The tragedy and comedy parts are balanced out perfectly and expertly, and Cariad is a trained pair of hands on these subjects as you will have witnessed on her own ‘Griefcast’ podcast, where guests are invited to openly discuss grief and the wide world within. So here in this episode, along with a HUGE amount of film chatter, you can expect to hear about her honesty and approach to self-care with her show, the evolution of her own grief through the show, good old fashioned small talk and the art of, being married to a film maker, theories on death, her obsessive Star Wars viewing as a child, resigning from any future horror film fanclubs through watching The Shining, more crying after having kids, crying on cue versus ugly crying, the bullshit of the stages of grief, freedom to laugh at women being gross on screen and how the history of the UK isn’t often taught in as great detail as it could. A nice and giddy episode as Brett and Ed join up deep into their respective runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, high off insomnia and crepes, and down for some good time fun and entertainment. It’s a bundle of fun for certain but do be warned, there are some elements where some heavy films are referenced - so with that in mind, be prepared for some potentially tough ground in there… ALSO - there are spoilers for Hereditary so watch out for that when they start going in… I’ll make a note below on times. As well as the usual fun and good time chat you have come to expect and deserve, Brett goes in nice and detailed with Ola as they go in on EVERYTHING… So much to unpack… So sit back and enjoy this one as they tear apart all manner of subjects including - from the very start - reading one’s accolades out loud and the difference of US and UK hosts in that regard, how film watching is a difficult task being a new dad (a tale as old as time), blagging his way through mafia film synopses, his preparation for adulthood by his mum showing him some heavy going film selections, enjoying the idea of people hanging out in sitcoms and not wanting real-life hangouts to end (think Kramer in Seinfeld), watching films in the US and romanticising the experience, keeping in touch with his Nigerian heritage again via his mum, and Nollywood! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to 'Films To Be Buried With' with Brett Goldstein! Enjoy this week’s special guest, the fantastic acting and comedy superstar that is KERRY GODLIMAN!

Much fun to be had as Brett catches up Kerry (Brett’s on-screen wife in Derek among other roles), and discovers a whole lot about her and her wicked and weird movie selections which range all across the boards. A ton of ground covered as always, as the two get down to some fun and interesting subject matter (and subject natter) including the nuance between bulletpoints, beating Ali Wong to the punch by doing standup while pregnant, words of wisdom about not exposing kids to harsh films early (right on!), using kids as an excuse and the techniques therein, film nights with her folks, how she tends to steer clear of revisiting already watched films, an interesting horror film theory, committing to crying at films in front of the kids, “angrysad”, her wonderful deconstruction of a failed Ken Loach audition, a Christmas cinema experience in Chiang Mai and male and female friendships. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to 'Films To Be Buried With' with Brett Goldstein! BONUS EPISODE TIME is upon you as a treat for being an awesome and highly appreciated listener - here’s a special from up at the Edinburgh Fringe with Brett and good friend David Earl aka Brian Gittins!

The often referenced man himself, Brian Gittins, joins Brett in a rare one-on-one podcast in Brett’s comedy cottage, where the two sit very close to one another (Brett sitting like Michael Parkinson in full interview mode) and get deep into movie talk. From the outset, Brian might appear a little foggy but oh good heavens does that change as the episode goes on… It turns out he’s a proper film nerd, so enjoy Brett teasing all kinds of goodies out of the man, starting with good old fashioned death talk, then venturing into topics such as film locations, theories on why action stars were huge in the 80s (a very interesting theory indeed), bad films and cult bad films and how they obviously didn’t set out to be bad, film theft vs homage, and a ton of other fun.

Scroobius Pip - Films To Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein #4 Aug 01, 2018

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to 'Films To Be Buried With' with Brett Goldstein! Where some might say “three is the magic number”, or throw around tired phrases like “third time’s a charm”, THIS podcast does not deal with such nonsense and we go RIGHT on into episode 4 like it’s nothing. What a perfect treat of a guest this week too - yes indeed, it is the Distraction Pieces Network head honcho and label boss Mr Scroobius Pip!

Of course, on top of the music stuff, Pip is the goddamn man when it comes to podcasts - he heads the ‘Distraction Pieces Podcast’, which is well over the 12 million listens mark now and keeps on keeping on in much the same way. He is also very hooked up in the movie world, from being a fully fledged film nerd to running a film night at the Prince Charles Cinema to hatching into a proper actor! So you know you’re in good hands here with Brett and Pip - nothing but film geek goodness, which will go into how they got introduced to each other (their ‘meet-cute’ if you will), why Pip is referred to as Brett’s “frequent collaborator” on Wikipedia, end of year film lists, full on actor talk and process and all that good stuff, the weirdness of seeing the film you’re in for the first time, his own death scenario (in regard to Brett’s question which forms the basis of the podcast!) and his own outlook on life, death and the afterlife or lack thereof.
