FTN Episode 353 – Chaos Can Beat Space Marines – Will You Serve the Dark Gods? Sep 26, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

Chaos is good but you have to work for it. Sort of fitting for the succor of the dark gods right? It looks all simple at first and then you find yourself staying up all night painting new units! TJ Lannigan joins the regular cast today to talk about his favorite subject – Chaos…

    Hey folks,

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Strong bad guys makes for an exciting game. Chaos are one of the major evil super factions in this game and it’s so nice to hear there is still life in this faction.

We talk about what’s been working for TJ and get pretty deep in the weeds on Command Point strategies and synergies. Thanks for indulging us while we take these strolls through the super combos.

I mention up top that Chaos needs a little work to be ‘good’ and it does. We’re just starting to realize how the landscape of the game is changing and that evolution is busting open the door to what lists are viable. I’m a big believer in playing what you want to play but sometimes we have to show our friends that the old boss is still the new boss and play some heavy hitting stuff.

I was especially happy to hear that the Great Unclean One was making an appearance on the table top again. I absolutely love this glorious model and look forward to painting up a few more Nurgle squads in the near future.

In the second part of the show we round out the Chaos talk and then jump to a hobby segment where we talk about the dreaded Mold Lines. They creep up when you least suspect it all the time. The time to address them is when you see it. It may be painful to scrape down a surface that’s already been painted but you’ll always feel better once you’ve fixed it. Send us some pics!

Well crap.. I already told you about the hobby segment that normally goes in this space. I’ll be on an episode of Lorehammer coming up soon. It’s a blast to talk to those guys and I’m very thankful to be invited to their broadcast.

FTN Episode 352 – Is Warhammer 40k Being Rocked to the Core?! Sep 19, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We see a HUGE change coming down the pike for Warhammer 40k in the form of what or who Characters can buff on the table top. Is this really a big deal though? In the cases of the characters buffing themselves, I think it is. For the other stuff in the army? Maybe not.

    Hey all,

It’s always pretty exciting when we hear about sweeping changes. The idea that Characters may be further limited in what they can extend the sweet auras we’ve come to rely on is no exception.

We talk about what this change may actually impact. The biggest loss to me is the Daemon Prince. I guess the DP is ‘too good’ as it stands now and maybe this is a good change? I don’t know yet. I know any sort of change is both fun and terrorizing if it’s happening to you.

This will be an interesting debate as we challenge what Characters we consider good going forward. For a few I think it will be business as usual. We don’t take things like Phobos Lts or Overlords because of what they do to themselves anyway. I think we do rely on them to buff other Characters but from what it looks like – that is right out!

Does this help the game be more user/new player friendly? I don’t know. I think changes like this should be focused on that sort of outcome. That’s a topic for another show.

After the break we talk about how cool it would be see more 80s action icons make there way into the Catachan line up.

In the hobby segment we try to stick on the topic of how to repair damaged decals but we wander around a bit but with the hobby that’s cool too! I’ll save you a few minutes there – you can paint over the decals if you find the right color to match. Ha!

FTN Episode 351 – Are 40k Tanks Realistic? We Ask An Expert Sep 11, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

It turns out we have a resident expert on Tanks and we’ve never asked him about them until now! Come listen to a world of tanks conversation. On this episode we showcase three contributors to the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation too. Come check us out on the NOVA Open Twitch channel this weekend as we host their Virtual Lounge Final Hours Event!

    Hey folks,

This weekend we are helping host the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation Virtual Lounge. We’ll be live on Twitch talking about the amazing things they have up for raffle this year and it will be chock full of live commentary from Adam and Paul and a host of guest appearance coming to us via video.

In the first segment of the show we thought we were going to give a few predictions for the Games Workshop preview but we ended up getting super nerdy about tanks.

I am delighted talk about the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation on this episode too. This is an extremely worth while cause and this year we’re doing something special – we’re hosting their Virtual Lounge. While we can’t be at the NOVA Open all together we can bring some fun stuff to the comfort of your own home.

We are joined by three extremely special guests in the middle of this episode – We speak with Brent Amberger from Goobertown Hobbies, Oscar Lars from Oscar Lars Painting and Duncan Rhodes from the Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy. These wonderful painters and content creators have raffles up for grabs right now. I’d be proud to own anything these guys have worked on.

After the artist break we come back and give a little prediction on what we’ll see from the Necron reveal. It’s always fun to put our finger in the air and see how close we get to the actual releases.

FTN Episode 350 – Top 9 Space Marine Killers – Hot or Not? Sep 04, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

The Warhammer Community Page recently published an article running down their top 9 Space Marine killers? Did they get it right? We run down the list and provide our own comments. What do you think?

    Hey all

Articles like this published on the Warhammer Community site are fun. It’s fun to disagree about our nerd stuff sometimes and ‘what beats Marines’ is something we’re all still trying to figure out. There are a few questionable things on this list. We provide a few alternatives.

Did we get it right? Did they get it more right than us? Ha!

I am delighted talk about the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation on this episode. This is an extremely worth while cause and this year we’re doing something special – we’re hosting their Virtual Lounge. While we can’t be at the NOVA Open all together we can bring some fun stuff to the comfort of your own home.

Please please please head on over to their site and pick up a few raffle tickets if you can. We’d also like it if you can join us for the live stream and pick up a few more raffle tickets there as well if you can. This organization is supporting charities that are near and dear to my heart. If it is within your means please toss a few bucks their way. You’re giving to a great cause and you might come away with a gem for your collection.

In the second half of the show we continue to run down the controversial (not really) list. We dovetail what would be our number 9 pick into an impressive rant on the Sisters of Battle. Gah.. I Really want to start this army. The finishing move segment is about someone else talking about color theory. The documentary we speak about is called
EPIC Fantasy Painting in Oils Part 1 and is available for free right now on Amazon prime.

FTN Episode 349 – 6 Faction Run Down – We Cover Almost Everything in 40k Aug 29, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

I didn’t count but we cover lots of stuff this episode. We have a hearty jaunt around the universe and talk about Chaos, GSC, Guard, Tau, Eldar and Blood Angels. I knew you were expecting the Blood Angels. It’s a mixed bag but this is a 40k chat you’d get while hanging out at a game store. We’re happy to share it with you.

    Hey hey

This is a mixed bag of a show but I love these. We keep things conversational as our style and in this episode I think we translate one of those conversations you’d get from a game store. Since those are getting a little harder to find we’re incredibly happy to share it. Please join in the comments.

In the last part of the first half Adam gets to live his best life and rant for a few minutes on Tau. He’s got a lot to share and packs it all in with true Adam C style.

We discuss a few ways to get cheap damage two weapons into your army. These are going to be needed more than ever as soon as those space marine wound changes come down the pipe. It’s hard to believe that we’re actually talking about the first born marines again but it’s also translated over to the Chaos half. This is awesome.

This may be me being over fatalistic but I would expect some point changes on the way for the first born but strangely I wouldn’t expect it for Chaos. They seem to be ‘where they need to be’ IF they all get the two wound treatment. It’s nice for us to think that the game was truly balanced before but the fact is no one was taking regular Chaos marines because they just weren’t good enough. With two wounds maybe they are. Let’s hope!

In the last half of the show I can’t take all the Tau talk and bust back into the conversation to talk about Blood Angels. If you picked up 24 Sanguinary Guard before then you’re still in a great spot. the weapon options may change but thankfully that kit comes with a lot of bits.

FTN Episode 348 – Shadow Iron and Broken Realms Preview Predictions and Reactions Aug 22, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

The first part of the show we lay down our predictions and wish lists about the preview GW released today. The second part of the show is recorded directly after the preview aired and we share our open thoughts. Are you excited for what’s coming down the pipe?

    Hey all,

We kick of the show recorded earlier in the week giving our predictions about what we think the preview was going to be. We weren’t completely wrong! We thought you folks might enjoy theory crafting and I’m interested to hear if you might have been thinking the same thing.

The big 40k take away from the preview is the new Necron elite choice with 6 blasters. 6 sexy sexy blasters.

The big question is will his rules meet the hype? Can he really destroy whole units at a time? I hope so. Sometimes the rules don’t quite hit the mark but we have faith!

There are a ton of Necromunda things going up for preorder today and more coming down revealed in this preview. I love Necromunda and have a Goliath gang myself. But even if you don’t… This just means some sweet bits have entered the fray for your 40k armies.

We close out talking about the might Aelf factions in Simgar. They almost have enough to form Captain Planet. All kidding aside these are beautiful models. This preview wasn’t completely centered around 40k but it was really fun to watch and we’re looking forward to the next one.

FTN Episode 347 – Will You Survive When Double FAQs Attack? Aug 15, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We address the FAQ and re-FAQ we saw this week from Warhammer 40k. Adam, Red and Paul make some bold predictions about how we think the game’s action moments will shift in 9th. Ricky is on the show too.. kinda. In the middle of the episode we check in with Stephen Box from Vanguard Tactics.

    Hey all,

A lot can happen in a week for Warhammer fans. We saw an FAQ and then another FAQ about the same rules we just got rules for. I think we expect things to evolve but this had us doing a double take. Literally, we we did this episode 2-3 times

In the middle of the show we’re joined by Stephen Box. Please check him out if you aren’t familiar with his work already. We focus the conversation on how to tackle secondaries in 9th edition.

We come back after the break in the future! I say that because we recorded the first part of the show much earlier in the week and due to some difficulties outside of our control we had to come back to it. Hopefully it’s seamless on your side and we really appreciate you sticking with us.

We’re looking to take deeper dives in the Xenos factions. Hit us up if you have a few suggestions on stuff you’d like us to cover.

I mention this in the first part of the show but soon we’re going to be flipping a switch to convert the feed to something a little more robust on our side. You should see absolutely no difference on your side but if a week or so goes by and you don’t see a show… come looking for us here to re-sub. Thanks for sticking with us!

FTN Episode 346 – Are Xenos Factions Poised to Dominate 9th? Aug 08, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

This show contains 99% less Imperium than most leading Podcasts. We focus on the Xenos factions in this show. We skate right past the Tau threat and speak more about Drukari in the first part of the show and come back after the break to speak about Orks. We round the show out speaking about Kitbashing and assembling Push Fit models. Let’s do it!

    Hello,

The Taunar Supremacy suit is making another big splash right out of the gate in this edition. There are some murmurs behind the scenes that maybe this thing was mispointed. It’s so hard to tell with FW units these days. They are either super good or just kinda ‘eh’ competitive wise. If you stick with hobbying for yourself you can never go wrong but if a unit is ‘too good to be true’ and you’re buying it just to win games then make sure and pump the breaks to be okay with whatever you are setting yourself up for.

Archon Skari joins us this episode to speak about what’s working for him with Drukari. Unsurprisingly it is vehicle spam but it is kind of neat to know there is an alternative to Grotesques and the Cult of Flesh out there.

Thanks for indulging us with the Tyranid talk last week. This week we tip our toe into Orks as well. Each faction is very difficult to completely cover in a single episode so we’re trying to spread the love around a bit. Hopefully you find something to think about in the discussion.

More deep dives are coming, in one form or another. The hobby section this week is about Kitbashing and Push Fit models. The push fits have a tendency to not give you the tightest seals when you’re gluing them together. We’ve got one solution you can try.

I mention this in the first part of the show but soon we’re going to be flipping a switch to convert the feed to something a little more robust on our side. You should see absolutely no difference on your side but if a week or so goes by and you don’t see a show… come looking for us here to re-sub. Thanks for sticking with us!

FTN Episode 345 – Do You Need Psychic Defense in 9th? Aug 01, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

We start the show talking about Psychic Defense and is it worth investing in right now in 9th? Some armies come with it almost automatically. If you aren’t one of the lucky ones then what do you do? The second half of the show we talk about Tyranids and Drukari.

    Hey fols,

Grey Knights are poised to be a powerhouse army. We also believe Magnus is ready to live on the table top. Where does that leave armies with little to no innate psychic defense? We try to dive as deep as we can and it leads to a fabulous discussion about real world tactics.

If you’re an army without the choice of taking any defense, well.. hopefully you make up for it in another phase of the game. This may be a new edition but several things remain the same – if you can’t compete in every phase make sure you double up in at least one other phase of the game.

The second half of the show we kick off with Tyranids. We get a lot of flack every time we talk about Nids and I don’t blame you. No one, so far, has cracked the Tyranid code but we try. We’re tying hard and we hope you like the discussion around Tyranid Warriors. Point for point they look to be stacking up really well against Troop sections from other armies. When in doubt though, take a fleet of Genestealers.

We start to run out of time but we also touch on Drukari. By all accounts these guys got hit HARD with the points bat. A lot of the ‘efficiency’ has dried up and we toss around a few options on list building. What’s working for you?

Next episode we’re bringing on an expert to help show us the way but this teaser discussion should serve as a nice primer getting us ready for that.

FTN Episode 344 – Chaos Space Marines in 9th Edition – How to be a Heretic Jul 25, 2020
    Show notes

    FTN small square

TJ Lanigan joins us this week to spit loving bile about Chaos Space Marines. We speak specifically about Death Guard in the beginning of the show and transition to Thousand Sons after the break. This should is 99% chaos. Really like 99.8% Chaos. Listening will give you Heresy.

    Hey all,

The point changes in 9th have everyone scratching their heads. What to take? What is the best? Is my list even playable?! Do I need to paint new figures?

Take what you like. The best is a moving target. Your list is still playable but you’ll have to maybe leave out a unit or two. You don’t ‘need’ to paint new figures but it might be fun.

I suggest starting with chaos spawn.. We go over the reasons why in the show but things like Chaos Defilers, Rhinos and Spawn may make a huge comeback. Now with the new edition in our hands we’re going to realize the full impact of Psychic Awakening.

Old Chaos is dead but just like the gibbering masses Chaos is reborn and if you’re a longtime collector you may get to bring some of your old models off the shelf. Those Pox Walkers may come in handy again for objective camping too.

Vehicles in general are getting a lot of attention maybe because they have had the most rules tweaks in #new40k? Maybe so. Chaos has some of the best dual purpose vehicles in the game. They get access to powerful Daemon Engines and a lot of the same tools their less heretical cousins do too.
