Show notes

Welcome to Episode 148

This week's show may feel a little different as we once again attempt to use the "live call in" feature of Riverside FM. We're still figuring it out but are loving the fact that we're able to get our listeners more involved with the show. It's not something that we'll utilize weekly, at least not yet. But it definitely adds a little something to the show and keeps things loose which is nice every once in a while. So we cast out a line and caught us one Rob Forrest, first time guest, graphic artist, awesome human being, and creator of our beloved HON logo. We weren't expecting to hear from Rob so it was awesome to finally get to talk to him. Rob stayed on the whole time with us and even reviewed "Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar" with us.

We also talked with Daniel Dominguez, friend of the show, ,lead singer for Farooq. Daniel also goes by vxDEDxv and we were happy to talk to him about his upcoming release "Clocked Out", which drops this Monday 3/1/21. Daniel is ridiculously talented so make sure to stick around until the very end to hear "Frontman" which features this guy you might know named S.E. Hudson. No joke: The amount of talent in the Heroes Of Noise Podcast Community alone really is astounding.

As for us, we get to talking about the recently announced Superman Reboot coming from Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J.J. Abrams, the lazy trend of reboots in general, Dan gives a spoiler free review of the A24 screening of "Minari" and more.

We hope you enjoy this episode and again want to thank you for your continues support. New Patreon episode coming soon!

Peace!

Interview With Martin Macphail of Blitz//Berlin, composers of the Psycho Goreman Original Score and So Much More Feb 12, 2021

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 146.

This is a special one, ladies and gentlemen. This week we were fortunate enough to be able to sit down with Martin MacPhail of the band Blitz//Berlin, who composed the original scores for movies like "Extraterrestrial", "It Stains The Sand Red", "Blade Runner 2036 "Nexus Dawn", "The Void", and most recently "P.G.: Psycho Goreman". Let's go back to a time when people sat in movie theaters. Remember that? Remember the feeling you got when you saw the trailer for Top Gun: Maverick? You know why you got that feeling? Because they did the fucking score for it. That's why.

Blitz//Berlin are the real deal. Recognize.

It was an absolute pleasure talking with Martin about music, movies, our mutual love for The Mars Volta, TMNT, and the amazing story of both hard work and chance that brought Blitz//Berlin to where they are today. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did recording it.

We want to thank Martin for taking the time to join us and hope to have him back on again sometime as we were nowhere near done with the conversation by the time he had to go.

We also want to thank Brian from Pop Culture Leftovers for joining us a s guest host this week. Be sure to subscribe to PCL, as they're one of the best podcasts out there.

Be sure to watch Psycho Goreman now on VOD and also buy the soundtrack in it's glorious vinyl form now on Wax Records

Lastly, we didn't stop recording when Martin left us. If you'd like to hear what else we recorded that day with Brian, you can join us on Patreon where you're guaranteed at least 2 bonus shows a month.

Enjoy!

The Little Things, #Like, and Palmer Feb 05, 2021

Show notes

Greetings Heroes!

Welcome to Episode 145. This week we're joined by our friend and special guest Rebekah Dahling from The Picardcast. Although she briefly joined us for a recent Patreon show, it's been a while since we've gotten the chance to catch up. We spend the first half of the show doing just that, discussing everything from Covid and everything that comes with it, Steve sleeping on WandaVision, the multiple blunders of the DCEU and Game Of Thrones, the death of Dustin Diamond, and troubled / Abusive celebrities.

ALL OF THE REVIEWS ON THIS EPISODE ARE FILLED WITH SPOILERS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Was that clear enough? Now for the reviews:

First up we talk about the new HBO Max Original "The Little Things", starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto.

We also talk about the drama/thriller #Like, now on VOD

Lastly we talk about theAppleTV+ original movie "Palmer" Starring Justin Timberlake

We wrap the show up with yet a little more love for Psycho Goreman now on VOD and free with your AppleTV+ subscription

Here's the link to the Psycho Goreman original soundtrack mentioned in the show.

Ok Heroes, go forth and change the world for the better. But only after you listen to our latest episode. You could also wear earbuds and do both at the same time, and that's what we like to call getting shit done. Have a great week. We'll be back before you know it.

Peace!

The Robinhood Scandal, Derek Delgaudio's In and of Itself, PG: Psycho Goreman, and Promising Young Woman Jan 29, 2021

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 144!

This week we start the show off with a little chatter which includes addressing the recent Robinhood Scandal and speculation on what's to come. We also talk about the vaccine shortage, Middle aged actors and the inevitable turn to drama, and Steve gives his thoughts on the recent HBO Max trailer while we watch it live.

When we get to what we've been watching, we give reviews of Derek DelGaudio's In and of Itself (Now on Hulu) and PG: Psycho Goreman (Now on VOD). Lastly Dan gives his quick thoughts on Promising Young Woman (Now On VOD).

Hope you don't mind the short and simple show notes. Remember, it's a podcast, not an essay. The real meat is in your headphones. Let's get to it, folks. We hope you enjoy this week's episode. Be sure to look out for a new Patreon episode this weekend as well.

Peace!

Night Stalker, WandaVision, Auto Woes, and An Inauguration Jan 23, 2021

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 143!

This week it's going to be more of a looser show. We spend some time catching up, talking about our current car situations. We follow that up with a talk about the inauguration of the 46th POTUS and what's to come (don't worry, it's not THAT political). We then wrap things up with a couple of discussions / reviews of the Night Stalker miniseries (Now on Netflix) as well as WandaVision (Now streaming on Disney+). Short, simple notes get the job done this week, ladies and gentlemen. It doesn't always need to be a novel.

With that we'll let you get to listening. Look out for a new Patreon episode coming next week as well as another regular episode that we'll drop into your feeds when you're not looking. We hope you have a fantastic weekend. OK, push "PLAY" now.

Armie Hammer The Cannibal?, Black Bear, and Pieces Of A Woman Jan 15, 2021

Show notes

Happy new year and welcome to Episode 142!

We hope you're all "enjoying" the sequel to 2020 so far. We're 2 weeks in and it already feels like 9 months. But even though 2021 has started off with sputters (to say the least), we feel we're starting this year off right. Before we get into the show, we wanted to let you know that we appeared on Episode 363 of Pop Culture Leftovers this past weekend. That episode was their first official episode of the year as well, so we had PLENTY (that is not understated) to talk about. It ended up being a 6.5 hour show and we were honored to be a part of it. Be sure to subscribe to Pop Culture Leftovers . You won't regret it. Brian and Jake are fantastic hosts.

Now then…

Before we get into the 2 reviews (4, if you count the quick mentions of "Extract" (2009) starring Jason Bateman, and "Strongest Man Of All Time" (Hulu) that we do at the end), here's some of the topics we discuss on this episode:

Dan got the 2nd vaccine
Mercedes the stripper
Wolf spiders
Jack Reacher v Jason Bourne v John Wick
Vinyl love and the search for a new turntable

In Noise News we were going to talk about several things, but decided to give all of our time to the recent Armie Hammer scandal that's developed online.

When we get to the reviews, we've both watched "Black Bear", Starring Aubrey Plaza, now on VOD), as well as the new Netflix Original "Pieces Of A Woman", starring Vanessa Kirby, Shia LaBeouf, and Ellen Burstyn.

As mentioned above we do throw in a couple of mini reviews for good measure.

That's the show, ladies and gentlemen.

We'd like to thank any new listener that may be listening to this episode and we hope you stick around to see what 2021 will bring for HON. We definitely have a few things we're cooking up, so stay tuned for that. We'll be back next week with another banger for you. Believe that. Until then we hope you have a fantastic week and a beautiful start to your 2021.

We'll talk to you soon! Peace!

Bonus Episode: Patreon Ep 19 - Wonder Woman 1984 Review (SPOILERS) Dec 28, 2020

Show notes

Welcome to a bonus episode of Heroes Of Noise. As a little holiday gift to the HON Community we're making this Patreon episode available to the public. In other words, there's no paywall so feel free to enjoy it. If you like what you hear, please consider supporting Heroes of Noise on Patreon. Now then, let's get to those show notes: Hey it's Dan. Welcome to Episode 19! On the last Patreon episode of 2020 we bring in friends of the show Melissa Sloter from Wild Pretty Things podcast as well as Spoiler Steve from Scene-it Cast to review "Wonder Woman 1984", which dropped on Christmas Day in theaters as well as HBO Max. Before we get down to business we spend a little time catching up on the recent holiday, I talk about how I almost burned my house down on Christmas night, Steve and Melissa do the MGK discussion that had to happen, as Steve has gone at him pretty hard in the past. No offense to my partner in crime, but I do love that Melissa gives it right back to him when he goes at MGK. Spoiler Steve is also a favorite when it comes to debating movies with us and that's why we love having him on. All in all... great guests. WARNING: When we get to WW84, we don't break it down scene by scene, but you should be aware that we do spoil the shit out of it. So if you haven't watched it yet it's probably best to skip this one until you do. Mostly because of spoilers, but opinions fly like gnats on this episode so we'd hate to be responsible for any bias we may cause. 2021 is here and we now have our bearings. Let's do things right this year so that we can once again celebrate socially with no threat or stigma. It's time for an HON meetup and there's no way that's happening until we get back to normal. It's been said close to 180 times, but now more than ever we need to be good to ourselves and be good to the people around you. Happy New Year *Podcaster's note: This is the last episode we'll be recording with Zencastr. I wasn't very happy with the sound on this one and the lag was terrible so I had to edit more than I cared to. In fact, I've never been happy with Zencastr but it did come in handy at times. Going forward we'll be utilizing Riverside FM, which is a similar, but better quality podcasting platform whenever we're joined by guests. It will also give us the capability to live stream and take calls -ins from our listeners. More on that later.

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 141

We almost didn't do a show this week but then quickly realized that we this would be the last show of 2020. So we decided to keep it loose this week and lean in to the holiday. Here's a little of what's to come this episode:

Youtube First Reaction Videos Are Bullshit
The Underestimation of Jamie Foxx
We learn what "Yuletide" means (We really didn't know)
Dan, Will and Jada
A little Christmas Improv

There's plenty more, but these are freaking show notes. Listen the the damn episode already.

We wrap things up with a review of The Mandalorian Season 2 through the eyes of Steve.

WARNING: IT'S ADORABLE AND FILLED WITH SPOILERS

This has been a rough year, ladies and gentlemen . We made some friends, lost some friends, lived through a pandemic, adjusted to a new normal, saw how ugly people can be, and got a new Administration. That's enough for one year, wouldn't you say?

We at Heroes of Noise wish you the merriest of Christmases and the happiest of new years. We also wish you good health and prosperity for 2021. Thank you so much for your continued love and support. We couldn't do this without you. We'll talk to you in the new year.

Peace (On Earth)

🤘🏽✊🏾

As for you, 2020… You can fuck right off into history.

Sound Of Metal, The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, and Freaky Dec 19, 2020

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 140

This week we start off with a health update as Dan is currently sick, in quarantine, and forced to stay home from work until Covid-19 results come back. Don't worry, you can't catch the Rona listening to podcasts. We push on though and before we get into reviews, these are some of the topics discussed at the top of the show:

To John C Reily or Not John C Reily
80s Tv Trivia from Steve
Byron Allen's Got BANK and we discuss his and Wayne Brady's Net worth
The Next step for HON is obviously the weed business, right?

(There's more, but just listen)

When we get to Noise News, it goes down like this:

CBS All Access Original Series The Stand drops on Thursday (1st episode free to stream)
Sebastian Stan and Lily James to play Tommy Lee and Pam Anderson
Paul McCartney, Rick Rubin Teaming On 6-Part Docuseries; First Time Original Masters Have Left Abbey Road Studio
Steve-O and Johnny Knoxville hospitalized after treadmill accident on set of Jackass 4

For the last part of the show we bring the reviews of what we both watched this week:

First up, we give our thought on the Amazon Prime Original Original "Sound Of Metal" starring Riz Ahmed and Olivia Cooke
Next up we gush and spend a great deal of time talking about the new HBO Max documentary "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" .
We close the show with a review of the New Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton horror comedy "Freaky" which is available on VOD everywhere you stream movies.

That, as they say is the show. We hope you enjoy and put your fingers to the keys or your mouth to the receiver to let us know what you thought about it.

Fear not, Patrons. 2 Episodes are getting recorded in the next few days. Thanks again for your patience with us as December has been extremely hard for us to get together.

We'll talk soon. Be good, be safe, and Happy Holidays!
