Show notes

Well, I hope everyone is having a groovy day. This week on Hi, Strangeness, I have on Michael Huntington and Joe Tury to discuss their film, Grand Tower: UFOs and Other High Strangeness! Friends, I really loved this doc. Joe directed a detailed historical account of many of the strange and unusual phenomenon reported in Grand Tower and the surrounding area. We're talking UFOs (of course), bigfoot, crytpids and other assorted weirdness. Also, they touch upon some of the history of the area, which beautifully paints a more clear picture of what's been going on in this river town. Get ready to add another window area to your weird bucket list, people! You can find Grand Tower: UFOs and Other High Strangeness on Apple, Amazon, Tubi etc. Enjoy!

Love, Steve

Michael Jasorka: The Herbert Schirmer UFO Experience Mar 06, 2025

Show notes

Hey buddies! This week I have on Michael Jasorka! Michael is a comic artist and expert on the 1967 Herbert Schirmer UFO encounter in Ashland, Nebraska. Michael created an amazing comic depicting (in Herbert's own words) his encounter, in great detail, I might add. As far as I know, Michael knows more about this case than anyone alive. He's one of the rare few who had meaningful correspondence with Herb before he died. This was a special one for me, as I'm obsessed with high strangeness in Nebraska. If you're into the Herb Schirmer story, or UFO history, this one is not to be missed! Enjoy!

Wren Collier: Occulty UFOs Feb 06, 2025

Show notes

Hi friends! This week I am joined by my great buddy (and fellow Bookhouse Boy) Wren Collier. Wren and I delve deep into our topic for this episode: the occult influence on the UFO question. We pick apart different cases, personalities, and cultural influences, all under the lens of Western occultism. This was such a blast for me. Wren is a practicing magician and is extremely well-read on UFOs, so having his point of view was such a treat. I hope you all enjoy!

Dean Bertram: The Shaver Mysteries Jan 30, 2025

Show notes

Hello, how is everyone doing? Great to hear! This week, I am joined by researcher, writer and filmmaker, Dean Bertram. Dean is currently in production on an incredible documentary (I've seen some segments and they are fantastic!) about the life of Richard Shaver. Shaver, while sometimes forgotten in the sea of UFO experiencers of the Twentieth Century, had one of the most unique narratives going. While folks were looking up, Shaver was looking down. Dean was kind enough to share his knowledge about Shaver's life and times, but also, we delve deep into the Maury Island incident, Ray Palmer, his own high strange experience, and more. This was a real treat for me. Dean has a great head on his shoulders, and has wonderful knack of fusing art and Forteanna that I love so much.
Love, Steve.

We barely scratched the surface of the strange and unusual in The Good Life state, so we will have to have John back for more. So, friends, I present to you, the first installment of Weird Nebraska. I hope you enjoy it!
