a mask at the doctor's office. Patrick Clancy told the jury about both.

He also told them about the snowman she built with the children when she got home, the art projects that followed, and how much better she had seemed since the holidays.

Tony Brueski and retired FBI behavioral analyst Robin Dreeke break down what that day does to this case.

Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham is using it. She told jurors this was not a woman in the throes of psychosis, and pointed to exactly this kind of ordinary competence. Kevin Reddington has to take the same hours and make them mean something entirely different.

The episode covers what the state says came after. A mapped route between the house, an unfamiliar restaurant and a CVS. Searches for dinner and for children's medicine. Patrick out the door around 5:15.

Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent with twenty-one years assessing behavior under pressure, explains why functioning is a far weaker signal than juries tend to believe.

Cora, Dawson and Callan died that night, and nobody disputes it. Criminal responsibility is the whole trial, and the Commonwealth has to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. If the jury finds she was not criminally responsible, she is committed to a state mental health facility rather than released.

Judge William Sullivan has told jurors to expect six to eight weeks.
