Hopefully some of of you will have made it down to the excellent day-long podcast festival ‘Podstock’ at the BFI, with a stellar line up of live shows and goodness from start to end. If you didn’t, here’s your chance to catch up on the fun, where the Films To Be Buried With podcast closing out the day’s entertainment in full on grand style! Brett is joined by superstar actor and all round lovely dude Will Poulter, as they get down to the topics of life, death and film, all intercut with some awesome anecdotes and wisdom from Will and general good times had by all. This is basically the entire show, with a few small edits for audio (as, obviously, you can’t see the stage on this podcast - so some things wouldn’t have made a lot of sense without the visuals!), so please, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy this packed show and get to know Will Poulter even better than you did before! No, it is the not the Reverend Al Green, but the very hilarious Alistair, whom Brett has been down with since a good long while ago. So you can expect some good old fashioned dizzy good times from the pair as they get deep into the whole existential mess of cinema and life, with some equally good old fashioned chatter and banter in between. Beginning on the entirely relatable note of hard times at the local cinema - mainly fuelled by members of the public engaging in very non-cinema appropriate behaviour, which progresses into general airing of grievances, we move onto the food chain, aliens and monsters, some sea talk regarding how bloody terrifying it is, PG certificate vs 12, and his hatred of “charming” or “slick” films. Some great goodness here, as Stu goes very deep into it all… Nostalgia, his love of a good ‘timeloop’ film, how sleepdriving needs a good campaign demonising it (quite right), watching horror films too young (a common theme on this podcast), being on the more emotional side of his family, good old fashioned pirate VHS tapes, his love of the ‘flow’ zone and how greatness can be achieved within, being calm in a crisis but falling apart shortly thereafter and - yes indeed - Kung Fu Panda and lessons learned from it. Aisling is absolute podcast gold, and you know she holds it down on any given podcast so it’s a great chance to get into some depth on her film choices here to reveal even more angles. She’s not afraid to get into the woods about the rough stuff either so be prepared to enjoy the dark and the light right here, from her fearless approach to death having talked about it openly from a young age, to her preference over the TV box-set to films (which is why the other alternative title could be ‘TV Box-Sets To Be Buried With’) and her psychological evaluation of this preference, multi tasking while film watching, early and painful date memories, being ace at impressions but not getting the quotes right, how men love to quote - especially Simpsons (very true), how tough it is to act scared or specifically to act scared about something that’s not there, being horrified out of her mind and rightly so by a certain film which doesn’t need publicity here, her early days in a sketch show but having to develop her comic knowledge as she went along, and just a whole ton more - you know it’s a goody, and she and Brett get along lovely so enjoy this one! You surely will!

As funny as it is very moving, this episode has everything you would want in an episode, from the hilarious to the genuinely tear-jerking. Brett and Jayde go in deep on here and don’t take any mercy, as they go through this whole mortality and cinema roller coaster with expert precision and confidence, and come out the other end with a tale to tell and a knowing look that tells it all. From Jayde’s awkwardness as a kid and finding solace in film, to having film in common with her brother who has an entirely different profession, the 11 o’ clock number and exactly what that is, a very moving moment regarding her sister which is heavy but in a very therapeutic way, being a fan of love, controversy over Labyrinth (did I mention it was a roller coaster?), her love of dance and OH so much more besides. You know what it is. Films To Be Buried With goddammit. Get you some and ENJOY!

Jack Whitehall! Yes indeed. Brett’s been mates with Jack for a long while now, starting out in comedy circles around the same time and blazing the open mic circuit leaving a trail of smoke and ash behind them. This right here is the perfect chance to find out how Jack’s life has branched out ever since those younger, more innocent days and how he went from parka to poetry with consummate ease, his love of Disney and Robin Hood (and tights, by proxy), he and Brett sewing seeds of a future football film or series (that would be amazing and I hope they make good on that), his rise to full stardom through comedy and acting which led to his current high watermark of acting alongside The Rock, and some fine crying on plane talk. Crying on a plane while watching a film is known as “AALS” by the way, in case you’re pondering - or “altitude adjusted lachrymosity syndrome”. Whip that one out next time at yer pub quiz eh? So relax, throw on a pair of tights (it’s what Jack would have wanted yo to do), and enjoy these two getting their chat on about movies and all things besides.
