6 quick questions with Sandy Ronalds, Founder of NAT'V Basics (Part 2) Jun 20, 2023
    Show notes

This is Sandy Ronalds for Female Startup Club

Hi everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here, your host and hype girl! If you’ve just found us - we are SO grateful and happy to have you here. Every week we’re learning from some of the world’s most brilliant minds in business. Like the founder of NAT’V Basics, Sandy Ronalds. Sandy launched her biz in 2019 and in the last year alone sold 600,000 units from a few simple strategies. This story speaks to the power of spotting a clear gap in the market, proving out the concept, and going for it.

In this episode, Sandy shares her blueprint for making your business make business sense. In the dreaming phase, determine your why and know what your purpose is going to be for the brand through building brand pillars (these pillars have nothing to do with the end product but are about why you are joining us rather than another brand). In the building phase, consistently communicate the dreaming phase; it’s one thing knowing something yourself, and it’s another when it clearly comes across (pumping socials with the why’s and the purpose of the brand so you attract those who naturally align with your brand). In the day-to-day, Sandy still runs the nat’v basics IG intimately; she gets to know you and you get to know the real essence of the brand. It's key to remember here that your why doesn't have to be grandiose. It can be as simple as brightening someone's day, making them feel confident, or offering a sustainable solution.

Before we jump into today’s episode I want to quickly mention the Girl Code that we introduced a few episodes back! The gist is that it’s a very loose and casual deal where if you love what we’re doing over here and we bring you some value or a smile or a gem of insight, you take a tiny action every time you listen to one of our episodes. Whether that’s by leaving us a review, or sharing this episode on social media - basically anything that helps us reach more ears and keep growing. It’s a weird time right now and I’m in need of my hype girls. And to everyone who already does this - I appreciate you more than you know.

Let’s get into today’s episode, this is Sandy for Female Startup Club.

6 quick questions with Dr Clara Hurst, Founder of The Secret Skincare (Part 2) Jun 06, 2023
    Show notes

This is Dr. Clara Hurst for Female Startup Club

Hi everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here, your host and hype girl! If you’re a small business owner or an entrepreneur listening to this episode - we have an amazing entrepreneur joining us, Dr. Clara Hurst, who’s coming on to share the founding story of The Secret Skincare. We’re covering how she accidentally stumbled across a huge opportunity in the Australian market, why it’s rapidly growing across the country and Internationally, and some great insight into why they’ve had such success - and we’ve also got some real gems sprinkled in about like R&D tax credits and grants, and a tip on how to make sure you’ve got the best product on the market.

I love the part of this episode where Clare shares the tip: when you're in the process of building your dream business, find the closest thing to what you want and make it even better. Brilliant, right? Think about it for a moment. The world is full of amazing ideas but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement or a fresh twist. That’s where you come in. You have the power to take existing concepts and make them shine.

Let me break it down for you. You have this fantastic vision of a product or service that would revolutionize the market. You're bursting with excitement, but you might also feel a little overwhelmed. Where do you even begin? That’s where this gem comes in. At the beginning of every product launch Clara’s team digs deep into their shopping habits and collates ALL of the products that they love to chat about why they love the product, what sets this product apart & what they can do to improve it. They create a dream list of everything they love and then they make something better. By building upon an existing foundation, you're already entering a space where there's demand, and you can focus on delivering it in a way that resonates with your audience. Simple & genius, simply genius.

I’m just quickly going to mention the Girl code! If you missed it in our last few episodes I’m bringing in a very casual code that if you love our episodes and you learn something or you feel inspired or you get a smile across your face from hearing these stories, you take a tiny action that helps us in return. Something as small as a podcast review, a share on social media, or sending the episode to a friend. All these tiny actions are so critical to indie podcasters like me because it’s bloody tough out here and I need my hype girls to keep the wheels moving. To everyone who already does this - I see you and appreciate you more than you could possibly know.

6 quick questions with Aja Horsley, Founder of Drizzle Honey (Part 2) Jun 01, 2023
    Show notes

This is Aja Horsley for Female Startup Club

Hi everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here, your host and hype girl! If you’ve just found us - we are SO grateful and happy to have you here. Every week on the Female Startup Club podcast I interview some of the world’s most successful founders and women in business to understand their blueprint to success. And today you’re going to meet the founder of Drizzle honey, Aja Horsley. Drizzle started 5 years ago when Aja was working as an environmental scientist on an urban beekeeping project. She quickly realized there was a major issue in the honey industry. Not only with a lack of really quality honey, but bees were dying and beekeepers were unable to keep their businesses afloat.

Aja decided to start Drizzle to address all of these concerns and more. But of course all good stories have a plot twist, and Aja’s was pretty major. We talk through the forced pivot, how she landed a partnership with Queer Eye’s Tan Frances and why it took 5 years to nail down the path to proven playbook.

Before we jump into today’s episode I want to introduce something called the Girl Code! Which is what I’m dubbing the equivalent to a gentleman’s handshake. And the easiest way to explain a gentleman’s handshake - as we will now reference as the Girl Code; is that it’s like an informal handshake deal, unwritten but backed with integrity. If you’re listening to the show and you’re a fan of what I’m building at Female Startup Club, I’d love for you to take an action for me. Now of course, I won’t know whether you’ve done it or not - that’s the nature of the Girl Code - but it will make a huge difference to me and my team at Female Startup Club. Now an action could be, leaving the podcast a review, or sharing some of our content on Instagram or generally just helping to spread the word to your friends and colleagues. In all honesty, this year has been a bit tricky for us - we’re feeling the pinch of our usual partners and sponsors not having the same budgets they did these past few years and it means that as a small bootstrapped business, for our community to help take tiny actions that all add up In the future - is a big support. So I guess what I’m really asking is for you to be my hype girl, because I really need it at the moment. I want to keep bringing Female Startup Club to life - keep bringing you these episodes and to do that, I need hype girls that understand the Girl Code.

6 quick questions with Kristel de Groot, Founder of Your Super (Part 2) May 26, 2023
    Show notes

This is Kristel de Groot for Female Startup Club

Hi everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here, your host and hype girl! If you’re a small business owner or an entrepreneur listening to this episode - you probably know how hard it can be to generate revenue - it's bloody tough! you might have just started and made a few sales… you might have made a few thousand dollars in sales or maybe even a few hundred thousand - hell maybe you’ve made multi 7 figures in sales! Now imagine scaling your business to hitting $200 million in revenue. Imagine what that would look like from a supply chain point of view, a product development pov, the investment point of view.

That’s what Kristel de Groote did - all while she was in her 20’s. I know. Wild. Today’s episode is a reminder that when you stick it out for the long run, when you have a real purpose and drive to change the world - magical things can happen. Kristel built her company, Your Super, alongside her partner Michael in their early 20s after Michael battled cancer. They built it to $200m in revenue and then sold it to the Healing Company in 2022 for an undisclosed amount. This story starts with humble beginnings and it ends with so many brilliant learnings, I hope you love it as much as I do!

I particularly love the part of this episode where we talk about the bottleneck in your business. Your flailing SEO strategy? The manufacturer that just won’t get back to you in time? Problems with shipping delays? Practical complications can cause a headache, but when we get to the crux of it it’s you as a founder who determines the real cap. You are the bottleneck of your business. Some of the greatest growth that you will see happen in your company comes at times when you work on your personal growth. And by personal growth, I don’t mean having all the answers. It’s knowing that not knowing is your superpower. It’s knowing that you don’t need to know step 100 when you’re at step 1. It’s wholeheartedly finding peace with yourself when you are: on a seat at the table that you have built yourself.

And before we jump into today’s episode I want to quickly mention the Girl Code that we introduced in our recent episodes! The general gist is that it’s a very loose and casual deal where if you love Female Startup Club and what we’re doing over here, you take a tiny action every time you listen to one of our episodes. Whether that’s by leaving us a review, or sharing this episode on social media - basically anything that helps us reach more ears and keep growing. It’s a weird time right now and I’m in need of my hype girls. And to everyone who already does this - I appreciate you more than you know.
