The Correlation of Post-Covid Syndrome to Brain Dysfunction Nov 01, 2022
    Show notes

    Show Summary:

"Without pharmaceuticals and surgery, we use external methods to rehab an injured brain. And I reached that point where we see semblances of post-concussion syndrome with these long COVID cases. It mimics brain injury."

Covid-19 is originally known as a respiratory disease. And since it broke out, there have been growing studies and anecdotal evidence from the ground that it also hurts the other body systems.

Experiencing its devastating effects months after her recovery, Juanique has hypothesized that Covid-19 acts like the Epstein-Barr virus, where it awakens other dormant viruses in your body. As a related result, it has caused mood disorders and absurd neurological symptoms that unaware doctors would dismiss with a prescription of antibiotics or antidepressants.

Holding a niche practice, Dr. Kenneth Oliver is a chiropractic neurologist who rehabilitates brain injuries and neurological dysfunction through external modalities such as electromagnetic impulses, radiofrequency, and low-level laser therapies. He will also shed light on the latest findings in post-Covid cases based on medical journals and his daily patient consultations.

If health has worsened since you or a loved one had Covid, you can't miss Episode 43 of the Gutsy Health Podcast!

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Patients with unexplainable issues tend to point to their history of being stricken with Covid, having an adverse reaction to its vaccine, or a combination of both.
    • Doctors have learned and are willing to share more about this destructive virus, but censorship of public information has also been challenging.
    • Covid causes a loss of microbiome diversity which hastens the spread of spike protein in other body systems.

    Show Highlights:

PubMed is a MeSH database that provides access to medical abstracts

    Dr. Oliver 08:40

    • After typing 'Covid AND Neurological Dysfunctions', it pulled up 5000 articles that are accessible to learn about these two topics together.

Journal finding of how Covid can critically cause nervous system dysfunction

    Dr. Oliver 19:05

    • The biggest issue with the virus is that it destroys the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB), which leads to susceptibility to brain inflammation.

A compromised BBB can severely affect random parts of the brain

    Dr: Oliver 33:06

    • A BBB Permeability Test identifies the exact areas of damage, which can come in various neuropsychiatric forms such as ADHD, cognitive deficits, suicidality, seizures, epilepsy, and psychosis.

The Science of Food Cravings Oct 25, 2022
    Show notes

    Show Summary:

"Everybody wants to change. But we can’t because we are all addicts. Our drug is sugar and we have food that gives pleasure to our brain, so we can’t let go of it.”

We all desire to be healthier. And when we actually attempt to, our usual resolutions would be to cut down on anything ‘unhealthy’ that we can think of. Sipping coffee less in the morning and taking out carbs in the evening. This path becomes an uphill battle that only backfires on us.

Food addiction has always been an in-demand subject. Even though we have listened to and agreed to all the experts’ advice, we just can’t seem to get past these cravings. It’s like answering the call of nature, and we have no logical control over it.

Gutsy Health Podcast Co-host, Gina Worful, is a schooled dietitian that struggled with her own food cravings. Thanks to her experience, she is the best resource to unpack the secret of how to satisfy it while sticking to your goal of being healthy.

Satiate your cravings and know the science behind them. Listen to Episode 42 of the Gutsy Health Podcast!

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • It’s not a question of your willpower. Cravings are a sign of imbalance that can’t be pushed away by thoughts but rather, by having the right chemistry in your body.
    • Stress hormones trigger the adrenaline and nervous system to be overactive and dysregulated. This induces our brain to have cravings because it’s in survival mode.
    • When you start learning and loving your body, it naturally comes back into alignment and in optimal health.

    Show Highlights:

Fight or flight has become a baseline mode in today’s society

    Juanique 07:01

    • Most of us are stressed yet unaware of it. Being anxious and alert all the time becomes so normalized in our modern pace, and this has contributed to our uncontrollable cravings.

The relationship of feel-good hormones to our food addictions

    Gina 11:2

    • Sugar, carbohydrates, and salty food give us temporary serotonin and dopamine boosts. Consuming protein and other minerals sustainably satiate these cravings because it replenishes our deficiencies.

Change your palate by nipping it in the bud

    Gina 16:18

    • Gradually eating healthier is a waste of time. Because our palates have become used to processed food, continuing to eat it would make it taste better compared to cleaner options.

Extreme dependence on food versus enjoying it in moderation

    Juanique 22:11

    • Instead of giving up your favorite food entirely, it can still bring joy and happiness when enjoyed in bite-size pieces.

Conquering cravings likened to surfing waves

    Gina 28:04

    • Like slow waves starting to build, it’d be better to lean forward and embrace your cravings because it helps us be attuned to our bodies so we can give them what it needs.

How Love Holds Space for Healing Oct 18, 2022
    Show notes

    Show Summary:

"The heart is infinite. When going through a heavy, traumatic experience, it is easy to shut down your heart and mourn. But since the universe is infinite, you can always try to remind yourself that when one door closes, another one might open. There’s always opportunity for growth and movement.”

“Healing happens” is a phrase we use to remind people that their bodies are capable of miraculous things when given the right tools. But so are hearts. They heal too when given the right tools, circumstance and people. It just takes the right person to come and touch hearts and bring it back to life again.

But for all the listeners meeting him for the first time, he is here to share their soul-binding story of opening up, being consumed by love and being a huge catalyst of healing for the Roney family after Tristin’s passing.

Ryan Grover is the CEO, founder and owner of HelpCloud. Before meeting Juanique, he was twice divorced, once a vegan, and has been living a full, athletic life. He also enjoys precious times with his son and longed for a family that he can completely take care of.

Explore the heart’s infiniteness and how it can hold so much space for more love by listening to Episode 41 of the Gutsy Health Podcast!

    Juanique 09:21

    • Her journey to opening and leaning into her lover's energy, after being in a warrior/magician state of battling cancer for so long.

Easing the newfound relationship to the kids

    Ryan Grover 01:25:38

    • After a careful period of consideration and transition, the kids have shown remarkable signs of healing by showing a goofier side of themselves

Mastering Blood Sugar to Master Weight Loss and Hormones Oct 11, 2022
    Show notes

"The pillar of fixing hormones is balancing your blood sugar before you do anything. Even with supplements, if fluctuating blood sugar is not addressed, you will fail because you’re constantly inflamed and not fueling your cells properly.”

Confusing and outdated health advice crowds the industry today. Too much emphasis has been given on limiting carbs, calorie counts and diets. Most certified dietitians also do not understand metabolism, or how fast our bodies burn fat or manufacture sugar into energy that we could actually use.

Stabilizing blood sugar is THE topic that we all ought to talk about. Aside from the dreaded diabetes, did you know the high correlation of unchecked glucose with cardiovascular disease, cancer and other maladies? Also, not to mention that insulin resistance is a huge factor behind stubborn belly fat, excessive food cravings, brain fog, low energy and inflammation, just to name a few.

Gutsy Health Podcast Co-host, Gina Worful, is a blood sugar expert. Imparting knowledge like our bodies’ ‘manual’, her upcoming ‘Mastering Blood Sugar’ workshop empowers us to love and take care of ourselves much better.

Overhaul your life through blood sugar regulation. Listen to Episode 40 of the Gutsy Health Podcast!

    Enroll here:

    Mastering Your Blood Sugar Workshop

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Our ancestors only had five tablespoons of sugar in a year. Average consumption today is about 125 pounds of sugar annually.
    • Avoiding carbohydrates is a myth. There are other factors at play for blood sugar stability.
    • Fix fluctuating blood sugar first to heal a host of other related diseases such as thyroid, hormones and immunity issues.

    Show Highlights:

Her roadmap to understanding her own body

    Gina 03:23

    • Experiencing ironic health struggles as a dietitian, she discovered gap-filling information that her licensed education never gave her access to.

Eating healthy doesn’t equate to a balanced blood sugar

    Juanique 11:12

    • Our bio-individualities must be considered in meal planning because of our unique responses to glucose.

    Microbiomes and blood sugar control

    Juanique 14:16

    • Having diverse microbiomes in our system is important because it directly affects the way our body handles glucose.

Insulin is the key that opens the doorway to cells

    Juanique 22:39

    • When there is too much sugar in the bloodstream, the insulin receptors become tired and defective in accepting fuel for the cells.

    Reversing blood sugar damages

    Gina 25:06

    • Berberine and Fenugreek are common herbal supplements that improve insulin resistance which replenishes the energy that our cells need. Small hourly movements also help lower glucose levels.

Rising Above the Root Cause of PCOS Oct 04, 2022
    Show notes

Show Summary: "If women aren’t ovulating, isn’t it counterintuitive to put them on a pill that reinforces non-ovulation? When they think they’re on their menstrual cycle, it’s not a period but a chemically induced bleed by synthetic hormones.”

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the nastiest of all hormonal imbalances. Yet in the absence of ovary cysts, doctors would rule it out - even if some of its glaring symptoms like irregular periods, infertility, unwanted weight gain, acne, and chest and facial hair have already appeared.

And with the meteoric rise of crazy hormonal issues happening as of latter years, it’s easy for women to feel alienated and misunderstood. Pills have been a normal prescription to manage PCOS, but did you know that it disrupts your monthly ovulation cycle and what you’re only experiencing could be ‘fake bleed’?

Our ‘unicorn’ guest, Meg Richichi, is a rare PCOS expert who doesn’t only deal with its symptoms - she gets to the bottom of it. Her fascinating backstory of world travels gave her a balanced East and West perspective. Plus, her reveal on the basic cause of PCOS and how it’s mishandled by mainstream medicine is mind-blowing.

Let’s put an end to hormonal imbalances. It’s time to heal and understand PCOS by listening to Episode 39 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more!

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Elevated androgen is a hallmark symptom. Most receive diuretics that reduce testosterone but do not cure PCOS.
    • Women with PCOS are at higher-risk of estrogen-related cancers. And if unresolved, it also makes them susceptible to other illnesses.
    • Hormonal imbalance is a direct result of our bodies’ inability to flush out toxins in our system.

    Show Highlights:

How Hormones Affect Our Creativity Cycles

    Meg Richichi 12:49

    • When you start paying attention to your cycle, your sense of awareness, creativity and confidence increases. Every month, you have the beautiful opportunity to give birth to something in your life aside from a baby.

Cumulative Effect of Androgens and Chemical Exposures

    Meg Richichi 16:54

    • In the womb, excessive androgen from mothers is passed on through the umbilical cord. And as we grow older, the toxicity buildup from chemicals in our environment blocks the healthy lymphatic flow and drainage in our bodies.

The Connection of Detoxification to Balanced Hormones

    Juanique 20:03

    • Parasites harbor heavy metals and plastics. Women who have done cleansing protocols unexpectedly heal their endometriosis and begin to have normal eight-day cycles.

The Red Flags of Infertility and Rough Pregnancy

    Juanique 25:23

    • Women who struggle getting pregnant or experience extreme morning sickness are most likely fighting with their hormones and are not getting the support that their bodies need.

Decoding the Mysterious Lyme Disease Sep 27, 2022
    Show notes

    Show Summary:
"Imagine your body as a tree trunk with termites burrowing and leaving a bunch of holes. Lyme loves to attack neural tissues that keep you stuck in a PTSD loop - even if the ‘termites’ aren’t alive anymore.”

Lyme is a mysterious illness that not all people know of. Showing up in symptoms like migraine, anxiety, acidic stomach and other unidentified malaise, your body feels at its worst.

But, once doctors check, they find nothing serious and suggest that it's your imagination. Is it? Or did they miss identifying Lyme disease as the true and hidden culprit?

Join our guest, Hailey Scarbrough, as she takes us through her holistic victory with Lyme disease. She tells her story about finding her trusted medical practitioners. Not to mention, the long-lasting protocol that doesn't have to include antibiotics.

Indeed, knowledge is power. Let’s decode Lyme disease by listening to Episode 38 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more!

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Lyme is an expensive disease to diagnose. The average patient spends tens of thousands of dollars for therapy and antibiotics.
    • Post-traumatic stress disorder is a common effect of Lyme disease even after treatment.
    • The gut and immune system may play a role in why some people are symptomatic and asymptomatic.

    Show Highlights:

    Cortisol worsens Lyme

    Juanique 11:19

    • As Lyme deteriorates your body, the stress hormone cortisol exacerbates it. From anxiety to depression, it turns into a PTSD feedback loop that turns your body against you.

Anyone can have Lyme yet be asymptomatic

    Juanique 13:48

    • Many of us could have Lyme yet be asymptomatic. To get better, the soil of the body, like your microbiome, must be a place where Lyme can't thrive.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy as a dual purpose treatment

    Juanique 28:38

    • Lyme is an anaerobic bacteria that thrive in non-oxygenated environments. Thus, a hyperbaric chamber saturates your body with megadoses of oxygen. It kills off the parasites, while hastening your healing process.

The Value of Self-Awareness Thru Psychedelics and Core Energy Sep 20, 2022
    Show notes

    Show Summary:

“Renewal starts with the mind. When you understand your Core Energy and the impact of psychedelics for healing, awareness means half of the battle is won already."

‘Energy’ is indeed a meaningful word. A term loosely used around, it can connote different meanings that may pertain to our health, vibrancy, and even abstract ideas connected to the spiritual or ‘woowoo’ realm.

Though the Gutsy Health platform leans more towards science-based advice and findings, we are open to discuss new concepts that push the boundaries of our long-held beliefs, as long as it helps us reach our peak performance.

Our guest, Lana Pribic, is a certified life coach and podcast host of Modern Psychedelics. She lets us into the two-fold topics of Core Energy and Psychedelics. Having used psychedelics recreationally, she experienced what it’s like to have barriers removed and be connected to her higher self. Later on, she studied at the prestigious Institute for Professional Excellence and Coaching (iPEC) to learn their trademarked Core Energy program.

In this episode, you’ll understand why psychedelics can be helpful, and be aware of your own level within the hierarchy of the seven (7) types of Core Energy.

Is psychedelics something you’d try for self-awareness? Find out and listen to Episode 37 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more.

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Core Energy can either be one of two things. Catabolic is destructive, tearing down, and works against you. While Anabolic is supportive, constructive, fuelling and expansive.
    • Discovered on the same year as the atomic bomb, psychedelics has become the atomic bomb for the mind. It allows you to see the world in a completely different way.
    • Psychedelics are nonspecific amplifiers. They bring to the forefront your suppressions while tearing down your mind’s defense mechanisms.

    Show Highlights:

    Origin of Core Energy

    Lana Pribic 3:21

    • Core energy lies as the root of our thoughts, belief systems, and our actions. It’s a default programming from everything as we grew up. Like in a cell’s nucleus - that’s where it all begins.

    Beliefs differentiated from Energy

    Lana Pribic 4:51

    • Beliefs are not core energy. Your core energy determines whether a set of beliefs are going to hold you back or move you forward.

50% of Change comes from Awareness

    Lana Pribic 16:56

    • When it comes to change, knowing is already 50% of the work. We can’t come to choice without awareness and it all starts in the head.

Makeover Your Metabolism for Weight Loss Sep 15, 2022
    Show notes

    Show Summary:

“Weight loss should be easy. Knowing your body's Metabolic Ecosystem allows you to burn fat, even while relaxing and eating the food that you want.

After following a rigid weight loss plan, it’s frustrating to see unsustainable results. Hour-long cardios? Check. Clean eating? Check. Reduced calories? Check. But how come we are not seeing any obvious progress?

Meet our guest, Megan Hansen, a ‘cool dietitian’ that helped 6,000 people drop the fat and find food freedom by repairing their metabolism. Having struggled with bulimia and packing on the pounds, she felt like a fraud. In her search for answers, she found out about the Metabolic Ecosystem platform that she's known for today.

In this episode, discover the six (6) interdependent factors that affect your metabolism rate - yet overlooked by most in the industry today.

Educate yourself and combat weight gain for good. Join us and listen to Episode 36 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more!

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Limiting calorie intake is a lie. Instead, a holistic approach on metabolism is the key behind permanent weight loss.
    • Controlling blood sugar gives you more flexibility in your diet. It supports our hunger and satiety hormones that influence our energy and cravings.
    • Stress and lack of sleep are major factors that affect and slow down your metabolism.

    Show Highlights:

    A balanced take on carbohydrates

    Megan Hansen 16:52

    • “I’m not anti-carbs in any way. I'm pro-eating carbohydrates with protein, fat and fiber that keep your blood sugar steady.”

    Burn calories even on downtime

    Megan Hansen 20:43

    • “So lean muscle tissue is the one thing that's going to use our basal metabolic rate. So if you want to increase the calories you're burning per day, at rest and doing nothing, put on some lean muscle tissue by lifting weights.”

    Consequences of sacrificing sleep

    Megan Hansen 32:43

    • “Sleep deprivation leads to eating anywhere from four to 500 extra calories a day, it affects our stress levels, the way that we're able to manage stress, and how much we live everyday.”

How To Expedite The Right Order of Healing Sep 06, 2022
    Show notes

Show Summary: "Outsourcing your health recovery to supplements or treatments, will rarely give you answers. To hasten healing, mindset and nutrition are intrinsic factors that you can control."

Health issues are inevitable and unfortunate events that we face. Coming in forms of brain fog, panic attacks, inflammations, or other chronic diseases, experiencing these can debilitate or slow us down from living our best lives.

And in our effort to bounce back, instead of focusing first on intrinsic, controllable factors such as our thoughts and food choices, most of us search for healing outside through popular supplements or undergoing treatments prescribed by a doctor.

If you’ve been listening to the Gutsy Health Podcast, you know by now that there’s a chronological order of recovery protocol that you must follow. Skipping this may spell the difference in achieving the breakthrough that you need.

In this episode, we’ll reveal why a sound mindset and proper nutrition are of utmost priority, and supplementation and treatment, even though helpful, fall to the bottom of that list.

Optimize and hasten the momentum of your self-healing. Join us and listen to Episode 35 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more!

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Follow the chronological order of protocol to expedite healing. First is the Mindset, second is Nutrition, Supplementation is third, and last is Treatment.

    • To recuperate, you should prioritize sleep and rest because that's when eighty percent of healing happens.

    • Inflamed bodies are like burning buildings, while Proper Nutrition is the big hose that kills the fire.

    Show Highlights:

Direct Effect of Mindset in Healing

    Juanique 10:29

    • If your mind is not in alignment with healing, it is going to trigger your body to be in a fight or flight response, which wears and tears your body and creates more disease and dysfunction.

Nutrition as the Primary Source for Healing

    Juanique 11:42

    • Nutrient-dense foods like vegetables, leafy greens, fruits, proteins, and healthy fats are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants - these are the big hoses that put out the fire.

Supplementation & Treatments as Support to Healing

    Juanique 15:17

    • Using the analogy of someone sick, they go to the doctor who prescribes supplementation. Did they talk to you about the big hose of nutrition in the first place? Why would you invest in a small hose of supplementation when the big hoses exist? You tend to outsource your power to supplements and treatments because it's easy, but invest in your nutrition first.

    Juanique 27:33

    • If you want to accelerate healing, that's when you incorporate treatments. When starting a healing protocol, most people ask, “How long does it take to heal?”. People get frustrated when they hear 6 to 12 months. if you want to make it a three-month process, you could speed up that timeline with treatments.

How Does Blue Light Affect Brain Health? Aug 23, 2022
    Show notes

Show Summary: “The best thing you can do for your mitochondria is to lessen the consumption of blue light sources, and utilize devices that decrease blue light. Watch the sunrise and sunset as it boosts your mitochondrial function.”

As we progressed in the dominance of the digital age, our gadgets such as smartphones, laptops, smart TVs, and many more had been prevalent in our lifestyle. It’s safe to say that they make our lives easier and it would be a lot harder to live without them.

But, are you protecting yourself from the harmful effects of blue and artificial lights that come from these devices? Not everyone knows why and how they affect our brain health.

And in this episode, we dive deep into the whys and hows of the relationship between blue light and our overall health - from the brain to skin, to our mental and physical health.

We are joined by Dhruvin Patel, an eye expert and founder and CEO of Ocushield, to discuss the ins and outs of blue lights, how to maintain eye health, and prevent blue light from harming our health.

Becoming the captain of your well-being doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re here to guide you throughout your self-healing journey. Join us and listen to Episode 34 of the Gutsy Health Podcast to learn more!

Get 20% discount when you buy Ocushield products using the code GUTSYHEALTH20

    Exceptional Highlights:

    • Blue light from screens affects the eyes; causing eye strain and fatigue, leading to headaches.
    • Artificial blue lights suppress the melatonin hormone, which affects the quality of sleep.

    Show Highlights:

What does blue light do biologically to our bodies?

    Dhruvin Patel 8:30

    • Our eyes are very smart; they can see lots of light sources so you want to reduce the flicker in lighting. Flicker rate is something called Hertz. Aim to use devices with a lesser flicker rate.

Why should the younger generation lessen their screen time?

    Dhruvin Patel 11:56

    • Children’s eye lenses don’t develop until they are teenagers, and the lens is an important natural filter for UV and blue light. Long-term exposure to blue light can eventually cause macular degeneration, which affects your central vision.

Get 20% discount when you buy Ocushield products using the code GUTSYHEALTH20

Two recommended steps to lessen the impact of blue light:

    Dhruvin Patel 13:15

    • The proximity of the device. Position your device or light source farther away from the eyes.
    • Turn down the brightness.
