Stay ConnectedGen X, This is Why is a podcast that re-examines the sometimes bizarre and often scarring media from our shared childhood. Jennie and Amye, sisters and sometimes mortal enemies, are your hosts. Our first stop is Walnut Grove as we take a fresh look at our favorite frontier family (as if we can name another), the Ingalls. There is some seriously weird sh*t in this show that answers a lot of questions…

You spoke, we listened. Join us as we revisit Little House on the Prairie S2:EP17 Troublemaker This one had it all! After Miss Beadle refuses to beat the crap out of the 40-year-old kids in her class, they bring in a stern d**kbag who is more than happy to exercise corporal punishment on no other than sweet little Laura. Pa gets wind of this and goes to bananatown, all while Nellie pulls the strings.

You spoke, we listened. Join us as we revisit Little House on the Prairie S1:EP2 Country Girls
Well it’s so lovely to be back in season one where Pa was stunning and we could hate on Mary with ease. This is the episode that establishes all of the “beefs,” Laura and Nellie, Harriet and Caroline, and Pa versus anyone in WG who looks at Caroline sideways. Laura and Mary struggle to fit into their new school where Nellie calls them country girls, even though every single kid in the school is a country person. There is an egg fight between Caroline and Harriet, and Pa is at peak Pa.

In season 9, episode 21, Hello and Goodbye, a very annoying writer, Mr. Montique, arrives in town to…oh wait, we have no idea why. After shunning Harriet, he moves into the Wilder boarding house where Manly is running around destroying precious antiques. Matthew’s dad returns to town to yank him away from Mr. Edwards because he can never have anything nice. This is the last episode! We made it!!

In season 9, episode 20, May I Have This Dance? Willie is finally graduating! Just in time to get his AARP card and sign up for the Senior discount at his local grocery store. Just as he’s settling into retirement, we meet Rachel Brown, a rando who he’s already in love with and ready to marry. Harriet disapproves, of course. Amye has Covid, Jennie considers getting a Masters Degree in Wizardry, and we rant for quite a while about higher education.

In season 9, episode 19, For the Love of Blanche, Michael Landon gets his final revenge on Victor French when he gives him the stupidest storyline ever. Blanche is an orangutan. That’s the joke. Amye is so mad she’s channeling Kody Brown, Jennie is again raving over Baby Rose’s performance, and we remind everyone that our grandmother was not an opioid addict.

In season 9, episode 17, A Child with No Name, Victor French makes his directorial debut! Laura and Manly face a devastating loss and finally realize Doc Baker’s ocular pat downs haven’t been working. After Laura slanders Doc, he mopes around Low-Energy Jennie style. We work to decipher some of Edward’s expressions, Jennie tells us about some wild cathedral she visited, and once again Baby Rose steals the show AND gets packed in ice!!!

In season 9, episode 16, Home Again Part 2, Doc finally figures out someone is stealing his morphine and they quickly figure out it’s Albert after he acts erratic for a week and then punches Etta Plumb. Charles takes him out to Edwards’ shack to dry out. Doc rubs his gums with morphine, Laura offers to help and quickly rescinds when Albert starts puking up milk, and Albert and Charles go for a midnight run through the woods set to circus music. We do a Gram vocab quiz, and end with a Macbeth fight.

In season 9, episode 16: Home Again Part 1, We get a glimpse of Charles working his retail job. Nothing seems to be going well for them in the city, as Albert is thieving and getting arrested and Caroline is nowhere to be found. After Albert is caught stealing again, he and Charles head back to Walnut Grove where Charles’ plan to ditch Albert off on Manly and Laura is thwarted by a morphine addiction. Amye is sick, so please don’t mind her scratchy voice!

Amye's sick and under Doc Baker's care, so we don't know what's going to happen to her.
We will not be releasing a new episode over the holidays, so please enjoy S1:EP15: Xmas on Plum Creek, which we originally covered on Patreon in 2020.
Our episode starts with Jennie throwing a fit about Bunny, so enjoy that. It’s Christmas time and the Ingalls steal our family tradition of “cheapest Christmas ever.” At Oleson’s Black Friday sale, Caroline falls in love with a stove, and everyone buys some yardage. Mary shows off her fancy sewing and Charles masquerades as a Wheelwright. Jennie’s index card almost turns her Vegan. This is the moment in which Laura cements her place as best daughter ever. Carrie stares at a bunch of various objects and Nels once again gets a little too cozy with a child.

In season 9, episode 11: Alden’s Dilemma, a HOT new preacher shows up and causes a stir amongst the women of Walnut Grove. Manly and Faux Pa (John Carter) head into the bowels of humanity, a real hell on earth: San Francisco. Mr. Edwards is made a fool when he assumes the new preacher is hooking up with Laura and Sarah Carter. We have a new episode of House Hunters in the middle of this, and Jennie regales us with a tale of an actual California murder.
