Stay ConnectedGen X, This is Why is a podcast that re-examines the sometimes bizarre and often scarring media from our shared childhood. Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal enemies, are your hosts. Our first stop is Walnut Grove as we take a fresh look at our favorite frontier family (as if we can name another), the Ingalls. There is some seriously weird sh*t in this show that answers a lot of questions…

In season 9, episode 3, Welcome to Olsenville, Harriet comes across some bearer bonds while cleaning Lars Hanson’s house- I guess we are ignoring the fact that this was the blind school and it had completely burned to the ground. The bonds put the people of Walnut Grove in her debt, and Harriet uses this to her advantage. When she puts Nels up to run for mayor, Almonzo decides to run against him. It goes as you’d suspect. We meet some older randos waiting for death, including the dude from the American Gothic painting.

Charles is gone, Ma is nowhere to be found, there are randos making out in the little house, a wanna be Carl’s JR has slipped past us, Laura is giving up her job, it’s a different show everyone! In this season opener, Charles has returned to town to gather the rest of the families’ things, while Laura throws him a small going away party (which is much more than anyone else got). Sarah Carter, the newest resident of WG, starts a newspaper, and we meet Etta Plum, the new teacher.

In Season 8, Episode 22, He was Only 12 Part 2, Charles loses his d*mn mind. Pa refuses to accept James’ open-eyed coma and decides to drag him ala Bran Stark to the mountain where he builds an altar and morphs into James Brolin. An old man, who is clearly God, shows up and in a flash of blue light, heals James. No, you’re not hallucinating, you read that correctly.

In Season 8, Episode 21, He was Only 12 Part One, James receives some cold, hard cash from Uncle Jed. Upon Charles' insistence, he tags along to Sleepy Eye where he can earn half an interest point more at the bank. Things take a turn, however, and poor little Jason Bateman gets Little Housed when he is shot during a bank robbery in progress. Pa starts up a posse with the help of Ride or Die and they chase the robbers to a tumbleweed town named Sulfur, where things end in gun play. Enjoy this reused Bonanza script!
