    Good Times Great Movies

Every other Friday, Doug McCambridge and Jamie Lorello discuss a film from the 1980s. Some are films we haven’t seen since we were kids and offer a fresh perspective. Others are films we’ve never seen before but probably should have. Do they hold up? Are they classics? Or would these films just be better off having been lost to time?

    Episode 137: Teen Wolf Too (1987) Aug 21, 2020
    Show notes

Doug remembers the long-forgotten fear of the Zombie episode of The Hogan Family and Jamie's caught up in those Dreamy Bateman eyes. But none of that can keep us from realizing that this is just a terrible movie. Why is this a sports movie? Why is Styles recast? Why is Styles even there? Why didn't they decide on an accent for the 'hot girl'? And again, why so much sports in a werewolf movie? Join us as we continue through the Summer of Sequels with Teen Wolf Too!

    Episode 136: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) Aug 07, 2020
    Show notes

The X-Games are super dumb but we have an idea to make them at least a bit better. We appreciate the progressive sexuality of this Mad Max film and how much it leans into the S&M scene. We discuss futuristic dog fashion, are confused by basic engineering of how you extract oil from the ground and spot an Amish Road Warrior. Also, Jamie looked in vain for Tina Turner for an hour and a half. We somehow talk more about Mel Gibson's questionable movie roles of the late 90's - early 2000's than the fact that he is just a trash pile of a human being. Join us as we continue through the Summer of Sequels with Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior!

    Episode 135: Short Circuit 2 (1988) Jul 24, 2020
    Show notes

A sequel that removes Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy (basically all the charm) so Doug and Jamie are stuck with Fischer Stevens and a robot devoid of humor and personality. Cynthia Gibb is given nothing to do but Doug and Jamie would watch a different film starring she and the cab driver, with whom she has the most chemistry. Fisher Stevens in brown face may strangely be one of the least offensive things about this movie. Just kidding, that's terrible even by 1988 standards. Episode 134: Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) Jul 10, 2020
    Show notes

Doug is mad! He's so mad at this movie that he even recommends a movie he doesn't like at the end of the episode. Jamie absolutely loves the Shit Sisters and tries clinging to that to help her get through this film. A confusing mix of gross and bland deaths, terrible acting, writing, directing and editing come together to create a shameful sequel to one of the best films we've covered on the podcast. If this entry into the Summer of Sequels didn't break us, nothing will. Join us for quite the ride as we break down Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers. We miss you so much Felissa Rose! Episode 133: The Karate Kid Part II (1986) Jun 27, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode, Doug is obsessed with the character of 'mailman', Jamie wants to start a movement #bringbackthenosehonk and adds a bit of penis to the tea ritual, and we both wonder what exactly has been happening to all of Chozen's shirts. Join us as we cover The Karate Kid Part II, the story of a Japanese girl and her messy bun.

    Episode 132: Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985) Jun 12, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode, Jamie reveals that she has a garbage man who may not actually be a garbage man, Doug hates The Departed slightly less than he hates Mark Wahlberg, and they realize that Patrick Swayze's character in Ghost must have been a huge fan of the second Police Academy film. Episode 131: Back to the Future (1985) May 29, 2020
    Show notes

We're five years into this podcast and decided to cover a movie that nearly everyone alive has seen for a change. On this episode, Doug's Doc Brown sounds like a pretty bad Bernie Sanders, while Jamie confuses 'Flubber' for 'flub' and 'Flubber' for 'blubber' and 'dolphin' for 'whale'. Join us as we cover a movie that challenges Sleepaway Camp for the best thing we've discussed in five years, Back to the Future!

    Episode 130: Forbidden World (1982) May 15, 2020
    Show notes

Who would have imagined a movie full of space monsters and nudity could be so dull? On this episode, Doug admits to having trouble following the movie but was kinda into the soundtrack, while Jamie recommends that listeners get naked and do a Web MD search. For what? She never explains. Join us as we cover a movie that wants to be Alien but only has one hallway to work with.

    Episode 129: My Mom's a Werewolf (1989) May 01, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode, Jamie waxes poetic regarding the glut of werewolf movies in the 80s and Doug supports this housewife's affair and the two of them question John Saxon's career choices...and there's a chance they're giving it more thought than he did. Join us as we cover a movie that probably shouldn't have taken us nearly 130 episodes to get to.

    Episode 128: Sweet Liberty (1986) Apr 17, 2020
    Show notes

On this episode, Doug realizes that both Indiana Jones and Alan Alda gave him a false impression of what the life of a college professor would be and Jamie's a little frightened that Alda might show up at her door with salad ingredients...she knows exactly what's on his mind if that happens. Listen to their thoughts on the patron-suggested episode, Sweet Liberty! Please provide a rating and review wherever you get the episode. Thank you!
