A lovely episode, as Brett and Steen get into it like good old fashioned pally pals from the get go. It also helps that Steen is a very warm and friendly presence, which you will certainly enjoy throughout the episode! A great chance to get to know him, and most definitely to get to know his film favourites (and non-favourites), and hear about all of it, the whole story which includes his watching of many, many films on places (flying back and forth to Australia, see - you can cram in a ton), the resulting AALS (Altitude Adjusted Lachrimosity Syndrome - that is, crying easily at films on planes), his cricketing past which includes bowling out Alistair Cooke, his drinking sprees in those early cricketing days (ohh, those out of hand cricketers!), his very generous death scenario, skating accidents, how to make it through a horror film successfully, playing sports to playing theatre sports, the correct pronunciation of ‘Bowie’ (you may be surprised), and how films get invented and how tough that is. It’s got it all, people. You shan’t be disappointed.

Brett’s been taking care of business out in LA for a few months, and as such has managed to get some heavyweight podcasts in the armoury as you will have witnessed recently and will witness in the future, and this week it is the turn of the always fantastic Jamie! You may have seen her online, or indeed on TV/film, but if not this is a perfect primer and certainly grounds for making Jamie your new friend. She was recently a major part of the Pete Holmes / Judd Apatow HBO series ‘Crashing’, but have a peep at her IMDB for some further gold nuggets of goodness. Brett has only been working with Jamie for a good 7 weeks, but they are already fast friends which, as discussed, was sped along by seeing each others’ standup sets, so along with a myriad of excellent in depth film picks you can hear all about Jamie’s incredible fantasy death scenario, problematic mermaids and a whole world more. It comes as no surprise then that he is steeped in film knowledge and love, which shall become evident as he and Brett get into it all including his new film ‘The Perfection’ which is out now on Netflix, his writing of many pilots along the way and the mechanics of the pilot world, his crucial parts played in the development of Criminal Minds and Ugly Betty (to name a mere two), his involvement in Girls and collaborating closely with Lena Dunham, how Netflix will often do the publicity run after a film’s release and not before, his formative film education through his father who was a film buff but also need distractions, having real life physical effects on screen over CGI and a wealth of fun and scams working in a New York cinema. A whole ton of cinema jibber jabber as per usual which rides that undulating roller coaster of fun and good times to the proper grit and dirt of every day life and all that entails. You’ll hear about Tom’s relation to the afterlife since becoming a father, and how that inevitably altered his perspective on life and death, the big difference between gore and horror and how he gets along with such films and a wonderfully heartwarming tale of sleeping with his then girlfriend now wife at the BFI (actually literally sleeping, not in that way you filthy thing you).
