Episode 166: Episode 166: Poltergeist (1982) Oct 01, 2021

Show notes

It's time again for the spookiest month of the year and Doug's happy as anything. On this episode, Jamie doesn't want to hear a damn thing about Caroline in the City, Doug tries so hard to get that Zelda Rubenstein voice but it just comes out sounding like Dolly Parton, and we both kinda want to live in this Spielbergian/Hooper mashup suburbia. Take your kid's bike out to get some beer, stack your kitchen chairs on the table, and join us as we discuss a film that we can only imagine had parents at the time wondering just exactly what a movie needed to do to earn an 'R' rating, Poltergeist!
We begin the episode with an introduction from Felissa Rose and end with a Sleepaway Camp tune from Poltergeist OD! Check out his music and videos on YouTube.

Episode 165: Episode 165: The Black Cauldron (1985) Sep 17, 2021

Show notes

We cover our first Disney animated film and it sure is something. On this episode, Jamie wonders just how much cleavage a witch has to show to get your animated movie an 'R' rating, Doug doesn't understand why the elderly don't just line up to commit suicide, and we both marvel at how a 75 minute animated film with a very simple story can be so wildly confusing. Join us as we discuss a film that represents a real low point in the Disney corporation juggernaut, The Black Cauldron!

Episode 164: Episode 164: Hider in the House (1989) Sep 03, 2021

Show notes

No guest to keep us on track or stop us from jumping all around in this movie, Jamie and Doug are too excited by Gary Busey to keep this train on the rails. In the episode, Jamie flirts with recommending infidelity, Doug has a real problem with Mimi Rogers' hair color, and we both decide that the murderous Busey is only slightly more troubling than their Phillies jacket-wearing neighbor. Join us as we discuss a film that nobody's heard of, but everyone should see, Hider in the House!

Show notes

Daisuke Beppu, the nicest person on the planet and owner of an amazing YouTube Channel stops by to convince Doug that the Star Trek universe is worth his time. While Jamie and Diasuke have an intelligent and emotional conversation about Spock's death, rebirth and growth (both physical and emotional), Doug continues his own search for Kirstie Alley. Join us as we discuss a film that takes alien races a bit more serious than Not of This Earth, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock!

Episode 162: Episode 162: Not of This Earth (1988) w/Jonny Numb of The Last Knock Aug 06, 2021

Show notes

Jonny Numb, one half of The Last Knock podcast asks Doug and Jamie to do him a solid and just look at a lot of naked ladies! Jamie isn't quite happy with the male love interest and imagines a movie where Traci Lords ends up with the reformed Jeremy, while this movie prompts Doug to watch both the 1957 original and the 1995 re-remake. Nope. it's not Humanoids from the Deep...even though it contains an extended scene from that film. And it's not Hollywood Boulevard...even though it contains an extended scene from that film as well. And while the opening credits might confuse you as to what Corman film you're about to see, trust us, It's Not of This Earth!

Episode 161: Episode 161: Body Double (1984) w/Steve Guntli of Ultra 64 Jul 23, 2021

Show notes

Steve Guntli, one half of Ultra 64 podcast brings Doug and Jamie their first DePalma of the podcast and boy, is this a wild ride! Jamie takes some time to create a new opening to the film (along with a sardine chant), Doug and Steve compare the main character to both Bill Maher and Andy Dick, and the word panties is said far too many times for anyone's comfort. Rip your rubber mask off, do a sexy dance and join us for our discussion of a film that uses rear projection more than any other film in this decade, Body Double!

Episode 160: Episode 160: Spellbinder (1988) w/Laura Cannon of Fatal Femmes Jul 09, 2021

Show notes

Laura Cannon, one half of Fatal Femmes mixes things up by exposing Doug and Jamie to a film neither had seen before. Is this movie sexy enough for Doug? Is it scary enough for Jamie? We learn about 'famous' LA artists of the late 80s, wonder why you would unwind with some basketball when you've got pretty severe back issues, and think that everyone should always listen to their receptionist/secretary when considering a new relationship. Join us for our discussion of a movie that begs the question, what do you focus on if you're into witchcraft AND karate...Spellbinder!

Episode 159: Road House (1989) w/Tony from Hack the Movies Jun 25, 2021

Show notes

Tony from Hack the Movies drops by to preach the gospel of Road House! Doug and Jamie may not be completely convinced though. For Doug, it has to do with the lack of sex in the film and for Jamie, well...maybe it just reminds her too much of her years as a bouncer in Tennessee. We discuss Cobra Commander, hungover doctors & a disappointed pervert who gets nothing but calls about a Buick! Join us for our discussion of a movie that's taken us far too long to get to, Road House!

Episode 157: Sixteen Candles (1984) May 28, 2021

Show notes

We celebrate the sixth anniversary of the show by talking about a pretty big film and asking all the right questions. What's the deal with Jake Ryan's parents, how much does the prom queen love the school showers, and can you just get an exchange student to come do manual labor for you in your retirement community? Strap on your headgreat and/or neck brace, toss that pizza on the turntable, pop a muscel relaxer or two, and join us for our discussion of the John Hughes film to feature the most cartoon sound effects, Sixteen Candles! It's been a while since we've come down on opposite sides of a film so this is a fun one.
