FTN Episode 363 – Will Death Guard Make a Nasty Splash? Dec 12, 2020
    Show notes

FTN small squareDeath Guard have been delayed, as we all know, but there are plenty of things to talk about. We talk about the Disgustingly Resilient change and leads us to some feedback from Adam. Later in the episode we talk about keeping our skills sharp while not being able to play as many games.

    Hey folks,

Disgustingly Resilient has been a Death Guard staple for a while now. Is the change from what we knew as a Feel No Pain to damage reduction an actual nerf? In some ways yes, it is. You don’t get the ability to ignore Mortal Wounds any more. In other ways it absolutely isn’t. You’re going to be able to shrug off a lot of what people are packing these days to deal with the presence of Space Marines.

When the tournament meta develops d2 weapons will be everywhere. Death Guard don’t care about them at all as that means you’ll need double the shots to make up for this DR change.

Still, this tee’d up a pretty spot on bit of feedback from Adam C on the show. Does the reduction in feel no pain across the game give too much of an advantage to the armies that still have it?

The truth is we don’t know how prevalent in the game it will be since we know we have plenty of additional codexes to see as this edition develops.

As long as it exists for the ‘mega factions’ in the game where appropriate maybe it will balance itself out? I’m hopeful. Orks and Tyranids need a LOT of help this edition and I hope they get it.

FTN Episode 362 – Blood Angels, Oh How I Love Thee Dec 04, 2020
    Show notes

FTN small squareThis episode is basically a love note to the Blood Angels. The Codex Supplement is going to make a huge impact on this edition. Towards the end of 8th the Blood Angels got really good. This is a continuation of that and if this is your army, you are going to be happy.

    Hey all,

In this episode we talk all Blood Angels all the time. Stephen Box from Vanguard Tactics joins us early in the show to run down his initial thoughts on this great supplement.

We can all breath a sigh of relief knowing that the Sanguinary Guard are simply amazing still. They do everything you want them to do and their point values don’t break the bank. They suffer a bit from not being Primaris Marines but that is there the downside stops.

You can make a case for basically everything in the Elite slot making it a very crowded option. This is a good thing as it is great for collecting lots of different units and giving you a host of different things you can rotate through on the table keeping your experience fresh.

The Troops slot benefits a TON from the new Assault Intercessors and if you’re a long time BA player and you haven’t picked these up yet, you’re gonna want them.

You’re going to hear a lot of people making comparisons to what is ‘best’ in this book and take heart – different opinions can both be right. Mephiston is good. The Librarian Dreadnought is good. Death Company are good. Inceptors are good.. The list goes on and on. In the early days of this book do yourself a favor and just have fun with it. I know I will.

FTN Episode 361 – Deathwatch and Space Wolf Army List Ideas – Which is Stronger? Nov 28, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Don’t worry.. The Blood Angels episode is coming soon. I hope to have a special surprise next week as well. Until then let us know what you think about these Deathwatch and Space Wolves army list ideas. They Marines have it all and these Chapters bring even more to the party.

    Hey folks,

We make good on our claim that the Deathwatch are just beginning to bloom and will continue to evolve and add to the meta for a long time to come. They have the unique ability (at this time) to have more than 3 Outriders, Eradicators and Eliminators in a squad.

If those three units had any downsides at all it was the low model count. No more! Ha, this is a nice little bonus for Deathwatch players and I have no doubt this will make an impact in their games.

Towards the beginning of the show we have a very special vendor spotlight from a friend of the show and Kickstarter creator. Gary Krieger is a super cool guy and I hope you check out their latest Kickstarter here.

I’ve heard a lot of blow back from Space Wolves players and I honestly feel like this is just because the book is ‘different.’ It not only challenges how lists were made recently it changes a lot about what people expect from Space Wolves lore. I don’t think this is a bad thing.

It wasn’t to this extreme but people felt very similarly when Thunder Wolves first hit the scene and if they weren’t so crazy powerful they wouldn’t have been so quickly adopted. We’re in the same boat now but since things aren’t as extreme power wise it may take a bit before people ease into this new paradigm.

FTN Episode 360 – From the North The Space Wolves Come Forth Nov 21, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Space Wolves are back in a big way. If this is any indication of the future of Marine supplements I am very hopeful for the BA, DA and the rest. A lot off the fun and unique qualities of the Space Wolves come out in the base data sheets and the Stratagems. What do you think?

    Hey all,

I think the Space Wolves have everything they need to create dynamic army lists and there is a lot of depth to this book. If you want to shoot you can shoot, if you want to assault you can assault. Do you like Psychic Powers? They have you there too.

We don’t all feel the same ways on the show though.. What do you think?

Personally I think long term Space Wolves players are really going to enjoy their collection. There seems to be ways to build either a take all comers style list or to really focus down and load up on one particular play style or another.

The codex seems to go a slight different way than maybe we expected with the index published a few weeks ago but it’s not bad, it’s just different. We should see a big return of Thunder Wolf Calvary and Wolf Lords on the Thunder Wolves too.

We may see the special characters sidelined in this book in favor of people making their own custom HQs. That’s not bad either since now for the first time ever the Space Wolves have Successor Chapters. Are you kidding me?!

FTN Episode 359 – Will You Serve In the Deathwatch? Nov 15, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We crack open the Deathwatch codex this week and talk about a few of the changes and a few things you may see on the tabletop. In the back of the show we talk a little lore. It’s interesting that the Deathwatch have become a fully fledged codex backed up by the full book of Marine things.

    Hey everyone,

The Corvus Blackstar is a divisive unit. Most people either love it or hate it with no in between just due to the way it looks. I’m not the biggest fan but Red points out on the show that it looks very similar to the crafts from Aliens the movie. I can see that and I bet this is part of the reasons that folks have the feelings they do.

The rules for it have never been too bad but it’s just funny how people barely ever talk about the rules, just how it looks.

We do spend most of the show talking about the Deathwatch and it does seem like these guys have gone from a ‘fringe ally unit’ to a fully functional army. The modeling opportunities are there and now the rules stack up. I bet we see folks expanding their collections or dipping into this faction now that they get access to everything from the Marines.

Paul talks a little bit about his painting journey with the Silent King. Pics are up on twitter @warmaster_tpm and on Instagram as fightswithdice

Going into the holidays can be a stressful time and even more stressful with what the world is going through right now. We hope you’re keeping safe and sane out there. Feel free to hit us up in chat if you want some good hobby vibes.

FTN Episode 358 – What Forge World Units are Coming Back o the Table? Nov 07, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We kick this episode off talking about a few of the Forge World units you’ll see making their way back to the tabletop. Some old favorites and maybe some old ones we hope to see. In the second half of the show we talk about how Ork and Necron lore overlap. You just might learn something!

    Hey all,

I personally own a Fire Raptor Gun Ship and used it towards the early days of 8th. It then fell off the radar as the edition progressed and it got a huge point spike from the first big FAQ we saw. Now.. It just might be back.

Heavy Bolters are no joke and this bad boy can pump out a deluge of Damage 2 fire. It a huge target and people will want to shoot at it just because it looks so cool. Is it worth putting in your list knowing that AND having to spend a Command Point to included in your list? I guess that’s the question.

The Marines likely have enough threats to where you could cause some target confusion for your opponent or you just invest more Command Points in this thing to keep it alive. I do think it’s worth it and look forward to getting it on the table a few more times. We also talk about Hornets at the top of the show. Man oh man, I hope to pick off many a Space Marine with these.

After the break we talk about the Orks and their relationship to the Brain Boyz. We throw in an honorable mention to the Krorks as well. This is a bit of lore I was weak on and it was cool to do a little internet research.

    Are Orks your favorite Mushroom?

FTN Episode 357 – Player Spotlight Interview and We Lament About FW Legends Oct 31, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

In the first part of the show Paul is joined by PleasantKenobi who has recently gotten back into Warhammer but is an avid Magic the Gathering content producer and player. I had a great time chatting with him and am a fan of his content as well. In part two of the show Red, Adam and Paul go on a jaunty random ride. Buckle up!

    Hey folks,

It’s really cool to find people out there in the world who are into similar things that you are. It’s kind of the reason we do this thing! We have so many shared experiences with likes with people we’ve never met before. I continue to love that about this hobby and gaming hobbies in general. This is the first time I’ve spoken with PleasantKenobi but we were able to jump right into the conversation because of this great hobby of ours. I hope you enjoy it as well.

He’s not afraid to share his opinion and for me, it’s nice to hear from someone jumping both feet into Warhammer 40k and really seeing what it’s all about with fresh eyes. If you are not already familiar with his content please check Vince out here.

In part 2 of the show the boys and I basically roam around a half hour of super charged hobby content. By super charged I mean randomness that basically rolled right out of our brains and into our faces.

We talk about the meaning of Legend rules from Forge World as the primary topic but it gets us on to a brief discussion about the Siege of Terra novels and how are favorite characters are portrayed.

We talk about GW models and Counts As forces and we manage to slip in a must have hobby tip for people who love Contemptor Dreads. I know I do.. I’m anxiously awaiting to see how they are treated in the Forge World Compendium.

FTN Episode 356 – Interview With Games Workshop and the Future of Events Oct 24, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Mike Brandt from Games Workshop joins me this week to talk about the current and future state of official AND independent events. Obviously with the way the world is right not we can’t get too deep into specifics because there are so many unknowns. It is nice to see that it’s still a focus and it makes me even more hopeful about things to come. Then.. me and da boyz talk about Ork Kommandos.

    Hey all,

I am very pleased to welcome Mike Brandt back to the show this week and this time he’s part of Games Workshop! We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to have him on.

We talk about what we hope and dream about events going forward. We talk a little bit about the challenges they are up against now. We also speak to the fact that independent events are still going to be encouraged and possibly thrive even more when we actually get to gather in large numbers again.

After that segment Adam, Red and Paul talk about the practical application of Ork Kommandos. These units got a stealth upgrade just by the nature of this edition. Get it.. Stealth Upgrade? For Kommandos.. I’ll see myself out.

For just a handful of points you can all but guarantee yourself a few points doing a game. Kommands are incredibly themey for Orks as well. The finecast kit may not be easy to come by but thankfully it’s pretty easy to cobble these guys together from the Ork plastic kits as well.

I am incredibly jazzed to continue to riff on Orks for the entire month. We’ll be doing it again next week talking about the Battle for Armageddon and the Beast Arises saga. You don’t want to miss this.

FTN Episode 355 – How Many Squig Types Can You Name? They’re All Cuties Oct 17, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We do a little better job with our Orktober coverage this week and kick off the show with a few facts about Squigs. These are from the early days of 40k. We continue on to talk about Necrons. Also.. bonus question before the show begins. Can you guess Ghaz’s original Wargear?

    Hey folks,

Sometimes we don’t do the best job remembering that we are lore junkies too. We get deep into the ancient text this week and go all the way back to Ere We Go! Orktober is in full effect this month.

I found a cool video where a youtuber created an Ork fort out of old boxes and his scrap bits. I’ll stick the link in the bottom of this post. It’s pretty rad and I like how his style made it seem attainable and photo ready all at the same time.

We talk a little Silent King in this episode too. This amazing model has some fabulous lore behind and while we do chat just a tad bit about the rules we focus more on how he plugs into the overall Necron story.

Adam suggests that every character in 40k who can’t be alive right now be killed off in the stories. Okay, he doesn’t do that but we do sort of make fun of him and twist his words to suggest so. What do you think about that? Do you prefer the characters live on or have an unknown conclusion so you can play it out in games or does you mind need that concrete conclusion?

I played my first game this weekend with the new Blood Angel FAQ supplement where we lose a ton of stuff. Man.. It’s different. We’ll catch up with that on the next episode.

FTN Episode 354 – Is the New Necron Codex Good? Bonus Orktober Coverage too! Oct 10, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Red takes center stage this episode as we take a serious look at what this week’s new Necron codex brings to this faction. This is the most compelling the Necrons have ever been. Tons more options, tons more flavor, but is it good? No matter what the answer to that question is it is a whole new life for Necron players and we’re excited.

    Hey everyone,

I know there is a ton of Marine coverage out there and we will certainly get to those but we couldn’t resist going right for the Necons to see if they have what it takes to become the new super bad faction in the Warhammer Universe.

The Necrons absolutely have some heavy hitters with the Nightbringer being a super star. Super Star God that is… See what i did? This guy has all the rules you need to get a ton of play out of this dude and if you’re a long time collector and have him on your shelf already then you will be incredibly happy.

Necron Warriors will make a serious come back as well. There are some fairly subtle new faction traits that help the warriors control the momentum of the game with some really relevant shooting. Death by 1000 cuts is what the Warriors will excel at. You’ll never regret taking these as long as you master their movement tricks.

The Necrons may suffer from not enough units having the Core keyword. We don’t talk about this on the show but I want to put it out there as warning. When you’re building your lists make sure the synergies are not overly reliant on you needing this.

After the break we kick off our Orktober coverage. We talk about taking Battle Wagons and Trukks to keep yourself alive in this deadly edition. Next week we’re going to focus on obscure Ork lore. Weird.. I know.. it’s time to get Narrative.

There is something amazingly cool coming with the hobby segment very soon. More to come.. watch this space!!
