    Good Times Great Movies

Every other Friday, Doug McCambridge and Jamie Lorello discuss a film from the 1980s. Some are films we haven’t seen since we were kids and offer a fresh perspective. Others are films we’ve never seen before but probably should have. Do they hold up? Are they classics? Or would these films just be better off having been lost to time?

    Episode 147: Ishtar (1987) Jan 08, 2021
    Show notes

We finally tackle one of the worst movies ever made as we take a supporter-request and talk about the Hoffman/Beatty vehicle, Ishatar. In this episode, neither host has any idea what's happening in the move but also admit to not knowing anything about late 80s international conflicts between nations. Doug's surprised that even Charles Grodin couldn't even save this film, Jamie draws parallels to Yentl and the two compare the music perfarmances to a magical night with Jeff Goldblum. Come shake your head and shrug your shoulders along with us as we discuss Ishtar.

Episode 146: Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) Dec 25, 2020
    Show notes

Merry Christmas eveyone! In this episode, Jamie wants to get to the bottom of why exactly Mr. and Mrs. Claus can't conceve, Doug comes off as an idiot by not knowing that Santa is basically the same as Saint and also comes off as kind of a weird monster when he basically condones the kidnapping of homeless children. Come along as we try so hard to navigate our way through a movie that tells the history of Santa, while also focussing on a disgruntled elf, a homeless boy, a neglected rich girl, a reindeer who is afraid of heights, a greedy toymaker, the Senate sub committee...Holy hell, there's a lot going on here! Celebrate the fat man (who does not like to be called fat) while listening to us discuss Santa Claus: The Movie.

    Episode 145: Yentl (1983) Dec 11, 2020
    Show notes

We're fully into the holiday season and chase Slysgiving with the Brarbara Streisand passion project Yentl to celebrate Hanukkah. On this episode, we discover Doug's refusal to swim in a 'piss pond', get some information about Jamie's old audition process, and try in all honesty to figure out what everyone who meets Yentl/Ansel thinks is actually going on there. Doug's movie tastes become increasingly complex, and he's angry about it as we continue our run of pretty fun movies (excluding Dune) with Yentl!

Episode 143: Hell Comes to Frogtown (1988) Nov 13, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode, Doug reveals his attraction to Ape-Women and dry ice, Jamie recommends watching a movie that doesn't exist, and the two of them continually refer to characters by the wrong names, all while critiquing Rowdy Roddy's physique and eating habits. And of course, how can we possibly watch a movie about a race of frog people without talk of Alex Jones! Strap on your chasitity belt, heat up a bowl of very chunky turtle/lizard soup and join us as we follow Sam Hell and the gang into Frogtown!

    Episode 142: A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) Oct 30, 2020
    Show notes

Doug and Jamie assume that Nancy's house must have been sold pre-furnished, that Grady must be a bed-wetter, could't believe that Meryl Streep got her start in a Nightmare movie, and assume that Clu Gulager mush have had quite the life as to not be phased by and exploding toaster and parakeet. Jamie thinks that cabana is Spanish for bathroom and she calls Doug a 'podcast slut'. Hang with us as we stuggle with this damn thermostat and laugh our way though A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge!

Jamie also doesn't understand how to eat a Jolly Rancher, Doug discovers the real reason why the police should be defunded and Jamie also assumes that anyone on trial for murder in Italy must be seranaded at least once...perhaps more if the trial draggs on. Come along and do your best to fake-play guitars and drum kits, eat rubber hand sandwiches slathered in ketchup and try and avoid a guitar-drill as we discuss the campy as hell, Slumber Party Massacre II!

Episode 139: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn (1982) Sep 18, 2020
    Show notes

We head back into the final frontier as we put a bow on our Summer of Sequels! In this episode Jamie and Doug talk extensively about Kirstie Alley's real eyebrows (just let them put the fake ones on), Jamie takes some time to explain the difference between a War and a Trek and Doug manages to tie a Star Trek movie to an episode of Full House. There's talk of the ship's masturbation chamber, terrible, terrible matte paintings, how they might get from here to whales & so much more nonsense. Sorry Trek fans, you're in for a rough ride. But please join us as we discuss Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khhhhaaaaaaaannnn!

    Episode 138: Staying Alive (1983) Sep 04, 2020
    Show notes

Jamie and John Travolta hope that all is well in 'Britland', maybe because of Brexit. Doug isn't sure exactly but he is very excited about sitting thought an entire broadway show at this end of this episode. But maily it's because he's curious about a show titled, Satan's Alley. But anyway, on this episode we discuss a movie where Penny from Dirty Dancing and Blossom's stepmom fight over a lean, mean, sweaty, mean, adorable, and mean, John Travolta. He hasn't learned his lesson from Saturday Night Feaver so we get the same movie again, but bad. Join us as we discuss Staying Alive!
